Third game of the season is kind of early for a "must win," but the Kings cannot afford to dig themselves any deeper a hole.
Kings started 0-4 two seasons ago and 2-4 last season with their only wins being an OT game against the Lakers in which De’Aaron literally sacrificed his lef to get the W and the Jazz, who were only moderately interested in winning.

Slow starts are sort of a theme with the Mike Brown Kings.

You can kind of see an identity there. Yep, this might be a grinder team more than anything and that might be something that pays off as the season goes along. It's going to be something to watch on the other end though. The Kings played hard on defense tonight, but playing hard doesn't stop a team far quicker than you are off of the first step. What turned this game around was the Lakers just started to run head first into the Kings defense.

Yeah, I am not necessarily panicking quite yet. We just lost to two "quality" opponents. Let's hold up on hitting that panic button until we have a chance to see how we do against inferior competition (I am looking at you, Portland and Utah).

Ellis never played huh?
Nope. And it's not like Huerter or Monk played poorly or anything -- I think they both had very good games. We've just seen this story before. The Kings need to find an identity on defense and I think we've already seen their best with this rotation in Mike Brown's first two seasons. Swapping DDR for HB might buy us a couple wins but personally, my hopes for this season and beyond lay on the backs of guys like Keon Ellis and Devin Carter bringing a new level of defensive intensity to this team.

Carter obviously can't be in the rotation while he's injured but when he does get healthy he'll need minutes for his defense to impact the game. And the same goes for Ellis. I thought we were going to see Ellis in the starting lineup and Huerter getting minutes at SF this season but after the first two games I don't see how Ellis or Carter is even going to crack the rotation without a Kevin Huerter trade.

Not saying he would turn the game but no minutes from him is suspect no?
Look, we don’t know what goes on in practice or who’s hurt or sick or whatnot. Keon was in the rotation in the first game and not for the second game. One game does not a pattern make.

If Carter is who he could be, even Brown will have no choice but to recognize him sooner than later. On paper, he IS the guy. Does almost all the things they need, while also giving Brown that other creating G option he likes so much.

It was the Lakers' 14-0 run at the start of the quarter that did us in. Huerter, Murray, Fox, and DeRozan were on the floor. Sabonis and Monk were on the bench. By the time they came back in, the Kings were down seven.

Look, I think the Kings played well overall, but there is one big flaw in Coach Brown's philosophy, which was very evident last season as also in this game: when his team has a lead, he does not put all his best defenders on the court to protect it and burn up the clock.
The entire 4th quarter is a bit too long of a stretch to play keep away to nurse a single-digit lead.

:: #SilverLining mode engaged ::

Six players in double figures, shot over fifty percent from the field, had an acceptable performance from three-point range, shot decent at the free throw line, held their own in the paint, won the turnover battle, pushed or won on every counting stat, except one.

:: End #SilverLining mode ::

... But, oh brother, that one!

The Kings had a seven point lead going into the 4th with all the momentum. How much help are we thinking he’d provide exactly?
Ok at this point unless we go back play by play, we are just trying to nitpick each other's comments.

It's fine. I'm just a fan, end of the day.
