Latest rumor about Bonzi

To clarify my own point more. The only realistic situation where I could see Bonzi walking for nothing would be if Petrie had a trade for KT that included an expiring contract (Magloire?) and was getting ready to move way under the cap for what is supposed to be a very deep free agent pool next off season. It's possible he believe that with another year of the young guys developing and player's adjusting to a new coach, that he can fill the holes to make us a contender next season, either by signing talent or trading for a very good player to a team that wants cap relief.

Not saying I think that's going to happen, but it's the only scenario that makes sense to me for letting Bonzi walk.
Thats interesting- i like your point

How cruel that would be. I don't think she would test us like that in our weakened state. Everyone knows we are at our wits end for some news to break out of Kingsland. While everyone else is doing something, nothing has come out of our franchise except our Summer League undrafted guys that do look promising. We have missed the FA market, however weak it was this year to improve our team. Other teams waited for awhile too, as you could see that the FA guards out there were still available, then other teams got smart and made their other deals and didn't waste anymore time. I know we have a cuvited power guard here unlike no other, but either **** or get off the pot. :p
Jumaine Jones is still out there if we lose Bonzi and don't get a swingman back in a possible deal for him. Trevor Ariza, ditto. Wright/Cato/Kandi are all out there as decent bigs who bring what is needed in the front-court, and can be had for part of the MLE. PGs? Well, I'd say Douby or Price gets that spot, or they split time at PG. I'm intrigued if so, I like both a lot from reading about them and watching them in the summer league. But as far as more experinced PGs go, Delk proved he could still go just fine, he should of got more minutes though. I utlimately think it's one of things I mentioned with Price/Douby for back-up PG.

Well if something like this is taking THIS long, in the process hurting other deals the Kings may have brewing, you know that something isn't quite right.

I've been dreading news like this but I thought that it was inevitable.
Indeed, unless I am missing somebody, think it has been 4 years now since we retained one of our own free agents. Do miss those halcyon days when we just paid what it took and butted heads with the best.

:( Waaaaaaah!!!!!!!! I really wanted Bonzi.
I can only trust in GP now. If this is what is to come, what could he have up his sleeve?
I have read this whole thread and it does not sound like there is anything better than Bonzi out there. Could he really just not want to be here? I can't imagine that after those comments he made.

Hopefully GP has it all figured out and better things are in store for us. Unlike others, I like most of the recent trades. I am not very fond of the "throw in the towell and build for the future" concept. But if that is the case, I will still be here in a couple of years (as long as they are not in LA!!!)

While you are historically correct it's a little premature to call this one a lost opertunity. If VF21's tip is correct (they have been historically VERY accurate despite the pleasent surprise when the Whiz deal CHANGED) then the Maloofs are NOT letting a FA walk and they are NOT cutting costs... it looks like a sign and trade, which means either Bonzi would not play in Sac or wanted so much more than the Kings were willing to spend that they found a better place to put the money.

I have to say that there definalty is CLEAR limit to what I would be willing to pay Bonzi ESPCIALLY when the team HAS a young OG that can start and NEEDS a big man with cajonies up front. So depending on the deal this may well be full UP GRADE for the team. We will just have to wait and see.

I'd be conent if we kept Bonzi.

I'd also be happy if we S&T'd him for someone useful. Who that would be I don't know, but as great as Bonzi played for us last year and in the playoffs, it too often rings true that a player tapers off after getting that contract resigned again. It wouldn't be the worst thing to do to cash in on his big playoff performance and get someone to help us out.

We'll see though...

agreed

I don't get why many (in general) are expecting he'll play like he did in the playoffs. He won't for obvious reasons (one team, certain match-ups every game, 6 games). From the media stand-point, with Bonzi's contract situation, it's a dumb ignorant ploy to raise concerns and questions. When, really, Bonzi's just about always been a quality player.

Bonzi will play well like he always has excluding Memphis in 04-05. Like last season, he'll get another career-high in minutes. Bonzi is a proven starter, and a proven playoff player as well.

AMEN ^^^^^

I will say this, I can't say I'm too happy about the Maloofs being cheap like they've been with all the other free agents. Really tying GP's hands when he's forced to be under the cap like this...

Er, condused on many levels.

c) this is his last major contract -- its just about the benjamins
Now that the excitement of the season is over I wouldn't be surprised if Bonzi's thinking isn't getting a bit more rational. If he can get a starting spot on a contending team where he thinks he can be happy AND get another 10 million or so to do it, wells, that's a lot of money.

Although the suspense is killing me too I try to remember that Petrie is a chess player; he's thinking several moves ahead, and not obsessing on saving a particular piece if he thinks a trade is advantageous.

If I had to choose between Bonzi and and a quality big I think I'd go with the big. We're a lot stronger 1-3 without Bonzi than 4-5. Stretch too far for Bonzi and improving at 4-5 is much harder.

Looks like Vfs source is right. Amick pretty much said tonight that Bonzi will sign elsewhere. He doesnt think the Kings offer is good enough.

He also said dont be surprised if Darius Songalia comes back if/when Bonzi goes elsewhere.

Darius won't be coming back to the Kings. We don't need him unless Brad's gone, any other reason is just stupid. Since our front-court would be worse defensively and athletic-wise and don't need any more offense unless it's a two-way player.

Darius signed with the Wiz... Unless we're getting him back with ETAN THOMAS Kings113!
Not sure where Darius would play... unless Etan's Brad's back-up. Still, getting Darius as SAR's back-up doesn't make sense, when we need defense. 3 offensive bigs (though SAR's a good post defender, just not a good 'bounder or blocker) and 1 defensive big is not gonna do too much to improve the interior defense.

If anything, we'd need a wing player to come with Etan (Daniels or Butler).

I don't think it's true about Darius.
