Poor dude became a laughing stock and had his life ruined because Deadspin couldn’t be bothered to wait long enough to do a fact check.
Yeah the Deadspin folks sucked although it was going to be bad no matter what and honestly Naya does not seem particularly remorseful and I'm pretty sure she also wrecked Diane O'Meara's life for a few years too (and spinning it as her own finding herself redemption tale is going to do massive harm to that community). It was sad listening to Manti talk about the imposter syndrome type mental and physical effects he had upon entering the NFL and just the entire toll it took on him and yet he seems to have forgiven everyone.

I also watched Netflix's Woodstock thing, at first I was like "why do we need another W99 feature?" and I think HBO's/The Ringer is the one to watch (also their Alanis Morisette feature on Jaged Little Pill is thumbs up) but I did like the formatting of this as kind of an hour by hour foray into the growing disaster. I think it also paints a nice picture of where Limp Bizkit was in relation to everything as well which sort of shows the lame excuse that it was all Fred Durst's fault for what it was.

So if you have time for both, or you watched the other one a few years ago, this is a nice supplement. Otherwise watch the HBO/Ringer docs instead.

I agree with you about the Alanis Morrisette doc. Was really well done, lots of nostalgia and made me remember just how phenomenal that Jagged Little Pill album was.

Maybe it’s because I watched the Netflix Woodstock doc first, but I preferred it over the HBO/Ringer version. I was 21 when that festival took place and remember watching lots of MTV coverage of it. A couple years prior in the summer of 96 I attended the Tibetan Freedom Concert organized by the Beastie Boys that took place in Golden Gate Park over 2 days. Was a much smaller scale than Woodstock but some similarities in behavior, for sure. Hard to believe that it’s been 26 years

I hadn't realized it but I was right in the middle of a job transition during W99 and prepping to head to Vegas to open the Alladin (I think?) casino/resort (I did the steakhouse and Eiffel Tower restaurants). I thought I was at my previous job where it was like a frathouse everyday until it dawned on me when the exact dates were up. I turned 25 a few days after the event so W94 was much closer to my heart.

I think the HBO doc was a little more heavy handed so I can appreciate that viewpoint. The Netflix is a little more organic and allows people like John Scher to hang themselves. It may absolutely be a case of which you see first. I actually started my W99 journey with the Ringer's podcast series on the festival.

One thing about the Jagged doc I liked was seeing a pre-Foo Taylor Hawkins and some of the other touring bandmates. Probably even more poignant now that Taylor has left us.

Just watched both episodes. Damn. How Manti can forgive Naya is something I would never be able to do. So much damage caused by that one person who as you said, doesn’t come across as very remorseful whatsoever.
As nice as Netflix were for NOT pulling a deadspin and running a story without input from the subjects, they could have condensed her journey into "I didn't know it in 2009 but I have come to terms with my identity as a woman" rather than giving her the "I realized I am a woman and my pretend life as a female online that lead to me catfishing this poor dude and ruining his whole life was just part of my process and look at me I'm a beautiful butterfly now!" edit. Maybe some of that time could have been spent on what this did to Diane as well?

I say this because I think the uncritical portrayal will due more harm to a marginalized community than good.

Watched the first episode of She-Hulk - I think they have something that can be entertaining here. Let's see where this goes....

If you watch AGT, Sara James who is 14 is an amazing singer and possible winner of the show this season. You can google her and watch a YouTube video of Elton John’s Rocket Man

Loving She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Still early in the series but, so far, it's exactly what I was hoping it would be: a low-stakes law "dramedy" (but with superpowers), that pulls heavily from the Dan Slott run in the comics. As a big fan of the title character, it does bug me a little bit how many people are openly (and very loudly) saying that they're only watching the show for the guest stars, but whatever gets the clicks, I guess.

Interesting turn that they've done with Titania's character: she seems less like the version from the comics, and more like Tahani Al-Jamil, but with super-strength. It's not a difference that bothers me, though, and I'm happy to see how it all plays out. I would like to find out if they change the story of how she got her powers, as they can't really do the comic book version, since two of the characters who factor heavily into her origin (Doom, the Beyonder) haven't been introduced yet, and one character (Julia Carpenter, aka Spider-Woman II) they don't own the cinematic rights to.

Also, to the best of my recollection, there's never been any version of She-Hulk in the comics where
Jen's mother is alive
... so I'm very interested to see where they take that dynamic.

I've seen that there are a lot of 1-star reviews based on the first episode. Some folks really need to get a life....
"Based on the first episode" is a bit of a misnomer: the show got review-bombed by a bunch of people who didn't actually watch the first episode. Many of those negative reviews were posted before the first episode was even released. The chances that this is not part of a coordinated online hate campaign are next to zero.

Ah - I hadn't read the details and saw the news blip after the first episode was released. Thanks! Sounds an awful lot like Captain Marvel, IIRC.

And Ms. Marvel.
And The Last Jedi.
And The Eternals.
And Ghostbusters 2016.

If only these fans could use their powers for the collective food like the fictional heroes they claim to admire.
To be fair, The Eternals was actually a bad movie. Ambitious but bad.

every other one of those movies absolutely did nothing to warrant the hate they got.

Um, Ghostbusters 2016 was pretty bad (outside Chris Hemsworth). Eternals was better on a second viewing. It still wasn't good by any means, but it wasn't as bad as I first thought.

Eternals was not a bad movie. It definitely suffered from being overly ambitious

I never saw Ghostbusters (2016), because I didn't like the original. But people whose tastes in movies I respect said it was good, and that's good enough for me.

Something I forgot to mention that I like about this show, that some people might consider to be kind of contradictory to my previous post: I really, really hope that they keep this show as a low-stakes law "dramedy," because that would allow them to do some nifty "lampshade hanging" over the sort of stuff that fans and critics alike nitpick over, endlessly. For example, with respect to the family dinner scene in Episode 2:
Imagine Jennifer having to represent Clint Barton in court, because he received multiple citations for leaving his arrows all over NYC?

Or, since CA:NWO isn't due out until 2024, the actors might have a couple days free time, so suppose
Some civilian got their car wrecked during the battle between Sam and Bucky and the Flag Smashers in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and they don't have superhero insurance, so they decide to sue Captain America for damages?
There's tons of potential for guest appearances in this show, featuring established MCU characters in a less serious context, and I am here for it!

Finished The Sandman. Took a few episodes for me to connect but as I got to know the characters, I did like it.

Currently watching
Mike on Hulu. Solid start in first 2 episodes. Not new territory though.
This Fool on Hulu. Really like the short episodes and humor. Good stuff
Reservation Dogs on Hulu. From Taika Waititi, this is a really good series, well done.
She Hulk…..it’s ok so far at least for me. Love the actress playing the lead as I loved her in Perry Mason.
See on appletv is back for the final season. Will get to this one.
Surface on Apple TV. Twists and turns, feels like it could be better
A league of their own on prime. Binged like the first 6 episodes but haven’t gotten back to it but it’s fairly solid.

House of the Dragon gets right to it in episode 1. Definitely set the tone for the series
Watched the first episode tonight. It also suffers at times from the ending of GoT - too dark. At times it's hard to see what's on the screen. Throw a couple more candles or torches in these scenes, people!
