LAS VEGAS -- The summer-league career of Francisco García might have come to a premature end Wednesday, when he was released from the team to deal with family matters.
The Kings' third-year swingman will not return, and the chances of a comeback in the fourth year would go against the norm in a session usually reserved for the youngest bunch or veterans seeking injury rehabilitation. Still, García finished leading the team in scoring (20.5 points per game) and with new coach Reggie Theus pleased.
"He's been a very vocal leader, a guy who keeps the guys focused and energized in practice and stuff like that," said Theus, who was García's assistant coach during his college days at Louisville. "It's been very positive, but for other guys who are trying to make the team and show themselves, it's another opportunity."
Not among that group are Keith Butler, a 7-foot-1 center from DePaul, or Major Wingate, a 6-10 center out of Tennessee. Both players were cut from the team earlier this week.
Brooks interviewing -- Former Kings assistant Scott Brooks seeks an assistant position after interviewing for head-coaching jobs with Sacramento and Seattle.
Brooks has spoken to Cleveland coach Mike Brown about joining the Cavaliers' staff, and also is in discussions with the SuperSonics about joining new head coach P.J. Carlesimo.
Agent movement -- García recently switched agents, leaving Jerome Lewis of Octagon to sign with power agent Aaron Goodwin. Kings forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim also is represented by Goodwin, as are Orlando's Dwight Howard and Seattle's Kevin Durant, to name a few.
Kings second-year guard Quincy Douby also changed representation, leaving Keith Glass to sign with Andy Miller, Kevin Garnett's agent.
Douby doubtful -- Douby sat out Wednesday's practice with lower back spasms and was unsure if he would be able to play today against New York.
