It's game day!

A good number of our Monarchs faithful are at Arco and I'm sure they'll create an Arco Thunder not often heard in the WNBA.

Today is a huge game and I'm sitting here, favorite beverage on ice and potato salad chilling in the refrigerator. I can't be at the game but I can have my own celebration here at home.

So, GO MONARCHS!!!

WE RUN THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

Monarchs off to a GREAT start! And Arco is ROCKIN'!!!

I didn't hear the attendance count, but the upper levels have more than a few people in them. That's outstanding!!!

And Walker is looking like her old self! Ticha seems more alive and Erin is having a great game, too.

And again, the crowd is HUGE!!!

7:50 left in the second. The Monarchs CLEARLY taking control of this game. They lead 28-18, with Rebekkah going to the line.

29-18 Monarchs

Sacramento up 44-33 at the half.

Lambeer going insane on the sidelines. I'm not sure having him miked was a good idea. ;)

Across the court, they've shown Joe and Gavin on their feet a LOT.

Tough defense. Lawson putting pressure on the inbounds pass and stealing it from a pretty angry Cheryl Ford, who sure looks a lot like her father (Karl Malone).

This is really top-caliber basketball.

79-56 Monarchs with 5:54 left

Monarchs continue to dominate.

85-64 with 2:20 left.

The Monarchs bench has been phenomenal! And the crowd is still loud, although I suspect a great number of them will not be able to speak for days after today.

Detroit gets an easy two and Coach Whis is right in the face of the errant Monarchs.

I used to think Coach Whis was a bit rude, but that was before I heard Bill Lambeer. Geez... I'm surprised Cheryl Ford or Katie Smith haven't flat gone off on him.

The Shock simply do not possess the HUNGER and the HEART that's been shown throughout this playoff run by our own Sacramento Monarchs. I would like to have seen some of the Kings on the sidelines to watch this and maybe get some pointers. Maybe they'll be there Wednesday.

Coach Whis, "I don't CARE what the score is. Take care of business!!!"

Whoooooooooot!!!

Monarchs hustle for EVERY single rebound. They're aggressive, they're focused and they're not going to give the Shock anything easy.

Not sure of the Monarchs lineup, but there are maybe only two starters on the court.

85-67 Monarchs

Brunson with an impressive move inside, gets the bucket and the +1.

88-67 Monarchs

Detroit with 23 turnovers. The announcers are saying it's a lack of focus. I think that might be a small part, but a big part is the tenacious defense of the Monarchs!

37 seconds left.

Haynie dribbles it out and the Monarchs are ONE WIN away from a repeat as WNBA champions!!!

I have goose-bumps and ARCO is on their feet!!! Lots of families in the crowd.

Whooooooooooot!!!!!

Kevin was there, as was Shareef and his son. Talked to Kevin a bit after the game, he seemed pretty impressed with the defense.

Great job, ladies. One more to go!

Oh, almost forgot. Coach Musselman was there too. Probably adding some slides to his powerpoint presentation to the team as we speak;)
Maybe he'll point to the Monarchs defense and say, "See, that's what it looks like for the home team to play defense at Arco."

;)

Yeah, they showed Muss early and SAR and Martin later on the Jumbotron. Muss in particular got a big ovation from the crowd.

The place was ROCKING in the 3rd and 4th quarters. I'd say the upper levels were between 1/3 to 1/2 full or so. Hard to say exactly....

It looked as though they were at least 1/3 full and maybe 1/2, so your estimate sounds about right.

I do know they had to keep adjusting the sound levels because the crowd noise was deafening...

Nice job by all who attended. The Detroit team was shocked.

:p

Just a great job, ladies! Great job. What a joy to behold.

If not for that single, final quarter in Game 2, we'd be done and celebrating by now.

As long as the offense is just good enough, we will win on Wednesday night. The Monarchs are a far superior D team to Detroit, even though some reports apparently have claimed the Shock to be the best WNBA defensive club over the course of the season (defensive FG%???). I hate to sound so confident, and it usually comes back to bite me, but I am. I just really think that the M's are the better overall team and have hit their stride at exactly the right time.

Today's effort by the M's was again just pure SUFFOCATING. Nolan had hers, true, but there were no other "shocking" performances in the gym by the visitors.

You know what? I think...

WE RUN THIS !!!!

Monarchs extend to 20 straight with 1kingzfan in the gym. ;)

And yes, tickets already in hand for Wednesday night. :D

How 'bout Dorrell's first half stretch with two big 3's and stellar D on Smith?

How 'bout the aggressive Ticha showing up at the gym today?

How 'bout those meager 8 M turns to the Shock's 23 miscues?

How 'bout those 4 Monarchs in double digits and 3 more with 8 or more points?

How 'bout that Game 3 blow out when Kara went scoreless?

How 'bout that Buescher desperation trey in the bottom of the net as the shot clock sounded?

How 'bout dem Monarchs???? :D

Ah, grasshopper, some things within the game remain constant. Like effort, hustle and teamwork. Good things happen when you leave it all on the court and when you have your team-mates back.

Just out of curiosity, do you watch the game and spend all your time thinking 'Well, they don't do that in the NBA" or do you watch and see a team, playing a beautiful game with skill, finesse and genuine passion and will to win?

What can Muss show about what the WNBA players are doing playing defense? It is a totally differant game with totally differant methods?
The speed of the game is indeed a factor to cite a difference. But overall, defensive fundamentals are defensive fundamentals (at any speed and level), and the ladies do it better than the Kings.

It's not even close.

I may have created a monster. My wife just asked if we can go to the next Monarchs game as well. If we can find a sitter, we're going. She normally doesn't watch basketball much (sees an occasional Kings game but usually talks through most of it), but the women's game she apparently likes. :)
