Grant hints of blockbuster trade - title edited

#61
Grant said there would also be a lot of interviews for tomorrow's show. He did say that a source told him something big was going to happen. Grant and Mike seemed to be in favor of the S&T for the two Pacer players. I also thought it was funny that Mitch Richmond was on the show after a few callers that called in.

Maybe a deal with GS.. just my speculation..

If there's any truth to this at all, here's a complete wild guess of how this whole big mess could go down. This is six teams, ten players. Not totally sure if it all works salary cap wise, but it should be reasonably close.

Indiana Incoming:
Bonzi Wells (S&T)
Mickael Pietrus

Indiana Outgoing:
Jeff Foster
Sarunas Jasikevicius
Austin Croshere

Dallas Incoming:
Austin Croshere

Dallas Outgoing:
Marquis Daniels

Sacramento Outgoing:
Bonzi Wells (S&T)
Francisco Garcia

Sacramento Incoming:
Jeff Foster
Marquis Daniels

Milwaukee Outgoing:
Jamal Magloire

Milwaukee Incoming:
Troy Murphy
Francisco Garcia

Golden State Outgoing:
Troy Murphy
Mikael Pietrus

Golden State Incoming:
Al Harrington (S&T)

Atlanta Outgoing:
Al Harrington (S&T)

Atlanta Incoming:
Jamal Magloire
Sarunas Jasikevicius

I'd be for Daniels coming here and also Foster if he is good defensive big guy like people are saying. You think we can sneak Kenny Thomas in there somehow? The players involved in the trader are .... ..... .... etc etc cough KT cough... ..... :D

That's not a bad guess, but I'd probably switch Daniels and Pietrus around in that scenario. Indiana seemed to actually be trading for Daniels when that trade was announced and not only has Muss coached Pietrus (gave him decent minutes) but he was also the coach when the Warriors drafted him.

On a side note, this would be a solid trade for Atlanta if it went down. A solid center and a backup PG for Speedy, who is more of a distributer than Speedy is, good change of pace.

I'd love to get Quis Daniels... and of course Foster. Always have liked both of them a bunch. That'd be good value for Bonzi. Foster/Saras? Not near as good.

I dunno. I kind of think this is the RealGMers getting a little out of hand.
I think so, too. This pretty much happens every year...

The one I remember best, however, is all the people (including Ric Bucher) who were totally and completely convinced about Chris Webber signing with Detroit and not the Kings.

He is reliable enough to where if he says big news than there will be news. (big or whatever).
At 12:01 free agents can begin signing contracts. Grant saying something big will happen today is like predicting the sun will come up. Napear does this just about every year. Makes some vague reference to a "Big deal" and then, when something invariably happens on the first day of signing, he claims that was what he was referring to all along.

Pshaw.

To pass the time I'm going to modify this slightly based on rumors I'm hearing (and sptsjunkie's suggestion). This takes out the Croshere deal and includes a rumor that Jasikevicius might be traded to Phoenix for their trade exception:

Indiana Incoming:
Bonzi Wells (S&T)

Indiana Outgoing:
Jeff Foster
Sarunas Jasikevicius

Phoenix Incoming:
Sarunas Jasikevicius

Phoenix Outgoing:
Trade Exception ($3+ million)

Sacramento Outgoing:
Bonzi Wells (S&T)
Francisco Garcia

Sacramento Incoming:
Jeff Foster
Mickael Pietrus
Trade Exception

Milwaukee Outgoing:
Jamal Magloire

Milwaukee Incoming:
Troy Murphy
Francisco Garcia

Golden State Outgoing:
Troy Murphy
Mikael Pietrus

Golden State Incoming:
Al Harrington (S&T)

Atlanta Outgoing:
Al Harrington (S&T)

Atlanta Incoming:
Jamal Magloire

I like Pietrus. Can shoot it (should shoot a bit less though), is athletic, can play defense, long. Just doesn't seem like the smartest player sometimes, hopefully he'll improve.

All would need to do is a get another defensive big somehow.

I'd say this is another good one, except you have Jasikevicius going to both Phoenix and Atlanta.

Don't know about Grant's reliability as far as trades going on with other teams, but him and other Maloof Sports employee doing double duty at KHTK will get wind of things and start to hint and IMO sell it to the fans before and after things go down. Grant is very much a homer as to the direction the organization takes. Lamb sometimes is open with his reservations, but won't put up much of an argument and just goes along with things.

If Grant said there is a big trade going down, the Kings could possibly be involved in it. And if he and Lamb are ok with a Foster/Sarunas deal for Bonzi, we fans against such a trade should prepare to be dissapointed.

I agree. I also think that Pietrus fits into Muss' defensive schemes better than Wells or Jask. Muss wants to run and press more. Pietrus would fit great in that kind of D. However, Jask in particular doesn't seem to be a good fit. I can't see Bibby or him really pressuring the ballhandler. However, with Pietrus, Martin, Douby, Artest, Garcia (if the's not a part of this trade) , etc. the Kings would have a very fast and athletic 1-3 rotation (with Bibby as the main weakness) that could run and put a lot of pressure on the ball.

The only hints Grant will get are those the organization WANTS him to have. Petrie is like a sphinx. He's not going to say anything around Napear he wouldn't want on KHTK...

Grant is the anti-King homer during his show a lot of times. He purposefully tries to stir things up. That's what talk show hosts do. They need calls to get ratings. And the only way to get calls is to say things that make people want to respond.

If Grant said there is a big trade going down, the Kings could possibly be involved in it. And if he and Lamb are ok with a Foster/Sarunas deal for Bonzi, we fans against such a trade should prepare to be dissapointed.
Anyone could say a big trade will go down tomorrow ... or within a couple of days ... and most likely be proven true, especially if he's vague enough about any details. The talk of Foster/Sarunas for Bonzi is all over PacersDigest, too. One of their members actually called KHTK and was told Grant wasn't saying it was a done deal but that he and Mike were merely speculating about the various rumors floating around...

welcome :)

i love big trades especially if the kings are involved in it and do get a good deal...

only time will tell... if we are actually involved in this or not... or if we do get a good or bad deal if we are involved...

The Suns are on the verge of making a deal for a veteran point guard to take some of the workload off Steve Nash.Related LinksPhoenix Suns / NBA
A league source indicated Phoenix will use the remaining $3.6 million of the trade exception picked up in the Joe Johnson deal with Atlanta last summer — perhaps in concert with draft picks or players — to secure a guard to replace Eddie House as Nash’s backup. The identity of the player to be obtained was not known, but the deal could be agreed to as early as this morning.

Nash, 32, averaged a careerhigh 35.4 minutes a game last season. The two-time reigning MVP continues to be troubled by chronic back and hamstring problems.

The team passed on picking up a point guard in the draft and is looking for more size and defense than House provided last season.

NBARNS, except for the defensive part, this could validify your theory that Phoenix is the team getting Jask in a 6 team deal.

Well that took 2 seconds

And two second after my last post, RealGM updates it to this:

"East Valley Tribune - Phoenix is in discussions with the Philadelphia 76ers which would bring guard John Salmons to Arizona, the East Valley Tribune is reporting.

No deal has been struck, but league sources confirmed that Salmons is a player the
Suns have targeted. Sixers general manager Billy King is believed to be weighing more than one possible offer for the 6-foot-6, 210-pound Salmons, who scored a career-best 7.6 points to go with 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season while playing in all 82 games and starting 24.

Phoenix’s offer is believe to be a second-round draft pick and the team’s $3.6 million trade exception, obtained last summer in the
Joe Johnson trade with Atlanta. That exception expires after one year and must be used by Aug. 21. [READ]"

And now back to my Jask to Atlanta theory....

Sarunas would be a perfect fit for Suns offence. He is a great shooter, a very good passer and can really push the tempo. Sucks defensively but so do most of the Suns players.

Petrie wouldn't be the one to leak anything. You're right about him only getting hints that the organization wants him to have. That's why I wonder if this rumor is something that some one wants him to have.

Grant is the anti-King homer during his show a lot of times. He purposefully tries to stir things up. That's what talk show hosts do. They need calls to get ratings. And the only way to get calls is to say things that make people want to respond.
He is a Kings organization homer. He won't ever say anything about a situation that could put the organization in a bad light. As soon as ties are cut he will come out and say stuff. You said it best awhile back, Grant is two-faced. What he said about Bobby a few summers ago, I belive Bobby was on the block, but we wern't able to move him and it came back to bite Grant. I think he's more careful about saying things now.

Anyone could say a big trade will go down tomorrow ... or within a couple of days ... and most likely be proven true, especially if he's vague enough about any details. The talk of Foster/Sarunas for Bonzi is all over PacersDigest, too. I didn't listen to his show today, unfortunately. :( I'm just going off of what others have said. I hope it doesn't happen.

^^Good points all.

I have to wonder, however, if just once in a while someone "leaks" something to him just to have him proven wrong.

Various online sources, (including Real GM) are specualting that the BIG deal involves:
Mike Dunleavy will head to Indiana

Al Harrington will head to Golden State

Troy Murphy will head to Atlanta.
The rest of the deal is not discussed but expceted to be minor players. Does not sound like the Kings are involved.

Dunleavy to Indiana? Oh I'm sure Pacer fans can't wait for that blockbuster deal.

/dripping sarcasm

I think I'll head over to PacersDigest and see if they have anything there...

:)

Dunleavy to Indiana, would be absolute garbage for them. He's one of the most overpaid players in the league. I'd really not like him takng time away from Granger/Shawne Williams.

:D Well, if the trade involves the C's getting Iverson, thats 2 of the teams, then GS/Ind. thats 2 more...then Harrington from Atlanta, that makes 5...I doubt seriously the Kings are the 6th team...but who knows. This is just beginning to sound like a bunch of hot air, if you ask me...having NOTHING to do with the Kings...but...well...Petrie...ah, nevermind.;)
