How do we know that? Because it certainly didn’t matter the one time we actually made the playoffs.
It mattered right up until he injured his shooting hand. Domas has improved a lot as an all-around offensive threat since then though, so maybe it matters less now? I can see Domas, Malik, Keegan, and DeMar being able to carry the load offensively. If Fox does get traded, the goal should be to get better defensively not to add another top 20 scorer.

Be reasonable hrd, Domas getting his chest stomped on and Fox breaking his finger had NO impact on the last 3 games of that series

Hall of Famer
If or when Fox gets traded, I don’t think anyone should feel like the window has closed for playoff hopes. Fox is good. Sometimes he’s great. He’s also sometimes aloof. He’s also a very inconsistent 3 point shooter that I think needs to actually lead this team to a playoff series win. I’ve always backed him up until the Klutch Puppet press conference and I do not like how this thing went down with Brown. But I also don’t know how any player or who was involved in quitting on a coach. That stuff never ever rides well with me.

Fox is going to be making a tremendous amount of money. He’s got to deliver playoff series wins or he is not worth the salary. I think we get a chance to retool with some very good pieces before Klutch screws us.

That trade established market value. We should not accept far below market value just because we're the Kings.
I think the Murray trade is a better comp.

Jul 06, 2024 - Traded to New Orleans (NOP) from Atlanta (ATL) for Larry Nance Jr., 2025 1st round pick [LAL pick] , 2027 1st round pick [least favorable of MIL/NOP pick, Top-4 protected] , Dyson Daniels, E.J. Liddell and Cody Zeller

Let’s compare my proposal
Smith Jr > Larry Nance Jr
2027 PHX > 2025 Laker pick
Isaac > Zeller

that leaves Dyson Daniels and the 2025 1st round pick [LAL pick] , 2027 1st round pick [least favorable of MIL/NOP pick, Top-4 protected]

You could argue Houston should add Reed Sheppard and another pick. But that is a reasonable comp.

Another comp is the Kyrie trade to Boston.

guard Isaiah Thomas, forward Jae Crowder, center Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets' unprotected 2018 first-round pick.

Smith > Crowder
Isaac > Zizic
PHX 2027 = Nets 2018 (Sexton)
Thomas = ????

again this comp would indicate Houston should include Reed.

A third comp is the Jru Holiday trade

Smith > Malcolm Brogdon
Isaac = Robert Williams
2027 PHX > 2024 1st-round pick (via Warriors)
2029 unprotected 1st-round pick (via Celtics)

in this case you would either add Reed or a Houston pick to the deal.

I think these three trades are a pretty good set of comps for that type and quality of player.

Kyrie, despite a better resume than Fox, didn’t return Brown or Tatum

Murray returned a 6’ 7” guard averaging 5 points a game and not Ingram, Jones or Murphy.

Holiday, despite a better resume, returned Brogdan and an injured Williams.

you could reasonably expect to add Reed and maybe a Houston 1st for Fox to my trade but my trade is far closer to other Comps than this board would lead you to believe.

Guards just bring less in trade than forwards which is why you don’t stack them up.

Houston seems to be by far the best trading partner considering they a flushed at the position with really nice pieces Kings lack the most.

Fans of every team tend to overvalue what kind of haul they imagine getting back for one of their best players.Sometimes it materializes but more often than not the return is underwhelming

The Nets are trying to get two first round picks for Cam Johnson and you’re all out here willing to take a couple of rotation pieces and maybe one protected pick for a guy who’s probably getting All-NBA by default this season.
the best offer for Cam is from us and I’m not sure it makes us better

Lyles, Huerter and a 1st for Cam.

depends on what year. And btw I’m not exactly underrating Fox.
  • A 21 year old 6’ 10” wing who is still maturing
  • a probable lottery pick in the Suns pick
  • A back up center switchable 2-5 and can block shots
Is hardly a bad return.
Jabari's not like really a wing though. He's like a more "traditional small-ball 4" that can swing to the 5. Can't say I watch a ton of Hou, but I pretty much never recall him ever running around guarding on the perimeter like Keegan does.

He'd certainly be an awesome fit next to Keegan and Domas, but I think it's funny you're willing to call him a "wing" when he's actually a 4/5 flex.

I am pretty sure there is no way on earth with all the people who have already been excluded from the regular season awards that Fox doesn't make 3rd team all NBA and thus qualify for the super max, so unless the team says "sorry, we aren't going to pay you that" (which I think they would just as soon trade him before he makes a request instead of saying that) we can probably kick this can down for 2-3 seasons now.

OR a team can put up a beast offer right now. And I think we'd have to consider the best one if we had 2-3 of them come in.

This notion of losing him in a less than great trade is probably ~2028 or beyond.

fair point. Although I think he is more wing like at his current weight. Might change as he matures and adds man muscle. He is still just 21

This is going to sound like I’m dissing Jabari (I’m not) but it’s probably best to think of him as a supercharged Trey Lyles. He can maybe play a bit on the wing but he’s best served as a 4/5.
