Can someone who feels this is a good trade please elaborate on what Sabonis brings to this team? It is mind boggling hilarious that all the people that like this trade are just repeating the same words over and over ... "all-star" ... "19-12". Like basketball is not just about counting stats. Just asking because it seems there is a lot of people in this thread getting on people for criticizing this trade (such as me), but yet are bringing nothing of substance to the table of why they actually like this trade besides empty cliches & phrases ...

- How will the Kings build a defense around Sabonis as a big?
- How will Mitchell & Fox coesist in the backcourt as two smallish guards?
- Explain how to solve the issue of the Kings 3 core pieces now (Fox, Sabonis, Mitchell) all being non-shooters?
- Where will the playmaking come from now? Fox & Mitchell are horrible passers and rarely set up the bigs
- How will they solve the forward problem now? Free agency? How are these shooters available that the Kings can sign to mask Fox/Sabonis not being able to shoot?

Seriously, that's all I'm hearing. If there's anything Kings fan should have learned by now it's that STATS DON'T MATTER. Like at all I'd argue, besides efficiency stats (Meaning 3 point percentage doesn't lie and never will)

These are all legitimate questions but how in the world are they ever going to get started on building anything without making a move first? A team 15 games below .500 ain't gonna fix all of these things with one trade. Getting a greater young talent just doesn't feel like a loss to me, period. Sabonis is a solid playmayer and passer himself, btw. Idk .. i just don't see how keeping Haliburton was going to greatly improve the future if everyone claims our other assets are so scarce. So, we keep Tyrese and all the other guys people claim no one wants? What was that going to do?

surround Fox and Sabonis with longer defenders. Sabonis isnt Gobert by any means but he also isn’t post-leg injuries Boogie. Our Mitchell on point of attack and use guys like Harkless to hedge/press. Not an easy fix but it’s not like Tyrese was some sort of superstar on that end either. Holliday is also a very good defender.

Fox actually seems to defend bigger guards better than point guards. Put Davion on the point and let Fox play off ball.

Davion’s shooting splits are all really good since he’s been starting. Sabonis isn’t an elite shooter by any means but his man still can t play off of him because of his ability to find creases and passing lanes.

Sabonis is, as has been mentioned time and time again, one of the best passing bigs of all time.

Barnes is still on the roster and shooting over 40% from three. Justin Holliday is still on the roster next season and also around 38% from the perimeter. We still have our pick. Holmes and Bagley are still moveable for assets. in addition to bringing in an all-star big, this move also shored up our wing/forward depth.

-Sabonis isn't as bad a defender as people try to make him out to be. He's an incredible rebounder (offensive and defensive) and can be a good team defender. He's not a rim protector though, nor is he a good defender in space. Find the right fit (PJ Washington) and he'll be fine. Metrics have been higher on him over the years than his perception.
-Mitchell has had 0 problems checking any guard size in the league. Not an issue
-Here's your first and only issue. But Mitchell has been a 37% 3pt shooter on 7 3's per game as a starter. Kings have to hope he can keep that consistency.
-What? Sabonis is one of the best playmakers in the NBA and is only 2nd to Jokic as a big man passer/playmaker. If anything, we're net-improving the playmaking because you're adding elite playmaking from the big man slot.
-You have Holmes/Barnes/Bagley/Len/Lamb and the FRP's to figure out how to fix the forward slots. Still assets to work with (and McNair needs to fix)

Sabonis impact metrics are off the charts good this season too. He wasn't an all-star, but he certainly still had all-star level impact across the board.

It really is painful to lose a young player a year and a half into his tenure that we all really liked but this team is drowning. Sabonis is pretty clearly going to contribute and be the best player Fox has played with. It still leaves a lot of question marks and accelerates the need to make decisive moves to not just taste the playoffs but to secure a top 6 seed next year. Which feels like a tough ask when Monte has been so conservative over the last year and a half. But at least it isn't a kick the can move and it also isn't a rearranging of the deck chairs either. And if it fails then we will have no choice but a total rebuild in 2024.

Dude has a free ticket out of basketball hell by way of UFA right in the middle of his prime. The same basketball hell he refused to even work out for some 6/7 (?) years prior. The one thing here is that Holiday is anti-covid vaccine. No im sitting up in ohio so Im not sure how restrictive you guys have been on the vaccine, but my understanding is that to play in california, you must be vaccinated. If that is true, I have to imagine, holiday will be shipped out as part of another deal, otherwise monte didnt do his homework. Thoughts?

Because we were the ones bidding on Sabonis. We weren’t trying to sell off Tyrese. We were looking to Buy something and had to pay a certain price to get it. It’s not like we were just wandering through the market looking to spend a hundred dollars in whatever way we felt like.
