A friend and I popped over to Las Vegas on a quick overnighter to catch the Scorpions in concert (Love at First Sting Las Vegas). The lead singer (Klaus Meine) still sounds pretty good despite his age (and seemed to be moving a bit gingerly after spinal surgery last month!) and the rest were well on top of their games - musically fantastic. Great concert! We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Could have done without Ugly Kid Joe as the opener, although their rendition of "Cat's in the Cradle" was pretty good.

Anyone following along with Apple's Best 100?
A lot of sacred cows dropping in the last two days (30-10) with the top 10 due tomorrow.
I find it fun and interesting and even refreshing given my tastes are well represented elsewhere.

I haven’t posted in this thread but fwiw, I download singles from Apple….much of this is exploring deeper acts from when I was younger but also some somewhat recent stuff. Download an artists songs and just play the artist on my iPhone mode.
The 2 most recent would be No Doubt after watching their Coachella Concert on YouTube tv. Stefani and Kanan still showing lots of energy, which was impressive with their age.
The other one is circling around and getting familiar again with David Gilmore and his solo albums…..I had songs from his real early albums but added some newer stuff. Avoided adding the Pink Floyd songs during his live albums as I’ve already got them with the full rostered group. Gilmour is one of my favorite guitarists and I like his vocals.

I took my folks and my aunt to go catch the ABBA tribute band Summer Night City playing at the Harris Center in Folsom tonight. I hadn't been there before - that's a nice little facility for something like this. They loved it, and I was singing along with 95% of the songs since I've heard them since I was a kid.

I took TJ to see Me First and the Gimme Gimmes last night. Ok, reason #1 to see them is the hilarious between songs stage banter they do. And somehow "This one's a cover" never gets old. As did the hilariously staged (and obviously coming) "Hello Cleveland!" moment.
But if you get a chance you must see this current tour to see the Schizophonics. OMG. I had never heard of them and left with a new favorite band. 100% the best live show I have seen by a new to me in maybe 20 years (Gogol Bordello or possibly Throw Rag when they were a 6 piece).
The show is 40 minutes of this. The guy does not stop. His left hand technique is impeccable because if you don't know better you'd think he was playing to tracks. I am certain he is not and the bassist does a lot of heavy lifting as well as a fuzz pedal and pickup combo that lets him do everything with wild pull offs and bends when he isn't smashing the strings. It's like James Brown and Jackie Wilson meet the MC5 and Jimmi Hendrix. If you like bands like the White Stripes (guitarist/singer and drummer are also a husband and wife team) or the term "gunk punk" means anything to you MUST drop everything and see this band. That is all.

I am the chauffeur for a Gen Z teenager so what do you expect? (honestly the mins played on all of these seems short and I don't quite get how Apple Music counts things because I could swear it plays Fleetwood Mac's The Chain to me every day I get in the car).

I was lucky to see a number of huge 90s acts before they took off, often in small clubs like the Cattle Club, but I always knew who they were going in. The closest thing to a notable exception was I had a friend in my chemistry class who played in one of Kevin Seconds's side projects. They opened a show for Alice in Chains very early into the Facelift release cycle. Also on the bill that night was another young band from Seattle calling themselves Mookie Blaylock. I guess they decided having an active NBA player for a band name wasn't going to work so they titled their debut album with his jersey number "Ten".

Pearl Jam for anyone that doesn't know
Surprisingly close to CB on the vocals. What’s weird for me, I’ve been going over the LP catalogue and downloading songs as I get deeper into their music. I was laying in bed with iTunes open, open up LP and boom, there’s a new album coming. Then when googling what was going on with LP, saw there was a livestream. Watched and listened to it on Saturday night. Then watched an hour long interview with the group members. Watching that helped me understand where the remaining group members are coming from. They were/are ready to go forward. I’ve listened to the new song several times, watched the YouTube videos of the songs from the livestream over and over…..trying to help me transition to the new singer. I’m getting there. What’s great is watching Mike Shinoda seem to be so happy on the stage again.
In addition to doing the JV Football team announcing at kiddo's school I've been offered the opportunity to program the music at varsity games.
Any modern (last 10 years) jock jams out there? I was going to add Rodrigo's Good For You and Brutal (Misery Business which is a jock jam staple I thought is not an option so GFY seems like a close replacement and the cut of Brutal the service has seems like its perfect coming into a big play).
Anyways my kid listens to a mix of my music and totally inappropriate hip hop so wondering what others with high school kids are hearing at games and such?

Just got back from a quick overnight jaunt with my wife to Las Vegas to go catch a couple of icons in concert together that we had never seen live before - Billy Joel and Sting. Billy Joel was one of my wife's "bucket list" performers to see (and Sting is obviously great too) so we celebrated our anniversary a bit late with the trip to catch this.
They were fantastic. I couldn't believe how good they sounded, especially in a football stadium. They had that place dialed in. It sounded great. And they both did some medleys or had a little fun with their songs while playing most of their hits. For instance, Billy Joel worked in a little Elvis (Viva Las Vegas) and had Crystal Taliefero (who is also freaking great) splice in a little River Deep - Mountain High in a song - just awesome. Sting mixed up Roxanne with some new rhythm in the middle (pretty cool) and kicked it up a bit on some other songs (more drums, great guitar work). Just a whole lot of fun! A little article on it:

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I just now in the last half year delved deeper into the LP catalog beyond the hits. Hybrid and Meteroa are outrageously good. Got some nuggets from the Anniversary releases. Such a unique sound. That being said and because I’m late to the LP party, I’m not ready to get into the new album quite yet, but the songs I’ve heard are good.
