KINGS SIGN LOREN WOODS TO A CONTRACT
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – The Sacramento Kings today signed center
Loren Woods to a contract, it was announced by Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“Signing Loren gives us some additional depth, length and athleticism at center,” explained Petrie. “He’s a younger, experienced player who will rebound the ball and block shots. Loren is still growing as a player. We look forward to having him on the team.”
At 7-2, 260 pounds, Woods is a five-year NBA veteran who spent the past two seasons playing for the Toronto Raptors. He averaged 2.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game last season in 27 contests, while shooting .475 percent from the field and .429 percent from the free throw line. Woods recorded career highs in points (18) versus Orlando (11/01/02) and rebounds (14) on two separate occasions.
Averaging 11.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 107 games over his four-year collegiate career, Woods played two seasons at Arizona (1999-2001) and two at Wake Forest (1996-98).
