Suns trade an unprotected 2031 first rounder to the Jazz for THREE first rounders?
Ainge doing favors again like he did for the Lakers?
It's a low stakes gamble by the Jazz that the Suns will be awful in 2031. For every pick, the Suns get the least favorable pick between 2 or 3 teams, while the Suns pick is unprotected.
2025 - least favorable between the Cavaliers and Timberwolves. Today the Cavs pick would be #30 in this year's draft
2027 - least favorable between the Cavs, Wolves, and Jazz. The Cavs will likely still be very good then
2029 - least favorable between the Cavs, Wolves, and Jazz. You have to imagine at least one of those teams will have a pick in the mid to late 20s
Meanwhile, the Suns pick could be a high lottery pick. So definitely Ainge rolling the dice a bit while hedging his bets.
Not to mention, what would the Jazz even do with all 8 of those picks in the next three years? This way they'll keep the higher ones but not have to try and find roster spots for an additional three first rounders in the meantime.
