missing the playoffs is certainly on the table but we were 24 games over .500 the past 2 seasons with largely the same core and 8-6 through 14 games this season. We were top 8 in offense and top 12 in defense during the beginning stretch. That’s a pretty big sample size collectively versus the 1-5 stretch we are currently on. The offense of Keegan, Huerter and to a lesser extent Keon plus the injuries to important pieces can largely be blamed for this bad stretch. The problem is how do we fix it? If Kev is out and Keegan can’t snap out of it, what do we do?
One thing might be to stop expecting Keegan to be the teams Scottie Pippen every night. Make these other guys start pressing up and challenging like the Blazers did. Rather than waiting for almost every other team under their basket or beyond the half court line, press full court. Change it up a little. Now the problem is the Kings obviously aren't chalk full of defenders. Monk is pretty bad at times. He has the athletic ability to stay with guys but man he gets lost a lot. Not a ton of defensive awareness. Domas can't really protect the rim so once the outer band of defense is broken he's likely toast or fouling. DeRozan has played with effort this year but how long can he last? His back is already hurting. Gotta remember there's a lot of wear and tear on that dude. Although his game lends itself to lasting since he's had an old mans game for a long time now. Even Keon isn't someone that you can really switch up a bunch since he's like 170 pounds. This is why it's insane to me that Brown isn't using more pressure since that typically aids the smaller, quicker player. If the pressure doesn't work, THEN switch up. Brown is doing things backwards. He's the type of coach that will start with a zone rather than resort to it when need be.

I may be wrong but I believe he tore his achilles or something of that nature. Probably not the same athlete he was if no one has picked him up.
I think he tore it working out after we let him go.

He had a domestic assault case before we picked him up and I wonder if off court things kept him from another contract?

Tough remaining schedule is actually the thing that makes me more confident. There’s no guarantee, but this team simply plays harder when odds are stacked against them. We’ll see.
Beyond that we always tend to get "easy" games in the middle of horrific road trips or 3 games in 5 night stretches. I think there's a lot more to determining strength of schedule than record.

Of course this one the team had all of Thanksgiving in Portland at what I assume was one of the nicer hotels so no excuses beyond injuries here.

I watched about the half the game and then watched something else with the wife, hoping to see the replay the following morning. A handful of games ago or so I became resigned to seeing a mediocre Kings' product so it's not at the top of my priority list.

Unfortunately, my DVR is acting very weirdly. Whereas I can record any other programming without problem and then replay it afterwards, in the last three Kings' games when I wake up in the morning and hit the replay button I get a black screen on the Kings' games, the pre-game, and the post game. Is somebody trying to tell me something?:D Is Vivek not on board with comments?:D While watching in real time I can hit the reverse button and replay action on the floor, but in the morning after everything has been recorded it's totally black. Like I said, very weird that it would selectively black out just Kings' games and my conspiracy theories are going wild. Hopefully, after a three-hour session with Directv I can get it all cleared up.

RE: DirectTV
I had the same black screen problem on channel 698-1. The next day the recording would be totally black from beginning to end. Recordings on other channels were fine. My workaround was to record a replay on channel 696 (I think, maybe 698) for a 2 hour period later that night of a slightly compressed game. That worked. This had been going on for about 3 weeks.

So I called DirectTV and explained the issue. Also, the games were often auto-scheduled to record on the other team's home station, or NBATV so I had to delete that erroneous recording and manually set up the Kings' home recording. They opted to replace the receiver as defective with model 400. The old one was model 200. The replacement happened on Black Friday.

The recording of the Kings' Friday game came out fine on the new receiver...right channel, replay from mid-game on Saturday morning went as expected - no black screen. Tonight's game will be another chance to test the new receiver. So far, the game is scheduled on the correct channel so that is an improvement already.
