Keegan Murray as a stretch 4 vs. a modern inside/out 4/5. When he should be yelling at his teammates to get him the **** ball! haha.

I hope they kind of move away from the experimention of him being solely a spacer. They're literally cutting out 90% of his iso skills. He has a drop step, a good one at that, and that's about all. Don't crash and burn thinking you're Middleton when you're actually a skilled big.

The Game Thread Dude
4/12 from 3 when he missed some open looks that he won’t get in the NBA was a little disappointing but to still finished with an efficient 23 is great
Dude was shooting on tired legs but it felt like he adjusted his shooting form in the 4th quarter to compensate and started playing downhill in lieu of staying on the perimeter.

I’ve been in support of Murray since minute 1, but with that I’d love to see him play a full game just like the last 5 minutes of this game. Would also like see him get some post work and even out his play on the defensive side.
Yeah, once he got a few paint touches his energy level shot up. He also looked really good at the 5. All of a sudden his average athletic abilities go up a notch. He's not driving on NBA wings right now. It's not happening. Especially with this spacing. He should be able to back them down though. However, he can probably drive on 5's. At the 5 we even saw a nice little pick and pop play. Hopefully Fernandez gets Murray more chances as a pick and roll big rather than running off screens.

If Fox and Sabonis are worth their salt and everybody moves the ball he'll absolutely get open looks from 3 in the Big League. As will HB and Huerter, just to round out the likely starting 5. In fact, alongside HB and Huerter - both 39% from 3 last year - Murray will be THE guy to leave open on rotations until the rookie proves otherwise. Everyone misses open 3's - and I'll take 33% from 3 on what I think is his worst shooting night of summer league to date.

I’d run Coleman and or Keon Ellis at the PG spot and let Ferrari get minimal or no minutes.

Yeah it's a little frustrating hes getting no schemed paint touches, nothing on the PnR at all as the ball handler or roll man. It's all off-ball movement shooting, C&S, cutting or they clear out and let him ISO on the perimeter lol.

My one thought is this is similar to the pro offense with all the work Ferrari/Queta are doing in the PNR as the base set. They're in the Fox/Sabonis role

Na, there’s something there. The fact there seems to be some legit talent on top of him being able to move as well as he does at his size? I like it. Quite a bit.
yeah the team is clearly better when he plays and he does a great job of rim protection. Not sure how he fits with the guys we have but I think he probably is why we let Jones go.

yeah Murray and Sabonis running the dribble hand-off 3 will be tough to stop. If you hedge at all to try to stop him going around the screen he will back door you and Sabonis won’t miss the pass.

yeah I think they are playing him how he will be used in the NBA. I don’t see him getting a lot of paint touches unless the other team switches a small guard on to him. Coming off screens and dribble hand-offs is where he will earn his keep.

This is summer league. You have to lower your expectations. The players that usually suffer in summer league are big men. They don't have the ball unless the little guys that are trying to score on every play get them the ball. In the Banchero game, his team was constantly feeding him the ball, so he's going to look good. Players like Murray are going to look like they disappear unless the coach actually calls a play for them. I don't worry that much about the results of summer league. I'd like to see Murray do more driving to the basket. His weakness is his handle, so go out there and practice driving into traffic.

When I look at Murray I look a couple of years down the road and see how good he can be. His handle will improve as will the other parts of his game. He might bore you at times, but when was the last time we had a rookie player average around 20 points a game for five summer league games. The future looks bright. His life will be much easier on the parent club with Sabonis, who won't miss those backdoor cuts he makes. By the way, this was one of the worse refereed games I saw. But it is summer league.

So far his two "bad" outings have come off back to backs and nobody on these SL teams are doing him any favors. I figure that he'll learn to play an 82 game schedule over the next 2-3 years and that is part of the "ceiling" that he's already reached - much like Luka was entering the league close to his ceiling - and just playing with real NBA guys and a coaching scheme that can enforce some accountability may fill in the rest. He's otherwise been as advertised. Real games that count can't get here soon enough.

He needs to be more aggressive period. If this was a nba game you could scheme him right out of the game. It's fine for a rookie and his role this year as a role player, but he's gonna have to have a more killer attitude if he is going to live up to that 4th pick status. He has all the talent the world to do it, and his attitude screams clutch. So far I'm pleasantly surprised and exiced about the kid. He's going to be a good one.
