[KINGS] Comments that don't warrant their own thread (Redux)

Monte has never said anything at a press conference worth listening to. I really don't mind either way.... I'd take that over the horrific Nico Harrison press conference.
Everyone high fiving Ham because he got mad they didn't have a presser 41 days ago. Who cares man.

Get me wins. Get me to the 2nd round of thr playoffs. I don't care how good a gm is at presser. I care about the product on the floor

he had all his picks plus a surplus of 2nds when he took over which is about the same as he has now.
His marching orders when he got here was get to the playoffs with Fox. He did that. Then burned some capital to improve the team and I think if Brown would have played more of the guys Monte brought in, not quickly moved on from anyone over 6'8 not named JaVale McGee and trusted in his promising undrafted 2-way stud perhaps Fox might have not quit so quickly. But I think Monte also got wind that Fox was gone as soon as Klutch moved in. You blame whoever for that but it was the writing on the wall. At that point once he knew keeping Fox was suspect he couldn't trade picks past 2027 despite demands that he do exactly that.

And drafting Carter makes a lot of sense once you know that Monte had already realized Fox was a goner. Everyone praised the pick as a steal but questioned the Fox fit and Monte knew it was going to be a non-issue. There was no keeping Fox here beyond 2 more years. He'd have signed the super max and then forced his way out.

Also the mic was dropped on a Brown presser after about 5 games worth of results.

so the seconds we burned on TD, Delon Wright, and the numerous seconds we sold for cash happened long before the Fox fiasco.

and if Monte was sure enough Fox was leaving to draft Carter then he should have traded him for assets leading up to the draft. One or the other has to be true.

I don't think Monte or anyone would have expected Fox to quit on the team. He did have that super max to compete for.

Jeez we had this discussion a few weeks ago but with so many players disqualified from All NBA consideration the ring was there for the taking but instead of rising to the challenge he decided he'd just pack his bags. It's clear that happened in December now.

Yep. Makes sense. Trying to salvage that thing was like parents staying together for the sake of the kids, once that was out the window it was time to move their separate ways.

Fine but Monte either strongly suspected Fox was leaving and smartly drafted Carter and dumbly didn’t trade Fox or vice versa. You want to make excuses for him in both cases

Good. That no Kings players will be bothered with that NBA bs weekend crap. Kings players could organize a company getaway. With their wives, kids, brothers and sisters, friends, dogs, cats, birds... LaVine came from Chicago. We have a mild winter, but it's still cold. JV just arrived from Washington, LaRavia from Memphis swamps. Go to some resort with nice spas. Play pick up basketball games twice a day with no coaches around. Have some good vine and other stuff with tasty meals in the evening.
Recharge physically and mentally. Improvised pre-season for the upcoming real season :)

I think he was engaged with the team during training camp because he still had hope that he could earn that Super Max that only the Kings could give him. He started off the year slow and the team was losing and there was zero momentum for Fox to make any All-NBA teams. He probably figured his chances of making the All-NBA teams would be pretty low, so he packed it in and started his plan to roll out by mid-December.

TBH, I'm glad he didn't make an All-NBA team and the Kings didn't have to pay him that monster contract. He's definitely NOT worth the Super Max and that would had been the only way he stayed.

He's not worth the regular max either. Sabonis took a set contract and not a 30% of the cap deal. Breakdown on his next 3 years is 28.2, 27.5 and 26.7% of the cap. If Fox stayed he deserved an identical contract to what Sabonis had.

To everyone's surprise (not really) the Kings are the only team in the league with 0 representatives in the All Star Weekend. I don't know if some rising star might be invited since there are a couple of them injured or they already called their replacements in the list shown below

It might end up being a decent dunk contest, but man, that sure is a star studded lineup there. NOT! Good luck NBA.

Now, that's just ridiculous. The max is the going rate for a player of Fox's proven ability.

The only thing that proves is that Sabonis is underpaid.

If winning is the objective max contracts under the new CBA are too high. It's a major issue with Zach's contract as well and the main reason he is viewed as a negative asset.

Sabonis wanted to win or be in Sacramento or both which is why he took the deal he did. I'm fine whichever the real reason is.

"Contracts are too high" sounds like the sort of value judgment that I decline to engage in. I'm never going to get on the "athletes are overpaid" train.
This is about contracts that are a moving percentage of the salary cap and not whether they deserve to make hundreds of millions. The new CBA has made these very dangerous and I predict they will not be guaranteed to the best player on the team moving forward. And my point is that at best Fox and Domas shared that honor.

Most of us (self included) were fine accepting this as the cost of doing business to retain a player we drafted and developed while at the same time very concerned that once he signed the contract the roster was going to be stuck.

Funny thing is I bet the Spurs will at least try get him to sign the same type of set price deal Domas did in the name of maintaining roster flexibility.

I am willing to stipulate that this could be a problem for the teams but that's as far as I'm willing to go with it, as I am not sympathetic to the plight of the teams.
While I agree with this general sentiment, in the era of luxury taxes and hard caps you have to be smart with your spending. It's about being able to construct a team, not about how much any individual player actually makes.

If this were baseball, pay all the Kings $100 mil a year each. I don't care. It's not my money. But you just can't do that and actually build a team.

whoa. We need to defenders but I guess there’s not enough minutes for him?
It's an awkward rotation to try to get Devin any meaningful minutes. I think this shows they are not comfy with him being a "true" point guard at this point since we have no real backup PG on the roster otherwise. Better to get him 30 min in Stockton vs. 5 mins a game at this point. Feels like he needs to get comfortable again on offense and probably needs an offseason and training camp to fairly evaluate him.
