Kings trade rumor SZN 2023-2024 edition!

Would make me feel better about Kuz if all those analytics that showed he's actually incredible, despite his surface stats, still applied. I forget exactly what it was, but I just vaguely remember a report a few years back that he was legit awesome on the Lakers and a big reason they made that run in their title year.
Most of the more respected guys like Sam like Kuzma and they love his contract. He has a lot of positives. Good secondary scorer, can pass above average, rebounds well, has good size and most think he can lock in defensively when asked. He has also been durable. I’m onboard with it as long as we have enough ammo to add defense somewhere

Take the load of being option one and Kuzma can play defense also I’d love our closing lineup with size and shooting Fox/Keegan/Kuz/Barnes/Sabonis

My guess is if we trade KVon you start 3 wings (Keegan Kuz HB) with Fox and Sabonis.

Kuz seems pretty likely to get moved. Is it Kings? Mavs? I’d imagine an Omax and a first might be more appealing than what we would offer but depends on the Wiz view of him.

I’ve said it before but I don’t want to trade KVon, but if Monte does do it I would think he would be pretty happy going back to the East Coast.

Keegan at the 2 is pretty fun and it works because he's fairly easily our best guard defender anyway. It'd be nice to see the Kings as the super long team for once too.

But yeah, I don't know. There's a huge leap of faith here to trust that we can reign in Kuzma to get him to play winning basketball again. He just hasn't been that as a Wizard. Intriguing skills, absolutely, but putting a lot of faith in our culture and Brown to get it done.

Reading all of your opinions look like I have to give Kuzma the benefit of the doubt…
Still hope this trade will not happen but I will try to judge him with respect as King :)

Who has the stronger position for trade - us or Dallas ? According to ESPN latest “buzz” they are also aiming into Kuzma as the “perfect” fit for them?

I didn't see him play D when he was with the Lakers and haven't seen it since. At this point it seems like trying to get blood out of a turnip.

Another dude who can absolutely swing a playoff series. He should be on every contenders list.
Delon Wright is 4 years older and his shooting has dropped off a bit this year but Defensive box plus/minus and VORP still love him. He has the highest DBPM on the team. Almost double that of Gafford, who is in 2nd and that stat favors bigs far more than guards. It was even higher last year. Either he's one of the best defensive guards in the league or he's made that stat a fallacy.

I'd definitely take Delon as a parting gift (we both know they never should have given him up) but Tyus is where it's at right now.

If we do deal for Kuz, is it sad I'd be way more excited about Delon and/or Tyus coming over more? Lol.

Good stuff on Wright, dude is just a good player, when healthy. Still really the only mind-blowingly bad deal Monte has made in his tenure here, for a washed TT

To be fair, we wouldn’t have been able to swing the Domas deal without TT’s expiring contract sooooo yay us?

Actually, historically in terms of efficiency Barnes with his continued role right now is a better secondary scorer than Kuz by far. Kuz will launch away whereas Harrison won't take many bad shots. Kuz would certainly add some athletic ability but my concern is how he fits next to Murray. Kuz as a top 3 option I think could have some negative impacts on Keegan as much as anyone. I think he might step on Murray's toes a little bit.

Kuzma's defense has been so bad this year that he's scoring 21ppg but still has negative win shares. I don't really pay attention to that stat all that much but I don't think I've ever seen anything close to that before. Usually negative win shares are for talented rookies who get featured more than their talent can handle at that point or they're for end of bench and 2 way G league type players. I can't recall a 20ppg scorer in his prime having negative win shares like Kuzma has.

There is a chance that he's basically what Barnes was in Dallas. A 3rd or 4th option playing the role of a 1st option and he could potentially be a lot better on our team in a different role but I don't think rolling the dice on a player who costs you over 20mil a year is worth it in that case.

Oops, didn’t see Joemama already posted the Delon bit already

It's funny, watch this be another John Collins swerve. The Kings want Kuzma! They get Wright! Kings want Collins, end up with Huerter! lol.

At this point Delon is basically an upgrade to Duarte? Maybe? Davion? I'd much rather see Keon get minutes. I get taking young players along slowly but Keon can basically fill that same role. The deal could be a way to get Davions money off the books and maybe the Kings could get a 2nd rounder with him or something if the deal isn't bigger with Kuzma involved.

Did Keon get hurt or something? He was playing just fine and then they randomly started featuring Davion. I'm guessing it's for the trade deadline but still odd that he basically gets zero minutes.

I think both Barnes and Kuz are indeed around the same level talent wise. Kuzma is for sure more athletic though so that counts for him. The iso stats don't lie though, Barnes historically is on par with players like Carmelo Anthony and that's why Dallas took that shot. Barnes just wasn't productive enough. Kuzma is the oppositite, he's productive but on par with players like JR Smith when running offense. That could explain win shares a bit lol.

yeh the Keegan bit is a concern for sure. Monte either needs to fill out with one more offensive punch that adds a wrinkle or find a Draymond level defender that changes us into top 8.

Imo there are 3 guys that may or not be available in the next year that change the course of your defense. Draymond, Caruso and Smart. Thybulle comes in just after that. Add that level of defender and you can probably find an iso scoring punch somewhere, like Kelly Oubre type.

Just a guess, but after his shot starting showing in games and then he had that game where he hit 5 three's, combined with the team playing better with him on the floor (advanced stats and to the eye) and his versatile defense translating,... I think they decided they were going to sign him to a regular contract after the deadline. Time will tell shortly

I was just taking a gander over at assisted FGM stats and those kind of tell the story in the potential issues depending on the player the Kings go after if scoring and production are the goals. Kuzma actually provides the needed attitude for Kings needs heading into the playoffs but it's the results that kick it right in the nuts. Without fail, all 3 of Huerter, Murray, and Barnes this season aren't creating their own offense. They are all around 75-90% of their offense being created for them within the system. Murray and Huerter have yet to show in the iso stats this season (Murray has yet to in his career) due to a lack of individual scoring opportunity and mostly likely the inability to get to the line consistently, however, just in this recent run Barnes has not only finally showed up but has already shot up to the 40th percentile. He's normally in that upper 20% range of the entire league. Kuzma is about a 60/40 split assisted/unassisted this season but he's in the 19th percentile in iso. Woof. Kuz doesn't hammer the ball into dust by any means, but he's takes some very bad shots and always has. Kuzma and Jerami Grant are both surprisingly similar across the board statistically when it comes to their game along with their roles currently in both isolation and in assisted vs. unassisted. The difference is basically Grant is much better in the raw percentages off ball. If Monte is throwing a first round pick at a player like that, Grant should be that guy over Kuzma. Neither are terrible fits but I'd bet on Grant not disrupting things over Kuz in a worst case.

I think it's also a "games played" problem. I believe he roughly has like 20ish games left as a two way? So depending on what happens at the deadline, he might be back in for the stretch run.

Would be pretty strange to save a two way guy for rotation minutes down the stretch....and then not have him available for the playoffs.

I think he gets signed to a regular contract, traded, or played very little and stashed for next season
