Melinda didn't disappoint me. What an awesome performance. I say she's going to be the top 3. Bookmark it.

This has been a really entertaining show, unlike last night when the guys almost put me to sleep.

They should just put LaKisha into the finals right now and let everyone else battle for the rest of the slots.

I must say WOW again. Lakisha's performance was AWESOME.

My first vote goes to Melinda. She not only has a tremendous voice, but a very genuine personality. Second, I would pick Lakisha. Man, what a voice. Sabrina and Stephanie have a good voice following Jordin, Haley and Gina.

As far as the rest of the ladies, I wasn't too impressed.

This was a very upbeat show. Very enjoyable. Looking forward to tomorrow night on who gets voted off.

I said it before Simon had a chance, but they might as well cancel the competition and give LaKisha the title. The girl has the best voice of all the females if not the whole competition. I'm still holding out hope for one or two of the guys to at least give the girl a run for her money. If not, she SHOULD have this thing in the bag

What a night!!!! Stars shone and the "candle" flickered out on many.

Lakisha-Best voice on Idol ever. What an instrument she has. That song is extremely tough to sing and she nailed it. She is a star.

Melinda-Very close 2nd. She also has one of the best voices ever on Idol. Could be more polished than Lakisha's. But there is just something extra special about Lakisha.

Gina-Strong voice. Good belt. Love that song. One of the only Celine songs I do like. She will stick around awhile.

Sabrina-Polished. Mature voice. Knows how to use it and control it. Great onstage. Seasoned already.

Stephanie-Love her old fashioned falsetto. Nice voice. Didn't blow me away, but I know she can.

Those 5 are shoeins for the top 6. The 6th spot is truly a question.

Jordan, Haley, and Nicole all have a shot. I personally hated Nicole. She shreaked and screamed and was completely affected the whole time, but she may get America's vote.

The rest of them are gone. ESPECIALLY Antonella. How the heck she ever made it through is still a mystery. I makes me sad for the young lady who got cut. Antonella was HORRIBLE.

I think you all have said it about Lakisha. But I would like to just break it down in order of appearance.

Stephanie Edwards
Very good. Nice and jazzy. Seems to be versitle - KEEPER

Amy Krebs
Very Tall, not very good. - PASS

Leslie Hunt
Forgettable, bad dancer, decent voice. - PASS

Sabrina Sloan
Very nice. Has attitude, and has a good voice. - KEEPER

Antonella Barba
 Terrible. She impressed me in her audition. Was smooth then. She is like fingernails on a chalkboard no - PASS

Jordin Sparks
Very, very young. In the mold of last year's Lisa Tucker. She is out to prove that she has attitude and she has done so....for one night - KEEPER

Nicole Tranquillo
I agree with Randy that she tried to do the Neo-Soul, Erykah Badu thing, when she may be out of her element. It did seem like a forced performance. With that said, she has a voice and for that she is.....KEEPER

Haley Scarnato
Not very good. Olivia Newton John clone. Come out into the '00's Haley - PASS

Melinda Doolittle
I like her.....but. She seems kind of old fashion. Kind of 70's like in alot of her vibe (dress, personality, and voice) I do not know if the young people can relate to her. However she is as sincerely humble as they come and she can sing - KEEPER

Alaina Alexander
I can't remeber what she sang  . - PASS

Gina Glocksen
I was a little disappointed, because I think she can compete. But Simon said that she could not hit the high notes, and she said i don't care I hit a note:eek:
She is going to be entertaining. Either a star or a car crash in the making - KEEPER

Lakisha Jones
THE WIN........I am going to resist the temptation of anointing her the winner because it is a long way to go. But Ms. Lakisha has definately set the bar and is the best voice in American idol since Carrie Underwood. She sang the ultimate Jennifer Holiday, Jennifer Hudson show stopper and knocked it out of the park flawlessly. Now she has to sing for 14 more weeks and show that she is not just the dime a dozen, grew up in the church R and B diva. If she can achieve that, she will blow by all Idol winners of the past. Diva is not something that I would put on her, based on what we have seen, but she does have that "IT" factor. - KEEPER

Purple Reign's Power Ranking - PRE SEASON WEEK #1

For the record, she most undoubtedly DID NOT hit that note. I'm glad Simon called her on it. I don't know why so many people get down on Simon. He just calls it like it is, no fluff or sugar coated disses.

I agree for the most part with Purple Reign's comments. Here, just to match the guys, are what I gave out of 5 possible points (in order of appearance):

Stephanie - 5
Amy - 2
Leslie - 4
Sabrina - 5
Antonella - 2
Jordin - 5
Nicole - 4
Haley - 3
Melinda - 4
Alaina - 2
Gina - 4
LaKisha - 5++++++

It's going to be interesting seeing what ladies end up going home simply because they have to make room for 6 guys.

I know one thing. I'm voting as often as I can each week to make sure my favorite - LaKisha - doesn't get bumped because everyone thinks she's a shoe-in. I've seen it happen before. If you think she's the best, don't take any chances. VOTE for her!!!

:)

Gina did in fact hit the note. She may not have hit it as cleanly or as big as Celine, but she did hit it. She was not flat in any way. It just wasn't money. The song was also lowered to fit better in Gina's voice. If she had to hit the actual note Celine did, no she wouldn't be able to.

#71
I didn't think Rudy was that bad. The 2 guys that I thought would be eliminated are still there. I must admit that Paul Kim was pretty bad.

I was surprised that Antonella was not voted off. I did think everyone got it right to get Amy kicked off.

I guess, as Simon so perfectly put it - which I think he was talking to someone else when he did - the song was too big for her.

Either you hit the note or you don't. No gray areas.

Antonella should've gone home last night. Sanjayah as well. But, both of them are some web site about voting for the worst, so they may just be around awhile.

I suppose it really doesn't matter what order they go home, as long as most of them go. So, the right ones went home last night even if not in the order I would've liked.

The boys stepped it up a little this week. Nice to see most of them trying.

The Standouts:phil Stacey, love his raspiness, Chris Sligh, great control and power, and Sundance, he's back.

Where I can see that Chris Richardson is marketable and good little entertainer, he is just not my thing. To me he is typical boy band at best.

AJ was better than last week. Sounded really good vocally. I want to sing that song.

Nick-Don't know if he can do anything other jazz well.

Brandon-Oh poor guy. After last night, he should stick to back ground vocals.

Sanjayah-He is a kid. Certainly not a bad voice. He has a great base to jump from. He needs training and a personality.

Blake Lewis-Not bad. Not great vocally. Fantastic beat box and scat.

I don't if it's 1 or 2 leaving on Thursday. But if I had to GUESS, I would say Nick and AJ will go. Sanjayah and Brandon should, but Sanjayah was in top 4 last week:eek: and I think Brandon may have the "cute" vote.

To me, Chris and Blake are what this competition should strive for.

They are the type of people that can be molded into your prototypical pop superstar...They are by far the most entertaining of the guys, as well.

The other two people that stood out to me were Sundance and Chris...Let me tell you, Chris does not look like what you would expect a potential American Idol to look like!

#77
I agree that the men were much better this week than last week. And after thinking about last week, I think the men are pretty even and maybe slight bit better than the ladies. Like in basketball the ladies 1 through 5 are clearly superior, but 1 through 10 the men the just as good. With that said.....

MVP OF THE NIGHT - Blake Lewis
Vocally not the best, good but not great. Performance wise absolutely outstanding. Dancing, scatting, hip hop look and vibe. Outstanding, this guy is going to go far.

MOST IMPROVED OF THE NIGHT - (tie) A.J. Talbaldo and Sundance Head
A.J. was 10 times better this week than last week and may have made his way into the top 12. His jazz improvision was good, and he stood out. Sundance showed that he is the throwback that everybody knew he was. He has good stage presence and a better voice than showed in the past. May not be top 12 material, but will go through until next week.

ALL PRO OF THE NIGHT - Phil Stacy
This guy is a straight up pro. Steady vocals, good song choice, little to no mistakes. Just a tad bit milktoast and vanilla, and may need a little soul, but steady and solid.

ON THE RISE - Nick Pedro
His version of Fever was not spot on but he pulled it out and I just like his smoky, jazz like vibe.

NO IMPROVEMENT OF THE NIGHT - Chris Richardson, Chris Sligh and Brandon Rodgers
Richardson to me is trying to hard to be Chris "Timberlake". The same thing he did this week, he did last week as far as I am concerned.

Chris Sligh was very sappy last night. I love my wife too, but "dude" you are trying to win. Do what you did last night at home.

And Brandon Rodgers to me has no soul, no soul whatsoever which I think is important. His performances are very backgroundy like, very technical and robotic. Nothing he does puts him in the spot light.

LEAST IMPROVED - Jared Cotter
Simon challenged him to be more spetacular and what does he do? Pulls out a corny version of Marvin Gaye's "Lets Get it On". He took a step back last night. he has the talent, has the look, has the charisma, until he opens his mouth to sing, and he showed not much. I like him alot, but last night may have done him in.

CUT FROM THE TEAM - Sanjay Malakar
If I hear Paula say that he is young one more time.....Age has nothing to do with this. Fantasia was 19, Diana DeGarmo WAS 16!!!Lisa Tucker was 16, Paris Bennett was 17. This guy is just strange. If he goes through, something is wrong. Clearly he is not ready for this. In fact I have been watching this show since the beginning, and I don't recall another contestant with as much talent, who is so unready for the spotlight.

PREDICTION - Sanjay and Jared (unfortunately) goes home.

#79
The show last night was a little bit better but not much. I must admit I didn't know a couple of the songs.

Phil, Chris Sligh and Blake were the only standouts. I think Jared will survive this week.

PREDICTION FOR THIS WEEK: Sanjayah and Brandon

Interesting night.

Melinda was absolute perfection. She has the talent AND the musicality. She knows how to make a song her own and interesting I just loved her.

Lakisha-Great as well. Less of a musician than Melinda. It's down to these 2. Nobody else, girls or guys can compete with these 2.

Stephanie, Sabrina, Jordan and Gina are hanging in there.

Bye Bye to Alaina, Antonella, Leslie and Hayley. Tonight-Antonella and........Hayley.

Completely agree! I believe if America chooses the best talent and personality, then Melinda has already won this season.

Let me start off by saying I would like to be the charter member of the "Can Paula Abdul Club". Though she seems to be more coherent this season, she is completely clueless about what she says. I would like to replace Paula next season with Marie Osmond. And if you saw her as a judge on another Simon Coweel reality talent show, you know what I am talking about. She is good!!! With that said, here is the color anaylisis from last nights show....

CLASS VALEDICTORIAN - Melinda Doolittle (A)
Simon called her "a breath of fresh air", and i tend to agree with him. She is an absolute joy to watch, and she sings like a pro. But I just can't get over the fact that she is only 29, because she comes across so much older. Just as I could not see Taylor Hicks as an American Idol, I am having the same issue with Melinda. That is my problem, not hers. Her My Funny Valentine was exceptional.

HONOR ROLL-Stephanie Edwards (B+), Lakisha Jones (B+), Jordin Sparks (B)
Randy called Edwards performance "Beyonce lite" and I totally agree. She sounded just like her. However this girl has huge stage performance and lots of energy. And on top of that she makes little mistakes. She is Top 12 material.

Lakisha took a very minor step back last night. Don't get me wrong, she is still the front runner. But she was so spetacular last week, that any thing else was a step down. And if it was up to me every Aretha, Whitney, Celine, and Gladys song would be retired from the competition. Because her problem last night is if you heard one Midnight Train to Georgia, you have heard them all. I wish she would have sang something else

Jordin Sparks is getting better. Sometimes it seems like she is hyperventilating when she sings, but she has such a sparkling personality, it is hard not to like her. Last night she sang "When Will My Reflection", and she did well. Can she stay out of the syruppy, sugary sweet vibe that gets old, remains to be seen.

AVERAGE STUDENT - Gina Glocksen (B-), Sabrina Sloan (B-)
Gina was better last night, Sabrina was not. Gina has an edge about her in spite of what Simon says. However that edge in image does not translate in to "edge" in talent. She is what she is, to me an 80's throw back, that is her genre, and she made it work last night. As far as Sabrina Sloan, she has the same problem as Brandon, no soul what so ever. In her piece last night, she made it seem like she came from a church background, and I never would have known, because that does not come out. If she had a little of "the church" in her, she would be spetacular.

BARELY MAKING THE GRADE - Leslie Hunt (C-), Alaina Alexander (C)
What in the hades was Leslie doing last night. That Jazz scat was all over the place. Plus she tries to move and she can't. Alaina's "I'm Not Ready to Make Nice" was a good attempt but a no go for me. She is not good enough.

DUNCE CAPS - Haley Scarnato (D), Antonella Barba (D/F)
Haley is forgettable. Can't even remember what she sang. I do know that she was not like Olivia Newton John. Which leaves me with.....MS. BARBA . No this heffa did not attempt to put herself in a catagory with Jennifer Hudson. She is folding under the pressure of her porn on line, and now is trying to lash out. Her comments were completely out of line and just for that she has to go. As far as her performance. All I can say is that it was marginally better than last week.

Purple Reign's Power Ranking - PRE SEASON WEEK #2

Just to comment on Jennifer Hudson... for the record. Since she is from Chicago, you would assume that majority of her votes would come from Chicago area. On the night before she was eliminated we had a huge storm and power outage and that affected the outcome.

I usually like to root for locals, but I just can't warm up to Leslie and Gina. Both are from towns not far from me. I think they deserve ro go for few more rounds, but nobody is in the same league as Melinda and Lakisha.

Did they ever mention that Leslie has lupus? I'm glad to see that she is not trying to play that as an emotional card to get votes. Although I'm sure if she goes on AI producres will find a way to get that in there (like they did with Elliott).

I wasn't able to watch the whole show but I did watch enough to be able to vote. And vote I did, as often as I could get through. I alternated between Melinda and Lakisha for the simple reason I think both of them are head and shoulders above everyone else.

Tonight should be interesting. If Sanjaya and Antonella are still around it will be solely because of that blasted "vote for the worst" website that's still around.

Nice post! I agree with most of what you said, except I'm not really sure about the Sanjaya thing. If you heard RS last week, apparently Sanjaya received within the top four votes for the guys. I think the young ladies like him, and might vote to keep him around for awhile.

Edit: and for me, I would put 1) Melinda, and 2) Lakisha

Sanjaya was within the top four votes of the guys because he and Sundance were prominently touted on the website that helped keep Chicken Little around for so long...

I have one worry about Melinda and Lakisha. They have a lot in common, and I'm afraid that at some point down the line the people who like them both will split their votes, enabling someone else to sneak by.

And, once again, I think that stupid "Chicken Little" website has had a measurable impact. There is NO way A.J. should have gone home this soon... At some point I think the producers are going to have to consider a "reinstatement" procedure or something.
