In regards to Lyles as a small ball C, it’s worth mentioning that Lyles and Holmes had virtually the same measurements coming into the NBA draft:

243 lbs
8.8% body fat
8.5” hand length
8.5” hand width
6’8.25” height w/o shoes
7’1.5” wingspan
9’0” standing reach

241 lbs
12.1% body fat
9.25” hand length

Sabonis had 9 points, 17 rebounds, and 7 assists and felt like he barely played again. He’s a high impact player but he needs to be on the floor. The whistles are impacting his scoring too imo.
Let’s just hope that the refs stalking him is one of those early season “points of emphasis” that they’ll forget about in a couple of weeks because it’s getting ridiculous. Most of them were “technically” fouls but even other Kings bigs are getting away with more contact. Lyles is actually allowed some space to play physical and that allows him to make big plays in crunch time. Certainly Plumlee and Richards were bumping, swiping.
I felt the refs were surprisingly hard on Domas when he came over last season but it was more so the abuse he took from defenders that went uncalled.
This season they are calling Domas like he’s Lawrence Funderburke sneaking a few minutes on Shaq.
Huerter may turn out to be a 20+ a game guy for the season. I felt he had a lot of breakout potential because of the logjam of similar guards in Atlanta and I was always impressed with him. He’s a steal. I think a lot of us expected at a most a 14-15 ppg scorer at best. We would’ve been happy with that but he’s a major option.
Great performance from Davion. He changed the game offensively and defensively. Clutch baskets. We just need him on the floor with other reliable ball handlers and if he can keep that outside shot credible. He’s a killer and game changer.
Trey Lyles was solid again. Not as smooth as the last game but made massive players.
A bit labored offensive game by Barnes but his role is becoming very clear and very important. This game and last his isolation and getting to the line has been huge. They don’t win either without Barnes. Once that perimeter shot makes an appearance things can get very interesting.
Off night for Keegan. Hit a big three though. Good shots. Just weren’t falling most of the game.

Big win. They needed this game and the Magic one for this road trip not to be a disaster. I was ready to call it after the first half. Hopefully they can steal one in Miami. Not confident about @GSW despite their struggles

he was not if you take into account both ends. He has a high IQ but was targeted frequently on the defensive end. He just is a bad defender and can’t stretch the floor on offense.
all that said Kings win and Davion had a great night that hopefully gets him going offensively to go with his great defense.

Barnes is now 2-18 from 3PT land this year (11%).
It’s maddening to see someone who was such a consistent shooter year after year just put up brick after brick this season. Can you imagine if we had 40% 3PT Barnes right now? Defenses would be constantly scrambling to close out on Huerter, Murray, and Barnes.
It makes you think if we add a Cam Johnson in free agency next year how lethal our spacing could be around Fox/Sabonis with all 3 players being able to not just hit spot up 3s but also hit them off curls, pin downs, handoffs, etc. It really opens up the floor if your shooters can hit those types of shots vs. just the traditional C&S 3s.

And he's lost confidence in the shot, so he's passing up 3's he'd normally be firing and driving into traffic. At least the FT problem looked better tonight 8-8, including the clutch FT's at the end of the game to ice it.
Huerter and Keegan have been carrying the spacing by themselves, but we're going to need Barnes/Monk/Davion (great start for him)/T.Davis/Lyles to start coming along too. Regression is coming for Huerter, he's not going to keep hitting 60% from 3 every game.

You think Cam Johnson doesn't have shooting slumps?
The biggest problem w/HB offensively right now isn't that he's in a shooting slump. The biggest problem is that he's been passing up open looks. Opponents won't slack off him at the 3-ppt line because he's slumping - they know he's a very good shooter and that, like all good shooters, he can get over his slump in an instant. But they might start sagging off him if he keeps passing up open looks. And THAT would pose a problem for the rest of the guys.
Tonight he passed up an open corner 3 to feed Davion for an open but longer 3. Davion hit it. Maybe an acceptable play since Davion had already hit a 3 at that point and HB wanted to stoke his confidence. But, as a rule, HB-corner-3 >>>> Davion longer-3 pretty much every time.
