Kings trade rumor SZN 2023-2024 edition!

the cap still can be confusing but as it stands we will be under the luxury even with monk re-signed no? Plus the cap figure is going up in 26 if I remember right
In looking at sportrac the kings cap holds prior to the Lopez deal were 26 and change. Which had put them over about 4 million if I read that right. I think the luxury tax is 172 and they put the Kings over by about 4. The issue is Maliks cap hold is only 12 and wasn't his max salary like 18 in the first year? The numbers would be very close as is and using even the smallest portion of an exception would put them over for sure unless they let the other guys walk. Monte could stay under as is but that would mean pretty much no shopping with his MLE. At least, no significant shopping.

Well, disappointing. The only real movers today were Bojan and Hayward, although I really like Tillman and Royce O'Neal, for the price they went for. Even then, we're talking about like the 5th or 6th best players on a good team lol with Bojan and Hayward. Tillman and Royce are like 8th/9th man upgrade types.

I love PJ, but I'm not trading a good player and a FRP for him. That's nonsense.

-Monte Morris is good, but is he healthy? And Minny kind of sneakily paid a lot for him

-McBuckets is awesome, would have loved to get in on that. But again, like a 8th/9th man upgrade

-Bev for Cam Payne is whatever. Neither guy is really all that good anymore

Dinwiddie is real real interesting with a roster slot open and a lot of the contenders can't get in on him. Have to believe we'd at least be in contention.

Yeah I mean the issue is then having 25 going to ATL and not being able to trade 26. or whatever. Also this draft is supposed to be mid. I don't have a favorite college player. And I don't follow the other notable entry-leagues.

May as well draft Bronny and sign his dad to a minimum. lol
Yeh assuming it conveyed in 25 you could then trade whoever your trade partner wants in ‘24 and then a first available pick in the future, likely 27. The question is what do we need. If Monte is confident Keegan can be a 18 plus point a game guy with plus defense then you just need elite role players to fill out the rest. If he decides Keegan is not that guy then unfortunately I could see Monte packaging him with picks. I dunno

Depends on what the team looks like but I think at that level it still keeps Fox at a point where he has to be that closer to 30 a night guy than 25. Keegan was putting up 18 for a good chunk of this season. I think that puts Keegan on par with someone like OG which is great and I think he's pretty much there already anyway. The Kings need more if you're filling out your team with role guys. By comparison Fox would surefire have to be in that Giannis area as a talent at the very least. The rest of this season shows us where the team is at moving forward.

I’m no expert but it looks like we have some luxury space and this included a 12mil cap hold for Monk. Assuming we re-sign him at 17 I still think that leaves us short of the Luxary Tax. Again, I may not be fully understanding this.

yeh and the reality is Fox has to be that guy or we aren’t going to be in real contention no matter who we add. Every contender needs a top ten ish guy

Yeah it does, but it would be like 7 million or so under. Edwards, Keon, and Len's cap holds pretty much eat all that difference up by themselves. So do you just re-sign Malik and let everyone else go? Do 2 way contracts count against the luxury tax? Add a 2nd rounder and that's more. I didn't realize Monte wedged himself a little close the line here by running it back. Barnes, Sasha, and Lyles pretty much were the end of the comfort zone to add without subtraction via exceptions. Looks like it might have been a little early for this. Monte could already be at the tweak phase Petrie got to about 3-4 years into that millenium teams run.

That's why I was always into adding damaged goods like Beal or LaVine. That's realistically Monte's only shot. I mean that's of course assuming the Bulls really weren't trying to get legit value for LaVine. They probably were, lol. And if he comes back next year healthy and they don't mess him around, they'll probably get it so I understand. Just sucks for the fans there, welcome to mediocrity! Monte swung for OG and Siakam but that's it for that one.

Guys , no trade was the best trade ….
I see many of you are disappointed but think it from this side :
1. We are plus 9 …. Damn it this is cool , if it was 2 years ago and and someone offered you plus nine after 50 games you would have jump on it …
2. It was clever move - there was a big expectations that Kings are going to trade FOR SURE and I am 100% sure most of the GMs wanted too high prices cause they thought we will trade at any …
But we aren’t desperate at all…

I have strong believe in this squad and honestly i see them at Conference final with Clippers
We smash Denver in in few hours , then foxy get rest and we will finish the terrible nine game run in plus ;)

LETS GO KINGSSSSS !!!

I don’t think that’s how that works. Those cap holds are included in the numbers. If we resign monk we would be still be something like 15 million under the first apron ( the first apron is 7 mil over Luxury?). Maybe @Capt. Factorial can clear this up for us when he has time.

Haha, I don't know this is confusing. The issue is that the Kings can't really ADD any pieces without going there. Which I'm sure Monte doesn't want to unless this team is contending. It's not dire but Monte might have to be active trying to cut some money on draft night if he wants to shop in the summer.

Wow. You are way ahead of us on the stages of grief.

The Knicks and Kings started to rise at the same time. The Knicks just surged beyond that barrier both teams are facing in their stage of development probably. Dang.
The Knicks have a very clearly defined identity. The Kings don't quite yet know who they want to be. To be fair to the Kings, Thibs slogged along in the mud for a few years before being a legit threat in the East. A lot of naysayers said he didn't have a chance, that he would burn his players out with his defense, defense, defense mantra. Give credit to the Knicks. They had the patience to stick with Thibs, gave him the type of players he wanted, and now they are reaping the benefits.

I’m thinking the Kings PLAYERS know who they want to be, and the Kings COACHES know who they want the team to be, but the two VISIONS are not the same, which is creating rifts and morale problems.

And the Mavs have essentially maxed out all their credit cards and put the house down as collateral to do it. And all to essentially downgrade Grant Williams and upgrade Richaun Holmes
Also saw a tweet that they gave a pick swap the year after Luka's contract expires. If he bolts they are screwed.
