This thread is for general superbowl discussion. Boy, do I hate Manning so there would be nothing better than a Bears win. Who is everybody else rooting for?

Bears. Although living in CHicago area I am already sick and tired of all the coverage it is getting :)

I'm glad we are "underdogs". Just like we were against the saints.

Since no one else will ever know what you're talking about Doc, I guess I should confess and explain that you noticed right away that I had put the Patriots in instead of the Colts.

With that, I guess we can get back to the topic at hand...

I think this could be a very interesting matchup. I like the Bears defense and I think any team with a coach named "Lovey" deserves a win.

I got over the Pats loss much quicker than I thought but I'm still rooting for the Bears. In fact I have decided that the Pats loss was necessary so that Peyton could finally choke at the highest level.

So.. go Bears!

My roommate would have a fit if I was pulling for anyone but the Bears. He's a lifelong fan. I guess I have to stick with my preseason pick, since I DID pick the Bears to win it all in the beginning.:D I think they should redo the Super Bowl Shuffle if they win in 2 weeks...Urlacher would look so damn funny trying to rap, would be hilarious!

COLTS...want to see a new champion.
Although I really like Lovie Smith, He's done an outstanding job this season. He's so cool on the sideline.
I won't be dissapointed in a Bears win.

Despite the drubbing the Broncos have suffered at the hands of Manning, I don't hate him. He's probably the best QB in the NFL. I do root against the Colts however, because I think it's funny that he's never won the big show, and I want that running gag to continue.

I'm a die hard Manning fan. I LOVED watching him @ Tenn before my move to Louisiana. Now that I have been here for 10 years, I love him more. The Mannings, in general, are beloved here. Since the Saints are out (we'll be back!), It's all Colts for me!

I wonder if they could get Jim McMahon and his crew to do a retro?

So you are rooting for either? Since both teams have a black head coach. Or am I missing something?

Slim commented in another thread that this will be the 1st time ever that both teams have a black head coach. That alone might get him to watch since, as has been mentioned, he doesn't like football.

Well, with me wanting the matchups to be the Saints Vs. the Patriots, I'm pretty much upset with the whole thing.

I really dislike Manning as a player for soem reason...I love his commercials and his persona, but as a player it's a whole nother story...And I can't explain it.

And Rex Grossman is the worst QB ever to bring a team to the Superbowl.

So...I really don't care who wins...If I wasn't a Super Bowl commercial junkie I wouldn't even watch.

I'm not a big Rex fan at all, but keep in mind that this is really his first full season that he has played in NFL. He is like our Darko Milicic :) Potential is there but way too incosistent.

I wouldn't say that Rex got us to Superbowl. I give more props to Robbie Gould (can you believe he was undrafted and working construction a year ago) :) and all the other guys on the team.

I tend to root for guys who get the "can't win the big one" label. Because of that I'm rooting for the Manning, Dungy and the Colts. I have nothing against the Bears and I even like them a little, so if they win I won't be torn up, but I'm rooting for Indianapolis.

Rex is no great QB by any means but the media is piling on him unmercifully and its reached mythical proportions. If he sucks so bad why is Lovie Smith sticking with him when he has a capable backup?

Not counting the losers here are the worst QBs to have won superbowls in the past 20 years (I'm 32 and can't comment intelligently on anything before 1980)
Brad Johnson
Trent Dilfer
Kurt Warner
Jeff Hostettler
Doug Williams

Dilfer, Hoss and Williams are particularly notable since they are essentially career backups. Warner had 2 or 3 good seasons on a high powered offense but has otherwise proven to be one of the worst starting QBs I've ever seen.

Rex is still young enough to have a better career than all of those guys plus a few others (Jim McMahon and Mark Rypien) as well.

There's no "might" to it; that alone IS why I'm watching.

Wouldn't be the same without "Sweetness!"

When my teams are out, I try to root for a favorite player or coach who hasn't won. i.e. Elway, Jim Kelly, unless the Steelers are in it,in which case I will root for ANYONE, (even the Cowboys) against them. I like Manning, and I think Dungy deserves to win a ring as a coach. So

GO COLTS!!!!

I'm not sure how you're defining "worst." Warner had just completed a league-MVP season throwing 41 TDs with a 109.2 rating.

Dilfer had recently been a Pro Bowler, and was a consistent veteran, with 77 TD passes over the previous 5 years.

Brad Johnson was a two-time Pro Bowl selection with 140 TD passes in his 12-year career.

Doug Williams was a 7-year veteran with 98 TDs under his belt.

I'll give you Hostetler. At that point he was an unknown, and never became more than average, but he made a nice long career out of it.

Grossman has proven thus far only that he is wildly inconsistent. There were four games this season in which he had 0 TDs and three or more INTs. And Indy leads all teams with 5 postseason INTs already.

A side note on mobility... Dan Marino set the bar for statuesqueness with 87 rushing yards over 17 years. Rex has a shot at breaking that record with a grand total of 2 this season. :D

OK, I don't want to just pile on Rex... he has shown flashes of brilliance (or luminosity, at least) and this is only his first real year of action. But I don't think it's any stretch at all to characterize this Super Bowl as featuring the greatest disparity between quarterbacks of any SB to date.
