Malik just doesn’t look right right now either. He’s not moving well laterally, just sorta walking the ball up the court, and doesn’t seem to have consistent push on his shots. Some guys just aren’t meant to play starters minutes and that’s okay.
I had not thought of that. I do notice that since the knee injury last spring, he no longer jumps as high. He is working really hard on defense, though.

Both Fox and Monk gamble way too much IMO. Slide your feet and keep your man in front of you is much more effective than going for the high risk play. Im
not sure if that’s on coaching instructing them, or if they leave it up to the players to make that read. Either way it’s reason enough to not want to build around those 2 in the backcourt in my opinion.
I'm not sure what Browns deal is on Monk. Brown gets all over other guards when they go under the screen or play over the backside of the ball handler like that. Maybe he does know Monk isn't 100% so getting "skinny" isn't an option. Who knows. Later in the game Brown even went to a zone to cover it up. One thing that did work was when Monks guard was setting up, Monk just switched out and Fox took the ball handler off the screen. That actually allows Monk to kind of roam and get a block, or deflection.

What’s the real reason Keon is being treated this way? He was almost a huge reason we could’ve won that Denver game and now it seems like everything is going to hell smh i don’t wanna let this team go yet. Not everyone at least.
I assumed he was injured but he looked sharp enough when he finally came in. Banishing him to garbage time minutes is pretty unforgivable. Especially when he’s been one of the few bright spots in terms of roster development last 2 years. Can’t imagine he’s super excited about re-signing here if this continues

I gotta be honest this team has many problems. From the front office to the coaching staff to the mix of players on the court. I’m pretty confident that Monty won’t make a colossal mistake, but I’m not confident that he can blow this up and build a long-term contender.

If we do trade fox, it won't be for another pg. I don't believe we drafted a pg for no reason. "If" we trade fox I'm thinking a PF or SG.

That would balance out our roster. I'm a fan of fox, but this whole, I'll sign if I like what I see crap has never worked out for any franchise of memory. Franchise always over extends and ends up losing the player and the future.

Keon didn't play until garbage time, when they were down by ~30. I don't know man
I get everyone wants to focus on their one individual issue, but 30+ MPG of Keon isn't saving this team. A rotation player trade (Jval/Cam Johnson/DFS) isn't saving this team. I think it's just done; team has quit on Brown and possibly on each other. What made the Beam team so fun is we legitimately looked like a TEAM out there. Guys were playing for each other, we were passing the rock around like the Golden era Kings, guys weren't sitting around ball watching. We did not quit on a single game that year, even if we were down big. Virtually every time we'd storm back and at least make it a game. That's the sort of squad you loved to spend 3 hours a night watching.

That team is just gone. We saw signs last year of that joy the 22-23 team had start to dissipate and there's just none of that anymore. We don't play with fire, we aren't flying up and down the court, running teams out of the gym. We don't pass the ball nearly as much. Everything that led to our breakout is gone.

If they have given up or have lost trust, maybe part of that is how certain players and the rotation in general have been handled.

We the fans lose respect and doubt a coach when we see this. Imagine what the players and coaches are potentially thinking. Imagine what someone like Doug Christie is thinking, sitting there watching the impact that Keon makes regularly.....and then Brown not playing him

Why would you assume that Christie disagrees with Brown? He's been on his staff for years, it'd make more sense that he's far more aligned with him than not.

The hero casting on Christie is weird. I don't get why fans just automatically think he'd be a great coach when we've already gotten burned by a Kings legend in a higher up capacity.

The beam team also had significant flaws. It was just so much fun that I didn’t care. There are many issues with this team and the way it’s constructed. The Deebo move was made to try to grow up however it’s cause stagnation and we’ve lost all our fun.
Yeah, the team topped out and it was before teams started to load up in the West. It is what it is. The Kings offense had to change, the defense had to change. And now the defense really has to change. This game tonight was embarrassing. The Pacers and other teams are literally just saying OK, we'll get those corner 3's. The Pacers shot 7-11 from there tonight and were gobbling up that space all game working that pick and roll into the draw and kick and swing out.

The only thing I can say is in summer league Christie didn't run anything close to this kind of defense. His system was more in line with what you see out of modern teams where you ball hawk and pressure. And c'mon now, DC has been earning his way and putting in the work for awhile now. Totally different scenarios. Because Vlade was a bad GM or not has nothing to do with anyone else unless DC had zero coaching experience which isn't the case.

You honestly think that Christie doesn't think that Keon should play regular rotation minutes? It's one example of a problem and things not making sense, not the end all solution to the team not being good enough.

The point is not advocating for him to be the head coach,....it's that an experienced NBA good defensive player sitting there watching this and likely having a different opinion on how to use the players.

If you think all the assistants agree with the head coaches decisions all the time, you are wrong. I can guarantee that Jordi Fernandez wouldn't have always handled things the same way Brown did/does

Carter isn’t a PG

How should I know what Christie wants or doesn't want? Just the corollary of "CHRISTIE A DEFENSIVE, GUARD, KEON DEFENSIVE GUARD=CHRISTIE LOVE KEON" doesn't fly as an explanation.

Now if Brown got fired, Christie took interim duties and started playing Keon 30 MPG; sure, I'll eat my crow and you can shove it down my throat. But at least there'd be some proof to Christie having that thought other than you just wishing it to be so because we like Christie as a Kings legend.

I’m not sure Doug is of head coach timber. If he was I think he would’ve been chosen after Walton/Gentry. They did do test runs with him that I don’t think were result dependent but to see if he had any special knack to reach players, manage rotations and strategy and I’m not sure he impressed.

He hasn’t moved up the chain significantly as an assistant either since lousy Luke Louks replaced Jordie as “defensive coordinator”

I think he would do more full court presses but moving from Mike Brown to Christie solely because that guy was a popular King associated with good defense is just bad organization stuff.

Mike Brown is NOT the problem. He is cornered with an incomplete deck of cards. He has no more buttons to push on his own. Any coach would eventually fall into the same trap.

Monte has his work cut out for him to save all their jobs. Hopefully he can lift the bat off his shoulder.

The point is that you, me, and most everyone else thinks it's really strange how they've handled his playing time, considering that just about every advanced stat indicates that they have a better chance to win when he plays.

Pick any example you want to express that.

Keon by himself doesn’t save the team but it’s hard to say there wouldn’t be different results if we were playing him. And it’s just such a nonsense move not to that I think it exemplifies a problem with this team that’s clearly from the coaching staff or FO.

ball movement and pace are also something that fall to the coaching staff first IMO. We have the roster to do it, lack of consistent execution can’t be put on the players alone. It’s the coaching staff’s job to make sure those things are being done
