Will somebody tell kevin martin to stop doing that pumpfake and shoot the ball?

I 1000% don't feel the same. His fakes or whatever he does... is what makes him KM. It's what creates his shots and to change that now IMO would be pretty. UHH...

My only thing is I would like to see him take more shots vs passing it off but still ... More shots for him, is what I want to see. Anything else the guy is exceeding all expectations

Sorry, it irritates me...He passes up a lot of shots and does that pump fake of his...i have yet to see anybody fall for it...
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth man. When we drafted the kid NOBODY thought he could do what he is doing. I agree that it's part of his game, and to take it out now could drasticaly change his game, just like if we tried to change his shot to a more conventional shot.

Not quite correct. There were some who had faith in Martin's ability to bring his college game to the NBA level.

;)

Sorry V.... I guess I just don't have the Bball vission you have. I'll never doubt you again *wink*

But you got to admit that even you never thought he'd be the Kings best player just a few years later.

I'm not talking about me specifically. I'm talking about me, Kingsgurl, 1kingzfan and 6th, all of whom were on the Kevin Martin bandwagon from day 1. In fact, Kingsgurl even selected Kevin in the mock draft held over at bleachermob.com BEFORE the real draft.

:)

I don't know if I'd call him the best player on the team, BTW, but I sure think he's earned that starting slot.

I think I would. The problem is that the rest of the team (and possibly the coach) hasn't recognized it yet.

im talking about at the 3 point line as well...not inside the 3 point, cuz he does his thing inside the 3....but out at the 3 point line, a lot of time he does a pump fake, and just ends up losing his dribble and not shooting with not a lot of time left on the shot clock....

This is just silly, IMHO. If you feel the need to continue to pick those nits, feel free but realize you're spitting into the wind on this one.

I think this is the wrong kind of attitude with Martin. Yes, he was a long shot, and he's exploded beyond any non-homeristic expectations. But if there's a flaw in his game, we all should still expect him to improve on that instead of saying "Well, he is already better than we thought him." He's only 23 and has a lot to improve on.

Ok, I know exactly what he;s talking about:

Kevin catches ball at three point line, brings it down to his hip, then does an incredibly slow pseudo-pumpfake that is really more of an "I don't want to shoot" than anything else. Never works, but not sure its supposed to. He just kind of shows the ball, often waves it around a bit, sometimes dumps it off. Everyone has seen it. Looks like he should just shoot the damn ball, but he doesn't. I'm not going to start a thread over a quibble given the much larger issues going around, but neither should it be dismissed. There's something there.

There is something there. I'm sure will be worked out eventually... but the people complaining about KM not getting enough shots should take notice.

Yes, he has a lot more open threes than he takes and often after he passes them up, the team gets a tougher shot. In the Boston game he had an open three off the curl, passed iit up and then had to launch a contested three from the corner, which he missed. I think he's worried about the old ball returning and him not shooting as well with it. He shot 3s fine last year though, so I think it's just a mental tick.

i know its not that big an issue, it was just something i felt like making a thread about....if you guys dont like my thread/issue dont click it...you act like it takes up a lot of space on the board, let it die down and fall to the bottom of the page and the point will be made...its a message board ppl, not life, well atleast not for me

At this stage I am not sure that the move in question is as much a pump fake as just part of his shooting rythm (ritual) This move can be disastarous when they tellegraph the shot but if the move ALSO precedes a drive or pass then it's just funky, and as long as it works why worry.

I think this move is great -- it helps freeze the other player when he does shoot, and when he sees a little hesitation in challenging the shot he drives into the lane. It doesn't work every time, but it works enough to not worry about it. Kevin has a slow shooting motion and he needs to keep the defender guessing to get it off.
