Amick: De’Aaron Fox requests trade

This. No way in hell would he be playing at all. If he isn’t traded by the deadline I’d bet he has surgery on his hand effectively killing his value. Hell, I don’t know what surgery would do to the trade timeline or if it would even hurt his value. What would happen if that went down?
If the Spurs want him it's a long term issue, not a deadline one. The amount of players that had their career ended due to fingers is..... NONE.

Vivek's desperation meeting with Fox gives me a bad feeling. Now I think the deadline is going to pass with Fox still here but sulk turned up to 11, while Klutch leaks all the amazing deals Vivek veto'd to make the FO look bad.
I hope Vivek does what any parent does when their kid Fs up beyond repair and says "Son, I'm not mad, I'm disappointed. You've let this team and your family down. We'll go ahead and trade you, take the rest of the week off."

Sports are supposed to be fun or at least entertaining. Radio is insufferable. Twitter is insufferable. Podcasts are insufferable. At least this forum is relatively decent. Just no fun to be a fan right now
Hey, I really enjoy all the knowledgeable posters on this forum. It's the best one I have been on since I followed the Toronto Raptors on Yahoo ten years ago. Plus the moderators keep it decent.

I know some people think we could have done more or didn't do enough but we gave Fox every chance to be the shining star of this franchise and for this to happen now is just the biggest stab in the heart. He could have given it his all, signed an extension, and asked to be traded if we didn't reach the second round or WCF in 2 years but this happened. He has undone everything I ever felt about him.

If half the teams have inquired at least one has to be delulu enough to think they can get him to sign an extension and offer us something dumb. That's all it should take to get the godfather offer from San Antonio unless they just aren't even into him.
I don’t think it’s delusional fox that fox will resign wherever we trade him. He isn’t leaving money on the table and spurs won’t wait for a part time all star they’ll grab someone by the time Fox allegedly hits FA.

Agree with everything you say here.

WRT the bolded portion, I'll keep reiterating the same thing. Not reaching the 2nd round or higher isn't an indictment on the franchise, it's an indictment on De'Aaron Fox. He's supposed to the franchise player. They gave him the 2nd contract then surrounded him with Keegan, Malik, HB, Sabonis, and now Deebo, yet he hasn't elevated the team.

That's squarely on him, no one else.

If he couldn't elevate this roster beyond first round or play-in game and out -- how's he going to elevate the Spurs? They're several games behind the KINGS in the standings.

If the Spurs make a jump with De'Aaron on the team it'll be due to Wemby taking steps or a couple of their current role players taking steps. It won't be because they now have #5.

I mean this will probably be the dinner, and that's fine.

I'm more afraid of what Vivek does in the days AFTER the dinner when Monte shows him the best offers. Him begging Fox to stay shows a certain level of denial, and historically Vivek did have a big part in messing up the Boogie trade (as if Vlade needed any help in doing a horrible job).

But this is just me being afraid of my own fan fiction at the moment, and I can admit that (while still being afraid)!

Well we put him next to an All NBA 5, a future HOF wing/closer, a friend of his from college who is also very good, and a number 4 pick + undrafted gem that together are good enough to give the us a top 10 defence despite Fox and friends disinterest on that side of the ball. There will be arguments about whether these were exactly the right moves but the team is as talented as it's been in 20+ years.
