Those teams didn't position stack though. Did the Hawks draft 2 PG's around Trae? Guess what Phoenix did? They drafted a production big instead of Tyrese when they already had Ayton. Whoops. Once you have a hit it out of the park talent, then you make moves around that.
Well, we just have drastically difference idea on the importance of "positions". They've never mattered less in the NBA and really haven't since the Warriors dynasty started.

Also the Suns had Booker/CP3 already in. Had they went BPA, they would have made the right call and "stacked" Hali with them. Instead, they tried to go need and gamble Smith could play the 4/5.

Spurs had Murray/White. Had they went "BPA" and "stacked" Hali with them, they'd probably be happier although Vassel has been solid enough.

Edit: one more:

We had Fox/Buddy/Bogi RFA rights. Should we have passed on Hali because he didn't fit a "need?"

Kings not entirely out of the game but they'll need Tyrese to pull his head out of his butt and a couple other guys to start giving us anything on offense.

Losing 5 of our last 6 and about to lose 6 outta 7. I don’t think we are finding anything different except maybe fox/ty/davion might not be the problem. I just don’t see the big upgrade from fox/ty to davion/ty, especially from the fox and ty will never work together crowd. My argument isn’t if one combo is better than the other, it’s the fact that the situation is the same but people see it differently. Let’s say Fox and ty start 3 games and lose. In each game fox scores 30+ and ty shoots 3/10. The argument is they can’t work together. Now imagine davion and ty start 3 games and lose all 3. In each game davion scores 30 and the ty shoots 3/10. I’d bet not a peep about chemistry. That’s all I’m saying.
I don't think anyone has said that would be the upgrade. The upgrade would be IF, we get someone in a trade that is a better fit.

They do matter in some ways, the Kings show it. You can't be too big, or too small, that porridge better be right in the middle. You better have shooters and defenders on the wing, because those are the teams you'll have to get through. And Utah learned even if you have a DPOY big shotblocker, that SF lined up against him who can take him outside and bomb away might just get you an early vacation.

and you certainly don't make any sort of "push" for a play in spot
But if you do you have to pick a direction and go in it. Where they are at right now is clearly directionless. What's available at the deadline is the answer. No big moves? Even if moving Fox is off the table they have to find a way to cut some salary or break up some of these deals on disgruntled players like Buddy.

Always at a severe disadvantage with an owner who just doesn't get it. Tough job for those having to work for that guy
