Bagley needs to hire a new trainer. His body and his game hasn't changed at all since last year. JJJ and Ayton's (with PEDs) bodies have changed significantly since last year. Both look like they've put on 20 lbs of muscle.

Recently I spent some time looking at Kings/Royals historical numbers, to see if there was a good parallel to Bagley in our past. Although he bore some resemblance to the '94 draft (Brian Grant for most stats, Smith/Funderburke for advanced stats), we were drafting 22-27 year olds who already had most of the skills they'd need. Polish them up as rookies and they'd usually be fine. Grant started 59 games as a rookie, and should have. Looking at more recent examples, he's barely like Cousins and not remotely like Hawes, so I went to bed last night having given up on finding any King to compare his stats to.

I got up this morning and realized that there was one King who had some non-statistical similarity. Both were drafted despite skill gaps, had their BBIQs questioned, and could only play one side of the game very well, but they had great physical tools and potential. I'm looking at Bagley as a rich man's offensive version of Hassan Whiteside. (How rich? I leave that to the reader to sort out.) Unfortunately, this doesn't tell us anything about what to expect. I'm sure he will get treated much better than Whiteside did, and don't anticipate him taking so long, but we've never really developed a raw big before, so... ???

Bagley does almost nothing better than Richaun Holmes, a guy we signed at the end of the free agent period for an exception. That's why you don't draft bigs that high, unless you know for certain he is a generational talent, Bagley certainly isn't.
I'm not sure he's being used to his strengths but this isn't true. There is no question that Bagley has many more skills with the ball than Holmes does. The issue is with such a guard heavy team is how can you use it to it's full extent? Holmes is a much better fit because his game is refined into a few specific areas of need, his attitude is that of a garbage man, and he's physically developed. We have to hope some of that rubs off on Bagley. For sure Bagley has to get take his physical development a lot more seriously this summer. He's obviously young but there has to be strides made there sooner than later.

In an interview, Luke Walton says he see Bagley eventually being able to play 5 positions and be “like” Giannis. This doesn’t quite fit the script for a whole bunch of posts on this thread

LOL. Makes you wonder if Walton actually believe this himself or if this is the organization telling him to say something like this. I'm not sure what's worse really....

Apparently Vlade and Co. fell victim to the Al Davis school of drafting where you just draft for athleticism and hope the skill part will work itself out. Generally speaking in a good draft you'd like to take a guy at #2 who didn't have so many flaws and things that needed to go right in order for the pick to be a good one. Some drafts where all the top guys are raw and/or underwhelming you don't have a choice....but this wasn't one of those drafts.

The jury is still out on Bagley, or at least it should be. He is only around 20 years old, and has some growing up to do. I hope his progress especially on defense begins to accelerate.

I mean, if he transforms into a completely different player than he's given any indication of at any point in his basketball life, everything's up for grabs. His passing skills are subpar for a PF, but he's going to become a 6'11" point guard. Okay...

He sure is a sight to see during some athletic moments, or running the floor.

They are different types of players, Bagley is all ready much better than him, but I fear Derrick Williams. Not that they play alike, just wasted athletic potential.

Do you have a link? I'd really like to see the entire context.

The knocks against Giannis coming to the NBA are almost identical to Bagley. Too skinny. Doesn't have good positioning on defense. Raw.

Players that are extremely athletically gifted sometimes end up in a situation where they are raw if they don't get the right coach at a young age. Giannis had Jason Kidd who knew immediately what he had and he gave him the ball and let him learn on the court.

Looks like the stans in the thread

Sac bee on twitter is where I got it....Jason Anderson story....maybe some one else can embed link
Okay... I refuse to give the SacBee even one thin dime to read their drivel so a link won't mean much. As far as Jason Anderson is concerned, I'm not impressed. Of course, I still miss Scott Howard-Cooper and Matk Kreidler. Those guys were REAL sports reporters.

stop it man, let’s compare him to Jordan as well too for absolutely no reason

Until his defense and screening improves he needs to be coming off the bench and feasting on second units.
He looks lost when he isn't being fed the ball, so pairing him with Joseph and Ariza is the best fit.
You're not wrong. I'm struggling between letting him develop and admitting that there are more readily equipped players on the roster that can better facilitate winning now. He has such a high ceiling..

Bagley’s “low IQ” mistakes are experiential. It’s stuff like reaching in the front court, not knowing a star player’s go-to move, or getting confused on a rotation. As opposed to Buddy, who makes fundamental errors like one-hand passes in crunch time and getting beat back door 10 times a game.

What sets him apart is the touch he shows on his jump shot, and his really nice handle for a big his age. He does need to add at least 20 pounds. I think that will come this next summer.

Bagley looks weak, doesn't go up strong to score or rebound. He has a long way to go to be an impact player in the league.

I am shocked at the fact we lose Fox and Bagley to injuries but get better, they come back then we lose Bogdan and get worse
