Shock awed by Arco Thunder!!!! (title changed after game)

#32
That was a hell of a game, and very, very loud. I couldn't hear anyone talk next to me. It was obvious Detroit was intimidated by ARCO. I mean, when does Katie Smith ever miss free throws or wide open 3s?

Speaking of 3s, that crazy buzzer beater by Buescher is what I think killed Detroit, that shot brought the house down.

I also saw Yolanda Griffith yelling at the team after the game, saying they still made too many mistakes and not to celebrate yet. You just have to love that.

Your telling me the kings dont put out effort hustle and teamwork? I beg to differ they do. It is just it is alot harder to play defense in the NBA because the players are bigger, faster, stronger.

This isn't really about the Kings and their level of effort (which, yes, is oftimes sadly lacking) it's about the Monarchs. If you don't like women's basketball, that is fine. No need for you to read about, watch it or post about it. This isn't your first warning on this subject.

It is just it is alot harder to play defense in the NBA because the players are bigger, faster, stronger.

I totally disagree with this statement. It might be (would be) harder for a WNBA player to defend an NBA player because they are bigger, faster, stronger BUT, the women are playing against each other, which levels the playing field, so to speak. They are playing against players who are every bit as fast as, strong as etc. as they are. The same as the guys in the NBA do.

You just don't get it, do you?

This isn't about the Kings. It's about the Monarchs. If you can't appreciate good basketball when you see it unless there's testosterone involved, that's your problem BUT to say it's harder to play defense in the NBA because the players are bigger, faster and stronger is just ... well, uninformed.

Playing defense is playing defense. The strengths and weaknesses of the players are relative. The people doing the guarding are the same gender as the people they're defending, so the "bigger, faster, stronger" concept is just silly.

I asked you in a PM to please refrain from making this into a debate about the WNBA vs. the NBA. NOW IS NOT THE TIME.

This is the Monarchs forum. If you cannot appreciate the fantastic job the Sacramento Monarchs are doing, then at least show enough respect for the people who can to give it a rest.

Thank you ever so.

...I would like to have seen some of the Kings on the sidelines to watch this and maybe get some pointers. Maybe they'll be there Wednesday.

Two Kings players were there, but I can't remember which. Also, new Coach Musselman and his family were there.

I certainly hope more of the Kings players show up on Wednesday! Who knows, the Monarchs can teach them a few lessons on how to play DEFENSE and WINNING TEAM BASKETBALL! :)

Beautiful game to watch & the win was the topping on the cake!
Great floor game for Ticha & Haynie. Was amazed Lawson did not score, but it's o.k she kept trying, & she did the other things very well.
Major props to ''Showtime'' Dorrelle...she got the party started with her 3's..
The team never looked back. Excellent coaching tonight. Thanks to coach W. for taking some responsibility for the last loss. Fans & players respect that & they responded.
Loved the sign from Monarch fan..''WE RUN THIS'' Just awesome!

Enjoyed watching Tweety Nolan play, shes a great shooter. Just thankful her game didnot hurt us. Fabulous Defense SacTown.
I just love it when we get to see the Monarchs offense come our way in the 2nd half...so smooth, so pretty & fans we are one big family, loud & proud!

Lets Go Run This Monarchs....CAN YOU FEEL THIS?

I may have created a monster. My wife just asked if we can go to the next Monarchs game as well. If we can find a sitter, we're going. She normally doesn't watch basketball much (sees an occasional Kings game but usually talks through most of it), but the women's game she apparently likes. :)
Maybe I've created two. My wife's friend wants to go again as well! I hope the sitter is available....

Fantastic effort this afternoon from the home team, major assist to the ARCO faithful who absolutely did come strong behind the team.

A few of us talked about some of these impressions during our postgame dining.

1. Every single one of the post players owned Ruth Riley today. I kept saying during the game that any post player on the Monarchs who did not take it to Riley should be fined HEAVILY. I thought she was *supposedly* all mad about her run-in with Buescher....and I also noted that the headband was off after the first quarter.

2. One of the arco security folk's duties apparently is to be the runner to get Joe a megaphone. Because dude left his chair at the back of the brothers and returned shortly with the megaphone Joe apparently keeps somewhere for games of importance. I remember doing this  when I saw Joe starting to yell stuff across court at probably Laimbeer. I was thinking "dude, do you REALLY need to go there? Isn't that a little bit grade school?"

3. I wasn't REAL sure why, but the Shock apparently were unaware that the anthem was about to start, because they were still shooting around when the singer moved to center court, and they were still scrambling when she started to sing to get in the requisite line.

4. Did they REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY not trust the ARCO crowd to be civilized enough to not boo Leslie when she was announced as the league MVP? Why was there no on court recognition? Never saw the all WNBA teams either. Felt slightly gipped. Sorta. Well ok maybe not THAT gipped but you know what I'm sayin?

5. Erin Buescher's desperation 3 was the surest sign that things were going to be ok in this game. You just don't lose when shots are dropping like that.

6. Tweety Nolan is a freak. STRAIGHT UP FREAK.

7. Rebekkah Brunson can fly. STRAIGHT UP FLY.

8. Wednesday's game is going to be nasty. The same magnitude if not greater than that of game 2, which the Monarchs did a pretty good job of withstanding for about 2.5 quarters. Wednesday will be about redemption for one team and a matter of again, how badly the Monarchs want this. Probably too, how bad we as fans want this. Both will have to leave it all out in the ether @ ARCO, 'cause this is the last game we have there this season. Time to represent Sacramento fans...its on us too. (btw, seems ARCO is near sellout for Weds...so props to all who got their seats).

9. I say this as if this is the first time this has happened...or as if this is the first season that its happened...but I'm really tired of the refs not seeing the fouls that Katie Smith commits. Seriously.

10. Very interesting rotations Laimbeer went with, I thought the Powell, Smith, Nolan lineup was intriguing because I swear I was trying to figure out why Kara Lawson all of a sudden had switched with Ticha and had taken Tweety.

ARCO Thunder day 2....

Monarchs Playoffs 2006 "WE RUN THIS!!"

Representcha Coast Ladies...

And remember who you are...you are the reigning WNBA champions. Defend what's yours.

How could I forget......

: Doris Burke Impression: "We see you Ticha Penicheiro....!"

Thanks for figuring out what you needed to do today. 40 more minutes Ticha, 40 more minutes...do your thing 40 more minutes and bring this home. This still is on you, make them pay....

Take the kids. This is different from a Kings game - they are all family friendly and it's great role modeling for the kids...They will love the kid dancers.;)

I agree they should have presented the trophy to LL on the court.
Maybe it was hers & Donna O. decision to do behind the scenes?
Oh well, congrats to LL. Now go help us win another Gold medal.

We have some other business to attend to like winning another Championship!

In response to the Lisa Leslie not getting the trophy on the court, why would they do that? she plays for LA and we hate LA and she would have got booed. So why subject her to that?

I am a basketball fan, and while I detest Lisa Leslie (and the LA Sparks), I admit she had a fantastic season...her best yet as a professional basketball player. She absolutely deserved that award. I, for one, along with most of my friends, would not have booed her, but would have given her the applause and recognition she deserved as the Most Valuable Player in the WNBA this year. Not everyone is classless. Some of us appreciate and applaud talent and effort, even if it comes from our arch-rivals.

We took our son (3-yr old) to Sunday's game. He enjoyed it, but got restless. An evening game would just be asking for trouble (getting tired/cranky in that environment later in the evening).

It has nothing to do with the game (we all enjoyed Sunday's game and he will go to more in the future) and everything to do with the age and time of the event. ;)

In fact, we took him to a game a couple years ago - we were able to attend one in a luxury box my father-in-law's company has and had a good time. He was way too small to know what was going on, though.

In fact, here's a picture from the box of that game. He was only about 4 months old at the time. It was the June 7, 2003 game against the Sparks.

Team USA is going to have to do battle without the two best centers. First we had Yo backing out... and now it looks like Lisa backed out because of some family issues she is dealing with at the moment. I think our team is really going to miss her veteran leadership and all around skill. Experience goes a long way when you're playing in the World Championships. And we've now lost A LOT of our usual leadership out there on the court, not just Yo and Lisa, but Dawn Staley as well.

But congrats to Lisa on the MVP, it is absolutely well-deserved!

And back to our business at hand... what a great game last night! Everyone was showing Erin's ridiculous 3 pt miracle shot on their sports casts (multiple times). I think that shot was the nail in the coffin.

One more ladies. One more and maybe we'll get some respect.

Because BRad1055 Sheryl Swoopes recieved her MVP Trophy at the finals last year, along with the All-WNBA team on our Floor. It is what they do. So for that not to happen would seem Odd.

But I can also understand that there are people who aren't regular fans of the W, who would have Boo her just because she was a LA Players, and had heard about the rivilry.

Kinda like how you are *****ing in the Monarchs Forum Now. Not knowin what the score is an baggin on the Ladies. Even when they are winning with ultimate Team work...

Perhaps it was best that they didn't. But those of us who are real fans we a little cheated. LLL had a great year.

I agree MB...Too bad Lisa L. will now not play for team USA.
Hope it doesn't turn out like the Mens team where the playing field
evens out more. Like you said who will be our leaders? Especially at the center position.
