Wild in the Streets - Circle Jerks
Prophetess - there are a ton of reasons. The prominent reason is that my musical tastes have narrowed and I prefer simpler music. I also don't care for their direction from the late 80s on, I definitely prefered their 70s rocking stuff to the heavy keyboard influence that was brought in. I'm not particularly keen on Ayn Rand and Objectivist philosophies. And lastly, I abhorred their recent cover of Summertime Blues (I'm a Cochran guy through and through).

indeed it is! as is pretty much every deftones song. 
i'm on a huge 'tones kick right now. gonna see them (w/ korn...ugh) on the 20th at the sleeptrain amphitheatre. it'll be my 9th deftones concert. can't wait!
and the sleepwalk cover is dope, but its not even a complete cover. the 'tones were wasted outta their minds when they recorded it, and only got about a half a take. that half is amazing, though. i'd like to see them finish it one of these days.
deftones - lifter

and the thing is, the deftones aren't really metal. they're much more revolutionary and experimental than people give them credit for. along with rage against the machine, they pioneered the first generation of "nu-metal," i guess you could say, though the nu-metal that followed (korn, limp bizkit, linkin park) hardly lived up to the sound that bands like the 'tones had crafted, and that kind of got the 'tones lumped into a hated rock genre. as for that sound, the deftones don't really sound like anybody out there. that's how unique they are. there are a few bands that sound like the deftones, but it has never never worked the other way around...leastways not since '94.
anyways, that's my rant. i gather there aren't many deftones fans on this board anyways, so it doesn't really matter. they're hometown heroes, though, hailing directly from sacramento, CA. in fact, during one of the first deftones concerts i ever went to (sometime in the late 90's), chino moreno (vocals) was wearing a very old school roseville west little league shirt. being from roseville, i found that awesomely funny.

I wouldn't really call them metal either, although lumping them in with nu-metal is semi appropriate. They were doing what they were doing long ago, I'm talking about my jr and sr years of highschool (90-92) at the Cattle Club when I was often stuck carting my bro and his buddies out there for their own gigs as most of them couldn't drive. I was into that scene at the time and liked a lot of hybrid metal acts but couldn't get into them for whatever reason and never would have figured them to become a national act. But I'm happy any time local guys do good.

One of my brother's bandmates in high school played with them, don't know if he still does (his name is Tyler Pope).
I loved Tesla, went to the video shoots for Love Song and The Way it Is.

I'm pretty sure John McCrea is from Sacramento, and considering that everyone other than Vince DiFiore has been replaced at some point, I would consider them a Sacramento band.
Speaking of Sacramentans, I'm currently listening to Aural Pleasure by Blackalicious who met at my old high school: John F Kennedy.
