Even with SA hitting everything they throw at the rim, if the Kings had shot their season average number of FTs this is only a 3 point SA lead. The over-reliance on 3pt shooting is self-fulfilling prophecy.

Such a lost opportunity to get some momentum. Would be 7-4 with an insane win against the suns. Now you are 6-5 and have two hard games coming you hope to split. Best case scenerio you are 7-6 after that.

Well, if only we took 10 3PA this game and just made every single one of those shots into Middy's, we probably would have won. That's all I've really learned from this game.

every team relies on it, you can’t win without it consistently. They took 9 more three than us and no one is saying they are overly reliant on them. We have to make them and guard them or the season is in the toilet, bottom line.

It's year 3 of the same thing, but if there is an idea of what's supposed to be working on defense, then I would bet that if and when time permits there could be a pretty hardcore in season practice in this teams future.

Wasn't expecting to win this one. Spurs always play the Kings tough and kings are on a back to back having played overtime last night. The 3 point shooting is worrisome though. Hopefully it's more of a slump than something that will stay all season long.

Also how many times are we going to say "Well, if they didn't hit EVERY SHOT they took..." this season?

It's a 2-part problem. Us getting to 35-38% is obviously a must, but we can't keep letting 45% 3P vs us every game either.

To be fair, exerting all their energy to get that win against the Suns probably is what cost the Kings this game in the first place.
for sure, that’s why our shooting and defensive woes are so frustrating. If we rely on crunch time wins every night it catches up to you. We have 4 guys in the top ten in minutes played and one of those guys is 35.

We absolutely have to guard them better. No question that is the biggest issue the Kings need to fix this season. On offense, I want Fox and DeMar getting to the line and hitting jumpers. That's what they do. I don't care if those jumpers are inside the 3pt line or not. And I don't want to lose games because Lyles, McDermot, Sabonis, and Ellis missed a bunch of threes. Go with your best hand not the hand the other team wants you to play. Or failing that, trade somebody for a better shooter if we're going to let math defeat common sense.

Crazy how bad the shooting has been. How long is this going to last?
It will be bad as long as we run this freelance offense. There is no purpose in the movement and when the players don't know at which spot on the floor they will get an open shot, they are more likely to miss. There's a lot of hesitation because they have to calibrate where they are before they shoot the ball and by the time those gears turn the shot is not longer that open. Spurs took away the transition and we were back to pounding the ball on the perimeter looking to make up plays on the go. Even simple pick-and-roll/pop plays would generate consistent shots. The absolute dearth of set plays is not suitable for winning basketball. Individual shot making brilliance has kept us afloat but is not sustainable all season.

Are you suggesting that if we dropped to 30th in 3PA and converted all those shots to middy's, that we'd be a better team? That we could overcome 6-10 3PM difference every game?
I'm suggesting that the shot selection needs to improve and their scoring average as a team needs to go up. They're not scoring enough in general.

The question is how can this roster score more consistently, right now? They just beat Phoenix last night, with close range shots in the 4th and overtime.

I don't think you can assume that we won't be a better team if we do that. More made baskets means less transition opportunities for the other team. We're already good at generating extra possessions with steals. Converting those transition three points attempts into layups or free throws would also help to boost our scoring average. If we're getting more shot attempts than the other team every night, hitting a greater percentage of the shots we do take, and we continue to convert the vast majority of our free throw attempts I think it's conceivable that we could be better and overcome that 3pt gap. We've already had one of the better point differentials in the league even with the atrocious 3pt shooting. What's so hard to understand about "play to your strengths"?

We need two good shooting nights in a row and maybe things turn. I don’t know how to make that happen though
Maybe some coaching. Like actual play calls? haha. Two things are working against the Kings right now. It's hard to quick shoot yourself into rhythm game in game out, and it's hard to stop teams from hitting everything late when you give them everything early. Thank goodness for DeMar because this team would be digging a hole already this season.

Don’t you hate it when what you expected is exactly what happens (in a negative way)?

Freaking back-to-back games. I still don’t understand why we have them. Players don’t want to play in them (load management) and it doesn’t make for a good fan experience.

Either cut the number of regular season games (I know they won’t due to $$$) or extend the overall length of the season enough to allow 82 games to be played with at least one day off between all games (start the season in September if you have to).

Figure it out already, NBA! Sheesh.

Exactly, and especially in the moments where the game is teetering. In the Suns game they came back from the edge. In other games they've looked for the easy way out and took lazy 3's. Once the shooting does come back it might not matter but so far this team grinding vs. launch if it's leather isn't even close. Late in this one some of those 3's were the right shot but they took so many quick, out of sorts ones early it bleeds into the games later on.

We're 6th in PPG on the season. So that's not true either. Also I just posted that we're near the top of the league in 2P FG, FTA, FTM and 2PFG%. So we're actually doing exactly what you're suggesting; attacking the paint.

But you don't have an answer for how to overcome 14.7 PPG in 3pt deficits every game. So essentially what you're suggesting is add 8 more 2PT FGM/game. We shoot 60% from 2 (dubious if that's real, but just for the sake or argument), so we'd have to take roughly 13-16 less 3PA/game, to hit those numbers and make up the deficit.

That would put us at 20 3PA/game on the low end and 17 3PA/game on the high end. It's not a solution.
