I have a hard time endorsing this strategy when the Kings go 1 for 13 from three in a single quarter like they did in the 3rd tonight. That 8-0 run to finish the third which made this a game again was all 2pt shots and free throws. Giving away 12 possessions in a quarter is just self-inflicted punishment. I wish they would pull themselves out of these 3pt shooting death spirals sooner by trying something else. Anything else.
And some of the 3's aren't exactly genius ones either. They're lazy. A guard jab stepping two steps beyond the 3 point line and swinging over to Keegan for 3 is hardly offense. It's usually deemed generic and lazy.

Yeah, the next thing to figure out is how they can get Fox, Domas, DDR, and Monk going at the same time. In time I think it is going to be a thing where you can stagger them and run that Domas/Monk pick and roll as your offense with DDR and Fox off the floor. I'm not sure pushing Fox back to more off the ball is going to end up better than it has since day 1 when Vlade signed vet PG's and pushed him out of position.
Huh? Fox took 23 shots. I wouldn't call that "moving him off ball"
No dog in this fight, but "off the ball" usually means that the player in question is not a primary ball handler in the offense. It is not a reflection on how many touches or shots the player gets.

This is why I get frustrated. Huerter had a horrible shooting game, of course. Call out the whole story, the 1-14 from Fox/Keegan equally cost us this game too.
Huerter *continues* to have horrible games though.

At least Keegan is a defender now … so it’s kind of passable (though he’s losing more and more goodwill as the struggles become his new normal); and Fox will have games from time to time where he just isn’t it offensively, it happens to everyone.

Yeah, this is what drives me crazy. We've seen this team look unstoppable on offense for long stretches and then come up empty for equally long stretches. I just don't get what the game plan is here. If the ball is moving and shooters are open you live with the misses but when they just let fly from the perimeter without doing anything to make the defense work first that's basically an unforced turnover.

Defense was absolutely not the issue tonight though. Sure you could make the argument that Keon would hopefully have accidentally hit a three or two but he’s also had struggles playing in the flow of the offense throughout his last two seasons as well
I didn't say Defense was the issue I'm saying Ellis is the better player offensively and defensively and the numbers back it up. Plus you can never have too much defense

This whole season has come down to shooting poorly from three. You can’t be competitive in the NBA unless you can shoot average or better from 3 (unless you have a great defense, which the Kings don’t). Keegan and Huerter simply need to shoot better. Other guys do too, but they’re the main culprits.
I think this is a good summation of the season but we lost tonight because guys missed shots they normally make from close range. Keegan included, Fox had 2-3, I think DDR had plenty. Even with the lousy 3pt shooting in the 3rd they actually built a lead before they blew it.

The thing to watch is what happens if and when the market for Huerter is as bare as it has been for a year and a half now. Another year, another report of the Kings looking to move him. This certainly feels like waiting for that ball to drop again. Huerter played pretty good defense tonight though.

22.9% from three…yikes. If we shot 28.6% from three, we win this game with little doubt…28.6%! You can still win if you have a bad shooting night, but if you’re absolutely abysmal from three, that makes life reallll difficult. We desperately need our supporting guys (mainly Murray and Huerter) to hit at least a couple shots.

Also, we had 18 more FGAs than Memphis and still lost. That’s pretty crazy.

Hell, its a different game if we hit ONE more three tonight.

Also in hindsight, Mike challenging the Scottie Pippen foul kinda boned us because he didn’t have a challenge left for the Sabonis sandwich foul despite winning both challenges tonight.
He'll have another 2 minute report to keep him cozy at least, lol. Gosh, the fact that something that egregious has to be challenged is just a joke.

You see what you want to see. Huerter has played excellent defense all season too (and tonight). Not Keegan level, but he's been strong on that end.

Doesn't excuse the shooting. But the Huerter brigade doesn't like him so they put all the blame for losing the game when he's bad on him. Rather than what actually happened on the floor.

It's weird man. Brown isn't exactly helping them win games. He's even inserting McLaughlin at times, before Keon at this point.
Ellis played all of two minutes in this game and was +5, for what it's worth. As I wrote earlier, not playing him when the Kings have a double-digit lead is almost unfathomable. And that goes double when Huerter goes 0-6 from three and Murray 1-7, because Keon is a better shooter from beyond the arc right now than either of those guys.

Is Mike Brown trying to win games or score personnel points?

The team played pretty good defense tonight. And got second chances, the shot totals seem to reflect that. I know we're lasered on 3pt but this was one where we just needed to make 2 more in the paint.
