Keegan “KEEGAN MURRAY” Murray

So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

If the Kings are already at like a 60 win pace, eh, maybe you do it, but other than that yeah, just ride it out. Too risky. The Keegan we've seen so far isn't netting Giannis without also sending out your entire future of picks with him. Even then, probably ain't getting it done considering the bidding war there would be.
We'd also probably have to throw in a ton of matching salary and I'm not sure who that would be.

I know that you have to take these reports with a huge grain of salt but the teams that Giannis is rumored to have on his free agency shortlist are Miami and Brooklyn. So unless we're trading for a freshly signed muti-year extension there's a good chance he winds up there or LA.

Looking at the other lead players, you have Fox, Sabonis, and Monk in their prime and likely assumed to be near their peak, along with DeRozan still producing at an all star scorer level.

I think the Kings will try to make a significant trade this season. Will it be a Heurter trade, or something bigger? They went hard after Siakam before the last dead-line.
I think, the FO most likely try to involve Huerter if there's any significant trade. Encouraging Domas to shoot long range could be a sign of it? I dunno.
Anyway, Keegan is lurking under the basket more often than last season crashing the board and getting offensive rebounds. He's becoming a near complete player.

Yeah, really great marriage between stats and eye test with Keegan on defense. You just notice his impact on pretty much every play and his defensive versatility to go from Ant on one play to Julius Randle on the next.

I'd be curious how many of the non-Keegan minutes have Keon on the floor. Might be a scenario where having one of them on the floor at all times needs to be the norm.

Keegan Murray On/Off splits:

On: 300 minutes

ORtg: 121.5
DRtg: 108.3
Net: +13.2

Off: 89 minutes

ORtg: 108.4
DRtg: 125.4 (!!)
Net: -17.0

Total net: +30.2

So a little bit of context here. With Keegan on the floor, we're 2nd in ORtg, 5th in Def Rtg and 3rd in Net Rtg

With Keegan off the floor, we're 26th in ORtg, last in DEF Rtg (by 5.5 points!), last in net Rtg (by 1.5 point).

Frankly, this is staggering. It's absolutely star impact type of stuff AND with this is with him shooting poorly.

So, has he hit his low ceiling or not? NBA pundits wants to know.

The Sixers could offer KJ Martin and Adem Bona to the Kings for Murray, although they would have to also toss in first-round draft picks to get the Kings to budge. Murray has started the season on a cold streak, but when he's on he can be one of the best shooters in the league, and brings some much-needed wing defense to help out DeMar DeRozan.
Excuse me while I don't look up the financials on that one...

When all-star time comes around it will be interesting if the Kings get anyone on the team again. If they are 6th it is highly likely 4 players: Demar, Fox, Domas and Keegan could all get votes but in splitting the vote none of them get enough votes to make the team.

if Keegan were shooting 38% from 3 he would have a strong case to be our best player.

Keegan's on-off matches the eye test. Basically that stretch of late 1st - early 2nd, Kings have not been on point. The bench (Monk, Len, Lyles) are often paired with DeRozan and either Fox or Ellis ... Obv some of it is just small sample size, but they got to figure out how to maximize the non-Keegan minutes essentially.
yeah I think we need Kev shooting in those minutes.

Your best player has to be a top 2 option late in games. Murray isn't that at this point

Agreed. I will say that if DeRozan can teach Murray some of his midrange magic, it could be a big difference maker between elite role player or legitimate star. At Murray’s size, he would be a hard cover for most if he was operating in the mid range.
