Predict the Starting Lineup / Rotation

#91
The Kings set records for bad defense last year.
That means the two worst defenders get less minutes. They would be Hield and Bagley.
Mitchell is one of the best defenders the Kings have seen in awhile so he gets minutes.
Fox leads the team, Halliburton has earned the right to start. Barnes is a steady player and a good defender. Holmes is a better defender than people realize. The 3 guard, Barnes, Holmes line up is the best defensive group the Kings have. They may be over matched for size at times. Bring in Len and Thompson. They could try 3 guards and 2 centers. It should be interesting at least.

If the Kings insist on starting Hield and Bagley together, I will probably stop watching them. No one can win in the NBA with two bad defenders.
yeah so what is your measure of worst defenders? Per defensive net rating the worst defenders are:

1) Fox. 118
2) Bagley. 116.5
3) Haliburton 116.4
4) Metu. 116.4
5) Hield. 116.3
6) Barnes 116.2.
And causes a myriad of new ones. Trading a better player for Simmons makes no sense
not certain Fox is a better player than Mitchell much less Simmons given his defensive weaknesses.

lol….. the hottest of hot takes.

I’d love for you to be able to “I told you so” on this one though. Mitchell coming in better than Fox is a good problem to have!

Although why you’re stuck on bringing in a diva like Simmons who is a playoff no-show, and would probably try to force his way out as soon as his plane lands in Sac still mystifies me*.

*yes, yes… defense, playmaking ability, and roster fit. Honestly, if Simmons wasn’t such a drama causing headcase diva, or showed ANY propensity to work on his game, I’d be more intrigued…. But as it is, hard pass. Unless he makes the situation in Philly so toxic that we can get him for Buddy and change.

I think Simmons career is over. The unprofessionalism is gonna blackball him now. I hope Sixers hold him out his entire contract.

it would be hotter if I was more definitive.

Fox’s defensive rating has gotten worse the past two years. So if you count both sides of the ball saying not certain isn’t really that hot.

For all the heat Buddy and Bagley have gotten, Fox has skated by. So saying Mitchell could be better isn’t really a huge stretch. At this moment Mitchell is a better defender hands down. Haliburton is a better shooter and passer. Fox is better at driving to the basket and creating his own shot. But could Mitchell get there? Perhaps. We shall see.

btw. If we have Simmons you want Buddy. Buddy is a perfect fit next to Ben.

You position this as if Simmons is the first or only. He’s not. He’s just the next one up.

Unprofessionalism in sports, media and entertainment in general has been running rampant for a long while now.

He’s not gonna be blackballed.

for sure he’s not the first but this time seems different. I think neither side will budge and Simmons regresses from not playing game reps

Fox or Simmons is a legit debate. I’d probably go Simmons. But saying Fox Is not certain better than Mitchell is downright laughable before he plays one legit NBA game.

I'd take Simmons in a heartbeat. Sometimes, all a person needs is a change of scenery ala Webber. Sacramento is a good spot, we don't expect much. All one needs to do is bust their butt on the court to be in Sacramento fan's favor. Hell, play hard defense and they will chant your name as of right now.

perhaps but I think it is already clear Mitchell is a better defender. This statement isn’t really a stretch unless you think Mitchell will be a negative defensive rating guy

The rest remains to be seen.

Sarcasm is rarely effective on the internet. When the NBA is run by statistics, instead of the judgement of coaches I will stop watching it.
It is a game of emotion and confidence which is very difficult to judge in stats.

Fox, Mitchell and Haliburton can play defense.
Hield and Bagley suck at it.

guess you might want to consider stopping. Most NBA teams have significant analytics departments.

and if your eyes tell you Fox is a good defender even sarcasm doesn’t suffice. Fox could be a good defender but he clearly has not been.

Even Pat Riley would use stats in practice as a tool to measure defensive effort. They’d count deflections and players could earn rotational minutes with good stats.

But the eye test is important too. Especially if your eyes are attached to a brain that understands analytics.

Now that Marvin Bagless III is gone.

Fox
Haliburton
Barnes
Harkless
Holmes

Off-Night
Buddy
TT/Len (match-up dependent)
Metu- I think he gonna get some play now that Bags is out

Buddy is now the only big defensive liability. Fox hopefully puts that effort he put on that 20 second video with TT going lightweight crazy

I feel much better about Buddy's defense than about Bags'. And Buddy plays hard. His lapses aren't about lack of effort. Whereas DFox's lapses...

I certainly hope Metu gets play. Taking into account the Olympics and Summer League, he's earned it.

About that likely starting lineup - rebounding, tho! Yikes....

If Buddy embraces his new 6th man role, the Kings will be very, very dangerous. Buddy would be the bomber much like Lou WIlliams has been his whole career. Buddy could be a perennial 6th man of the year candidate and average 18+pts per game in this role. This would be huge for the Kings going forward.

Buddy and TD as the Bench Bombers.

if Buddy plays defense like game 1 we just went from 30th to the 20th projection that you had. Any better and this team might be a 6-8th seed!
