The College Football Season

Here's my idea on this season: The winner of next week's Michigan vs OSU game is crowned the national champion and the rest of the season is cancelled for everyone.

Everyone dwarfs the Falcons LB.

.
The terrorists don't, because AF grads kick their butts.

All I'm saying is, I won't be surprised if Quinn ends up taking a "tainted supplement"(a la Shawne Merriman).

Anyway, who wants to see a rematch between the Irish and Michigan? Notre Dame got smoked at home.

That's a pretty vile statement, either way. I would be surprised, because Quinn is smart enough to know what goes into his body.

I like my chances in a rematch - Michigan was pretty vanilla before the match, and Weis has now seen the new UM defense. If ND beats USC, I don't see why they don't deserve the chance. If.

Hey, Venom? This has been a pretty cool thread. Let's not take it into the gutter, okay?

---------------------------------------------------------

Spike - I'm liking the way ND is continuing to improve as the weeks go by. I think the ND-USC game just might be a lot better than a whole bunch of USC fans expect.

:D

ONE MORE GAME!

The Heisman is on Troy Smith's mantle and the National Title is within grasp.

ONE MORE GAME!

Saturday is going to give me fits.

If USC wins out I'd say there's no chance of that. Otherwise a rematch is possible but probable only if Michigan wins.

It will be interesting to see how the math/computers work that out. If Michign wins, OSU will have 1 loss (to the #1 team in the nation) compared to USC with one loss (to an unranked opponent).

Anyway you slice it, it is a big effing mess - like it is every year and why I no longer care much.

Don't forget there are two human polls that also equate a large portion of the BCS (Harris and Coaches Poll). And human polls always drop teams that lose at least one spot. Totally possible that if Michigan wins OSU only drops one spot to 2, but if Michigan loses they will drop at least one spot behind the #3.

Then you factor in that for USC to win out they have to get through Cal and ND which will boost them with the computers.

And yes, the BCS is a joke - not only for being a useless mess but for destroying my favorite bowl game in the process.

THat is why I think we should do away with the BCS and have a playoff serires.
Agreed, every year there's controversy about who should be #1, ranked etc. They could still have the bowl games to get their $.
I'm still smiling over killing Auburn:D
It should be a great game Sat. GO BLUE! I can't stand OSU!

But if ND wins out then their only loss is to the #1 team in the nation as well... :D

If you want a good predictor, you can use the Sagarin rating, which can be found at http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt06.htm

His ELO-CHESS module is what the BCS uses, and it currently has as its top 5:
Michigan (27)
Rutgers (67)
Ohio State (48)
Notre Dame (22)
Southern Cal (2)

Strength of schedule plays a factor into this rating (in parenthesis).
It also contains rankings biased towards margin of victory, which no longer count, or else Texas would be #2 based on their walloping of teams such as Directional Univeristy and I-AA Sam Houston State. Look for OSU & UM's SoS to go up based on the fact that they play each other. ND's will take a hit this week, but will go back up after playing USC.

But if ND wins out then their only loss is to the #1 team in the nation as well... :D
very good point...that will also create a colossal mess which I would love. You see, I hate the BCS system so much that the thing I cheer for the most at this time of year (in relation to college football) is a BCS meltdown. I may get my wish again this year.

I´m starting to follow college football, and if I´m not mistaken, this BCS think is like the two top teams (in some kind of crazy rank) facing each other in a sort of championship game, is that correct??

this ranking stuff seems stupid, no way you can tell which are the beas teams if they don´t play each other or at least the same opponents
but that´s just me...

It's you and about 300 million other people.

Let me put it as simple as possible: The BCS is a horrible, corrupt (almost criminal) system that continues to exist because of monetary greed.

In addition to the 4 regular bowls this year, Rose, Orange, Fiesta and Sugar, they'll be having a designated National Championship game I believe.

Definitely in the new stadium in Glendale a week after the Fiesta Bowl...

I just tuned in to the Bears-USC game. Are my eyes deceiving me? The score is 6-2? Have they been playing baseball?

that was a great game between Michigan and Ohio State. Unfortunately, Michigan lost. :(

Great win by Notre Dame, too :D

Hopefully Rutgers can come back against Cincy!

We've had TONS of opportunities that we just let slip away. I mean seriously, it's ridiculous how many opportunities we had that we didn't capitalize on. :(

Turnovers nearly costed tOSU the game. And it was looking like every penalty was going against us, until Crable attempted manslaughter. Thank god for Troy Smith. I think there are not too many players that could return the next play after that hit.

VF21, I think ND plays Forest Guard next week. Which side will you support in that game?

How was Youngstown State, Northern Illinios, and the bottom feeders of the Big 10? The schedule discussions get old. Bring something better. The only decent team OSU has beaten this year is UM, because Texas hasn't looked that good against quality opposition.

Troy Smith had a decent game, but people would be singing a different tune had they lost the game. He did what he had to, and now OSU is in the title game. That's about it.

BTW, next week ND plays USC :D

Not to nitpick, but Youngstown State isn't in the Big 10, and OSU didn't play them this year.

I always root for the Irish. Always. (I'm choosing the high ground here and not assuming you were meaning anything else by that comment...) ;) Nice to see you post, BTW.
