This is just... so embarrassing. Pelinka really worked that "we have history" angle with Harrison and completely conned him in the process. Nico may never take another call from Pelinka again once he wakes up to how badly he got abused here. And the most embarrassing part of it all is that he seems to have no idea how hard he just took it in the teeth. These quotes... how does a guy like that get a job leading an NBA front office?
Like Nico and possibly new Mavs owner - lots of speculation going on about their motives - are idiots but his current calf injury is kind of a big deal, right? It's a precursor to an Achilles and this isn't the first time it's happened.

I still think Brandon Williams was the one who pushed for Marvin but I'm sure Vlade had some concerns about Luka that may actually be real. Not real enough to not draft him or real enough to trade him for pennies on the dollar after he's proven himself. Luka does actually have to address his fitness though.

I don't know, I think this deal sucks but I would again like to point out that Luka is at a crossroads with his career. The injury concerns are real. It's just that they took back an older guy who has his own injury issues and makes the same contract they don't want to pay Luka.
But again these calf injuries are serious precursors to Achilles injuries. We're laughing about it with the assumption that Luka is healthy but he hasn't given a crap about his fitness in his 6.5 seasons in the league.

I have noted many times that the deal was complicated by the fact that we had that Casspi/Hickson pick hanging over our heads - which I have used often to note we should not deal protected picks out that way - but the fundamental problem was the miscalculation that we would be an attractive FA destination. The only way Sacramento can legitimately build talent is through the draft and we are too loosey goosey with draft capital.
