De'Aaron Fox Traded to Spurs for Zach Lavine, three first round picks

I wanted help in the front court. Cidy is averaging a whole 3.2 minutes a game and 1.3 pts a game. Some of you complained about Smith.

this trade does nothing to improve our currently poor defense which just got worse, does not balance our roster in any way, nor does it provide any near term draft help.

But of course you all would cheer any deal Monte makes.
I'm not a fan of the trade either. Lavine was considered one of the worst if not THE worst contract in the NBA as recently as last season, and we get him + 3 non-lotto FRPs.

Spurs fleeced us. SA probably offered Monte a FO position after Vivek invariably fires him next year.

Teams are gonna average 150 on us, but at least we're reuniting a duo that couldn't even win in the Eastern conference.

So as it stands right now, we look about like this:

Monk/Carter
LaVine/Ellis
DeRozan
Murray/Lyles
Sabonis

With Len, Cissoko, Colby, McDermott, and Crowder on the bench, and Isaac, Mason, and Crawford on two-ways

We definitely have room to elevate Isaac if we don't do anything else and the top eight in the lineup seem pretty obvious. I'm not really sure if Cissoko is going to be worth anything or not, but he's got another year on his deal for us to figure that out.
I mean we could just start playing Crowder. He's not a cheerleader

Spurs won this deal though. Crazy they kept their young guys and still lots of picks … Spurs should make another move now, can easily get John Collins for Barnes or Johnson for a pick or 2. Fox-Castle-Vassell-Collins-Wemby starting 5 pretty legit & can grow together.
Unfortunately this.

Prior to today their fans were damn near gloating, “we won’t have to give up any of our guys cause it’s the kings.” Made me mad seeing that and lo and behold, they were right. Just feels like this franchise will forever be the doormat.
Que sera sera……….

That Minnesota one is far off but considering how things have turn in Minny, Ant might not even be around that year and the pick could be good.

Stop. Any deal Monte made was a losing proposition for you. You’ve already made that clear over the last few years.

The fact of the matter is Fox handcuffed any deal by making it known he was ONLY going to San Antonio. No team was going to give up any real assets for a year and a half of broken hand Fox to get nothing in return. I love Fox, hell I bought 3 colorways of his signature shoe, but I don’t believe we had a lot of options. Certainly your Houston proposal was never on the table. I will ask you this, If Monte swings some of the draft capital for a wing like Cam Johnson does it make the trade more acceptable to you? When are you going to talk to your “buddy” to find out what Monte turned down for Fox so you can tell us how bad a GM he is?

Kings get a pretty big TPE.

Man, I dunno. I'm glad we at least got to see a sample of LaVine being healthy and good this year, because I'd been SO against him the previous couple seasons. I think this just got to the point where we were forced to take what we could get because Fox forced his way to SA and the rest of the league knew it. And he's just not at the level where a team will strip their assets to take that risk. The little nugget that the entire league knew he was going to SA, if he didn't get the All-NBA tag, is just ****ing heart-breaking to hear tbh. So we were just screwed either way.

I give it like 5.5/10. We didn't get fleeced, but we should have done significantly better as the team trading the best player in the deal. Context I think got in the way of that.

The KINGS surrendered to the demands of terrorists, plain and simple.

Now we’ve got Morgan Reagan spinning things talking about how great it is that ”good people” got to go where they wanted to go. SMH. GTHOH.

I’ve been a Morgan fan for a while, but that is as terrible a take as there is. Let’s just survey all the team’s players and graciously send them wherever they want to be too. Let’s lobby to the NBA and all these other pro sports to terminate the draft process so everyone can go wherever they want and so SAC will no longer be able to field a team since most everyone wants to be in one of like 6 different locations.

The NBA is supposed to be a business. And the KiNGS are supposed to be prioritizing their own best interests, not best interests of the assets they are sending away.

My guess is that Morgan has befriended Mrs. De’Aaron Fox over the years and is speaking from a biased friend POV rather than from an objective journalist POV.

Sad.

we dropped in salary with this, do you know where we are on that?
Spotrac is currently giving us $14M in space under the tax, but they don't have Cissoko on the team yet for some reason, he's making just under $2M. I'm not 100% sure on their numbers right now, and Zach does have a 15% trade kicker that could bump him another $6M or so.

There's really no point in Keegan Murray exerting any effort on defense. If the other 4 players on the court with him are Lavine, Monk, DeRozan, and Sabonis then teams are going to be able to do what they want anyway. He might as well let players just get by him since that's what the others will be doing.
Il not sure if you’re being sarcastic but that’s actually true

I would agree on the part about not balancing the roster and that defense didn't get better( didn't get worse either, Fox was atrocious defensively this year imo). But only if Monte doesn't make any moves to address those things, he still has time, let's wait before complaining
Fox was at peak 2 seasons ago. It has gone down hill since. Averages more points but takes way more shots.

Vassell’s deal sorta overtook Lavine’s as ”Worst contract in the league” this season and people were literally angry about us potentially getting Keldon two days ago lmao
Keldon sucks, what the hell is Matt George going on about? I'd also take LaVine over Vassell any day of the week.

Beal has the worst contract in the league and it's not close

She's a team employee. Team employees don't get to rip the star player on the way out, even if the star player DID knife us in the back. That's the business.

I am actually suprised we didn’t get one of these guys they said they wouldn’t trade.

I had to take one peek over at their fan forum. Yeah, they are laughing at us. It’s kinda maddening…….

and you are going to get even fewer minutes for Keon now with Lavine playing in front of him….

this team needed to do the following and got none of them done with this trade:
  • Get Longer
  • Balance minutes front court to back court
  • Get better defensively
