So Keegan has played what, 8 games in a Kings uniform and has looked exactly the same in 7 of those 8 games?

And by exactly the same I mean the best player on the floor with elite efficiency.

Super hot take but is it possible that this dude looks like the best player on the Kings roster by the end of the year?

I might be okay with him coming off the bench if it means that he can get more shots up per game. It just feels more like we're watching a seasoned veteran rather than a rookie.

Nope. This was never a Bagley situation situation with me. Yes I did throw a temper tantrum, but got over it. Ivey’s going to be good. Keegan’s going to be good.
Good man. You were very unhappy with the Murray pick, but apparently time has healed your wound. Oh. And Murray's play.

It was a Bagley situation, you said as much. Must I find the post? Be honest. You hated the pick and said as much.

Man, it's game one of the preseason. I'm sure there'll be plenty of time for receipts over the next (hopefully) 90 plus games this year.

Let's just appreciate the blowout over the Lakers tonight.

I was very vocally against it, rage quit for a few weeks when the pick was made, came back and saw stars in my eyes for Ivey’s first SL game… and here we are now?

I really don’t think other than my initial rage-quit I went full into Bagley hate mode. I questioned if Keegan could be a star. Never did I say he’d be a bust. I would have rather taken the swing on a guy I thought had more home run potential at 4 than a guy I saw as a safe for/need pick.

People who completely decimated the player must fully attone for the sin. They must, MUST, say "I was wrong and I apologize". Half asking it to the board is unacceptable

That is very acceptable. Very commendable. I knew I liked you lol. Just as passionate as I am!

Keegan as THE DUDE off the bench doesn't bother me at all, although I do love his fit with Fox and Sabonis.

Make him a starter after McNair cons some team out of value for Barnes.

The key is when defenses start treating him like the best player. Then you find out about ceilings.

That's the thing for me. I think Murray helps them more than any other thing rookie or not. Also, I'm cautiously waiting to see what this team looks like when they aren't facing the other team with literally no true modern wings on it's entire roster, lol. The Lakers have two superstars but they are probably the least modern team out there.

That's the thing is Keegan is SMART. He finds his spots and makes his plays. He doesn't try to do too much. You can't guard a player that never tries to do too much and just finds the best places to be on the court.

They couldn't guard Tim Duncan because as soon as they tried to double he would pass out of it and then reset and once he reset he would turn away from the double and either hit the bank or take his man or drop it to Ginobli or Parker cutting while the double came. That's intelligence and Keegan has that.

I turned this on about mid-way through the first and watched until it became clear most of the 4th quarter was just going to be audition time for the least likely players to make the roster. I was overall impressed with what I saw....

The ball movement and player movement on offense was crisp and decisive in a way I haven't seen from a Kings team in a very long time. That was probably what I was most excited by. Malik Monk looked particularly locked-in out there, maybe cause he was going against his former teammates. His shooting line in the box-score doesn't look good but in the flow of the game I thought he was one of our better players tonight. That Mitchell/Monk backcourt off the bench is going to be a serious problem for other teams -- I think that's our secret weapon for the first half of the season. They're never going to stop coming at you.

The team defense needs some more tuning but there were a lot of great individual plays made on the ball, especially by the guards (though it's not like the Lakers have a great guard rotation either). Sabonis seemed a little sluggish today but I'm not worried about him, it's early days. Richaun Holmes will be a huge luxury to have coming off the bench as well. Once the score got out of hand it's hard to really draw any conclusions since it's not like this is a game that counts so everyone threw in the towel pretty early.

Saving the best for last... Keegan continues to impress with his aggressiveness and shot-making ability. He's showing no fear out there either taking the ball into the paint or catching and shooting behind the arc which is a great sign for our playoff hopes this season. I think I missed most of KZ Okpala's minutes but I don't think he's in competition with Keegan for minutes during the regular season. Murray will earn himself a starter's role very soon even if he technically starts the game on the bench for the first 30 or so games. I'd be shocked if Harrison Barnes comes back next season unless it's for an extreme discount or a 1-2 year deal so we'll be looking for a starting 3/4 eventually and if Murray is going to grow into a 20ppg stud next to Fox and Sabonis then we'll need someone else in that starting lineup to be a blue collar defensive guy who hardly ever puts up a shot unless it's a wide open three. Might as well start grooming Okpala for that role now and see if we can check that off our 2023 off-season shopping list.

Dude produced Barnes like numbers against mostly the other team‘s second unit and you’re asking for receipts for dudes, who said he‘s going to be solid, not great, kinda like a 4/3 version of Barnes. Okay…sure…

Go ahead and downplay it all you want but Barnes never played that heady, smart, and efficient when he was a rookie, not to mention his first ever game in the league. Keegan looked like the best all around player on the court last night, and barely had the ball.

You are very annoying.

Lotta groaning about Okpala in the starting lineup but you can't argue with this.

If Fox, Sabonis, Barnes and say Huerter can carry the offensive load, then you'd be maximizing Okpala's talents by having him in the starting lineup. If you've got a defensive specialist, you want him guarding good offensive players. His skills are wasted if he's locking down Derrick Jones Jr and his offensive limitations are exacerbated if he's on the floor with other marginal offensive players.

It's really going to be up to the other 4 guys to be able to carry the load. If not, they may need to have Murray in the starting lineup but that may make the bench unit extra weak on offense.

Keegan looks like a starter.
Davion is going to be getting a lot of run, I wouldn't be surprised if he is in the finishing lineup at the end of games.
Fox looks fast. Couldn't finish anything driving to basket.

It's going to be hard for guys like TD, Metu, Liles, Len to get meaningful playing time, unless injuries or trades open a spot. I would be looking to move HB at some point.

If I had to make roster decisions right now, I'd keep

C Sabonis/Holmes/Len
PF Murray/Lyles/Moneke
SF Barnes/Okpala/Bazemore
SG Huerter/Monk/Davis
PG Fox/Mitchell/Dellavedova

Two way: Queta and Ellis

We can quibble over positions (both Barnes & Murray are 4/3s to me and Huerter should be used as a 2/3) but that's the roster I'd go with.

I know Lyles had a poor game last night but I'd keep him as a stretch 4 and cut Metu as well as Merrill, and Cook though I don't have a strong preference for that 3rd PG spot. Even if Fox & Mitchell were out I think Brown would start Monk & Huerter at guard over either of them.

If Metu could be an effective smallball 5 give I'd keep him but I actually think Murray is better suited for that role than Chimezie.

And keeping both Bazemore (who looked good) and Moneke (who was as good as advertised in his first action) makes more sense in such a wing driven league.
