My take on the game last night is that it was a tough game to (defensively) gameplan for with their altered lineup consisting of a newly acquired HOFer. They brought it to us hard in the first 10 minutes and we were on our heels the rest of the way. They won mostly by the element of surprise. We outplayed them the last 38 minutes. Unfortunately a game of basketball in the National Basketball Association of America* does consist of 48 minutes of playing time and so we sustained the loss without grounds for appeal.

Let's hope tonight is a different story.

Kings have pretty much played Luka pretty nails since THE PICK. Hopefully tonight is more of the same.

That said, I really didn’t / don’t get the “Mavs aren’t better now” takes I’ve seen everywhere. Of course it all hinges on Kyrie not going full Kyrie, but if he buys in they’re so darn talented. As talented a 1/2 punch in all of basketball.

Gonna be tough… splitting would have been ideal. Double loss isn’t a reason to panic just yet.

They're better for as long as they have good Kyrie. Good Kyrie has never lasted very long.

I'd venture to say it's a top 10 1/2 punch of all time. Kyrie is still in the media doghouse over the covid stuff, that's where some of this comes from.

I also think people underestimate superstars' ability to mesh when paired with other superstars when there is a real chance of winning a title. The greats are grown men here to do one thing: cement their legacy, and they know championships are the way to do that. I don't foresee any issue whatsoever with them meshing and we'll need to get serious about beating them over the next 1-4 years if we want to be contenders.

It's the type of move that makes you build a counter-move. Monte's wheels are turning I can guarantee you that.

I'll believe this when Kyrie re-signs with the Dallas. I think I expect him to, solely for money reasons, but the rumor mill is wild and some of the rumor mongers actually do have sources.

Honestly I kind of forgot about covid, I mostly just harbor resentment from his Celtics tenure, but then more recently was some anti-semitic stuff? And people that like the Cavs say he was really destructive on the way out of Cleveland as well.

Obviously he had some moment of brilliance last night and I was surprised he hadn't scored more than he did since it seemed like he was just getting 3 pointers at will (but I guess that was the whole team in the first quarter). I just can't shake the notion he will go off the rails at some point, as he has done with teams much better built than the current Mavs team.

I hear you on all that and agree to an extent but the x factor with the Mavs is always Cuban - who has shown an ability to placate the eccentricities of superstars from the top level. We shall see. Greatness does come with a cost.

Hot fiery takes come if / when we drop into play-in level. Hopefully Monte was right and this team can withstand everyone else upgrading. We’re the target… straight up, if we drop to play-in level, this deadline was an abject failure and Monte needs to admit as such.

But I won’t worry about that until we get there. The boys have proved me wrong all year long, just gotta keep doing it.

If the past is any indicator, the Kings will start this game with some energy, just like they did against Minni when they lost the first game.

The only way this season is an abject failure is if we don't make the playoffs. Yesterday sucked but I just don't see this team completely falling out of the playoff picture with the talent we have.
Does Play-In = Play-off?

I say no (unless you win into the actual tournament)

Gotta stay above the 6 seed, and just avoid that headache altogether.

Domas questionable and Monk out tonight. Time for some guys to step up
Important players missing games with the worst timing. A game here, two games there, another game, etc etc. It could all come down to not enough wins at a home. Was looking like the team had positioned themselves to not have to hold on to a spot by the skin of their teeth, but every day now it seems more likely to be a thing down the stretch

They’ve earned goodwill. Doesn’t mean I won’t melt down like I did when I thought we were losing to Houston. Lol

But Houston’s meltdown is justified (in my mind), can’t lose to them with two very losable games right after. Luckily it didn’t matter in the end. Losing two to Dallas (potentially) really sucks. Losing two to Dallas after losing to Houston is as disasterous an extra single loss can be.

A new day and new opportunity baby!! We win games and some folks act like we were just lucky to win em. We have a good team, now we just have to work our way up to being great. We can win tonight, Luka or no Luka - they are not the juggernaut we saw in that 1st quarter.
