De'Aaron Fox Traded to Spurs for Zach Lavine, three first round picks

Very well said….bloody and graphic, but well said.

For the position we found ourselves in, with our immediate goals, I’m happy where we came out. At least I can get back to trying to enjoy the play on the court.
Truly, I’m thankful we didn’t let this slide beyond 1-3 over the last 4 games or whatever it is. We’re very lucky that Dallas is clearly involved in some sort of collusion and has been losing along with the Dubs and Wolves.

well I’m good with the days events. I have been a fan of LaVine since his UCLA days, thought he should have gone higher in that draft. Also was really hoping Vlade could have signed him here when he tried. Just needs to stay healthy and expect some exciting chemistry between him and Domas.
Like everyone here hope the Kings aren’t done and some of that so so acquired draft capital helps net us another defensive big.
Glad the Fox drama is over, wasn’t really interested in helping him or San Antonio out and not thrilled how little they gave up to get him. All the best to Hueter in his new surrounds but thankful he’s gone.

I'm still trying to digest that, in the past 48 hours, the Lakers landed #77 for the 32 year old, made-of-glass Anthony Davis while the 27 yo De'Aaron Fox only netted the KINGS Zach Lavine and 2 mid FRP's.

Accepting the above is gonna take a little long while....
I'll go to my grave believing there was collusion of some kind to get Luka in LA. The Mavs GM admitting that he only talked to the Lakers as well reinforces that belief.

This trade sucks. The Kings sent Fox to the Spurs and let the Spurs keep:

- Devin Vassell
- Stephon Castle
- The Kings 2031 pick swap
- Both Atlanta picks

They should have at least pushed to get Castle and the Kings' 2031 pick swap back, in addition to what they got.
i hear you but Lavine is better than both of those guys and likely will be for the next 2 years. Kings want to win now and have future assets. kings didn’t have enough leverage thanks to Klutch so they got the best deal they could. I do agree they should have got the swap back though

My understanding of the rule is a Yes. Cam makes 22.5m vs kings: 10.5m cap space+ Lyle+Jones+Doug(13.5m total) = 24M. We are allowed to take back 200% of outgoing salary.
200%? No way that can't be right. The Kings are still over the cap, just not the tax. It's going to be hard to match salary that high and I would seriously hope that Monte doesn't swing for any major money deals this quickly. Wait and see what's needed.

I think we can take the outgoing salary +7.5m. The 200% is up to 7.5m. We probably need to add crowder in to match Cam Johnson.

Since the league (and agents) are placing players where they want AND overtly trying hard to get LeFraud James another title — along with desperately trying to remain relevant and competitive with the NFL and MLB — does anybody else see the potential for Steph Curry ending up in LA next?

The Lakeshow desperately wants to avoid playing 2nd fiddle to the Dodgers for the next 5-10 years and adding Steph gives the NBA the storyline of James and Curry getting their 5th titles together, along with further building up #77‘s name.

I can totally see it happening.

A simultaneously trade exception allows us to go $7.5M over the outgoing salary for someone who makes in Huerter’s range. So if we use the exception as part of this trade, it is actually worth $24.2M (16.7 for huerter and 7.5 for simultaneous use).

Yeah, but that if it's a part of this trade right? So it's not like the Kings exception is worth 24 million now. Just they can absorb the difference?

yeah- if it isn’t part of this trade it loses the extra value. So they have 3 days to expand the trade. While they could acquire Cam, I’m thinking they probably use it to target a few smaller pieces, given that we really only have 8 playable guys, and one of them is Carter. Maybe break up the TPE and use some of the seconds to grab Jonas and Caleb Martin, or Time Lord and Thybulle. Keep your main powder dry until the offseason after you see how this looks.

Sigh,

Lavine has had a good (healthy) year, but we seem to be locked up in his contract until '27, he plays a mere 60 games a year (in a good year), and is days away from being on the wrong side of 30. I guess when he breaks down, those who are inclined to vent can blame cruel fate instead of the front office, but this is taking two of our toxic assets (Fox and Huerter) and consolidating them into one. This is like the inverse of the Webber "easily movable pieces" trade.

Welcome to the new Kenny Thomas era

I don’t see how keeping DeRozan with this new core makes much sense. We desperately need some defense on the wing/forward with Monk & LaVine locked in as our starting guards and Sabonis locked in as our starting C.

We can throw around DeRozan’s contract and add a package like Cam Johnson/Day’Ron Sharpe, De’Andre Hunter/Larry Nance, etc. and the. Use our TPE to trade for a guy like PJ Washington m, Dorian Finney-Smith (maybe LAL would reroute him for a C with Davis being sent out), Bobby Portis, etc.

That would leave us with a rotation of…

PG - Monk / Carter
SG - LaVine / Ellis / Jones
SF - Johnson / Washington / McDermott / Cissoko
PF - Murray / Lyles / Crowder
C - Sabonis / Sharpe / Len

For what it’s worth, that roster has a lot of shooting and some decent defensive pieces to try and keep us afloat on that end of the floor.

Or maybe you take a big swing and look to bring Zion here. However, I think you’d have to at least move Monk back to the bench. Otherwise, you’re stuck with 4 not so great defenders in the starting lineup again (Monk, LaVine, Zion, & Sabonis).

I know he might be out for the rest of the season, but to take it a step further, maybe you open up the war chest of picks and try and get both Zion and Herb Jones (with Monk moving back to the bench)? Then you start LaVine, Zion, & Sabonis with 2 of Jones, Murray, & Ellis. The defense may actually be pretty passable considering Jones and Ellis are elite, defensive play makers, Murray is a good/great defender, and Carter has the potential to be an elite defender. Pair that defense with the offensive firepower of Monk, LaVine, Zion, & Sabonis, and maybe you strike gold?

I do like the offensive hierarchy of that core though…
  • Zion can be a #1 option on a great team
  • Lavine as a #2 option is much more acceptable
  • Sabonis as a #3 option is an ideal role for him as he’s not the best go-to scorer and looks to facilitate first
  • Monk as a 6th man scorer/playmaker is his ideal role IMO

DeRozan def gone too, no way they’re rolling the LaVine-DeRozan combo again
I do think there's a chance DeRozan may go, but I don't understand the knee jerk reaction against this. But then again I spend more time looking for interesting wines in Argentina and Amador County than I do understanding the non-Kings NBA.

You know one thing DeRozan hasn't done? Quit on us. He's a solid dude and solid teammate. Not sure why some are so interested in moving him.
