Stockton Kings 2024-2025 Open Thread

Let the guy develop more to his game. He needs to come a long way to be able to play adequate defense at the NBA level and he's probably going to need a lot more to his game than post up moves to be successful as well.

Shout out to Crawford as well. Shooting over 50% from 3.

Crawford has some ball skills too. I think he has a legit shot to earn regular NBA playing time at some point

This summer league is hopefully the same kind the Kings have had in the past couple of years. Like with Keon's ascension to legit rotation player and Keegan getting his feet wet. Carter, Isaac, and Crawford could have a great opportunity. Big strides in summer have helped the Kings development without question.

We need more second rounders
Monte has had 8 second-round picks on draft night so far, and he has traded 4 of them away in draft-day trades. And of the 4 seconds Monte did draft, none have stuck so far, and only Queta/Colby have a shot of carving out a career.

Of a possible 7 future seconds, he has already shipped off 4, so we've got a whole 3 left in the till for the next 7 years. Yet we've got Keon Ellis in our rotation and maybe a guy like Isaac Jones or Isaiah Crawford makes some noise in the future. We may be better off relying more heavily on UDFAs than second-rounders in the Monte era.

Honestly, I'd much rather see Monte turn our second rounders into mid to late first rounders, and rely on UDFAs, as Capt. suggested above, to pick up who would've otherwise been our second round picks.

It does seem just as likely you’ll find a good player in the undrafted class than the second round after 31-40.

I don’t mind that the Kings don’t pick often in the second round as much as I mind that they have burned up their entire second round draft stock for no real benefit to the roster.

Teams deplete 5 years worth of second rounders acquiring role players to fill out the roster. Kings burned about half of it just dumping Mitchell, Sasha, and later the player they got in that dump just to stay below the luxury tax.

.
That’s likely the way it is for small market teams unless we get to contending status. Can’t blame Vivek given it’s 19 million dollars on the line.

Some of those second rounders were needed to get Deebo and give us enough wiggle room to make a trade this deadline. Plus we will have 4 second rounders to trade this offseason (unless we end up in the top 12 of the draft)

That dump was required to acquire DDR. It wasn't just for the luxury tax.
