Marvin Bagley III

I'm all about Luka but if I hear Bagley's name come Thursday, I'll raise an eyebrow but I won't be too disappointed.

If Porter Jr's name gets called, I have a feeling most of us are going to be throwing a $#!% fit on here. If it's Bagley, there will be some grumblings but a sense of excitement to go along with it.

My account will get suspended if we draft Porter

Obviously, it would be nice to see him learn to use his right hand more. But he is so good with his left, he will have no problems scoring. A good example is Isaiah Thomas. When he is in isolation, I know he is going left. The defender knows he is going left, everyone on both teams knows he is going left and everyone in the arena (and watching on tv) knows he is going left. Then he drives left and still gets past his man and into the lane.
Yes. Everytime he plays a new opponent they will have to make an adjustment. The thing that will define his career is how he handles those adjustments in a 7 game series. I for one think he has the motor and drive to handle that.

I guarantee he walks into the league at 15 and 9 and only goes up from there. His ceiling is 27 and 11, 1, 1 and 1. I take that and walk away laughing. This franchise can find other ways to figure the rest out.

I heart that a lot but the reality is that a player can only lift weights and get on the court so many hours a day.

Listen to De'Aaron Fox talk about video games. Heck I've read tons of stories about how into video games Doncic is. If Bagley is spending his time making music as opposed to sitting in front of a screen with a controller then I don't see the issue. Dame Lillard is probably the most successful current NBA player with a side career in hip-hop and he was just named to the First Team All-NBA. Webber and Kobe rapped too. They just weren't any good.

Even Jordan was an obsessive golfer and a noted gambler. Guys have a life beyond the court.

Now, Wayman Tisdale really was probably more into music than basketball. But Tis was also a guy who was clearly playing in the NBA because he had the size and skill and because of the paychecks, not because he was filled with fiery passion for the game. I don't get that sense with Bagley.

I loved Tizzy as a player, but IMO (as a fellow bassist) he was a better bass player than a basketball player.

My son knocked out Fox in Fortnite, apparently they do normal folk versus celebrities/athletes in that game.

Might be his crowning achievement of his young life...apart from carrying our little league team to a second straight league ‘chip!

On the nba channel their Draft HQ 2018 special they were positively EFFUSIVE about Bagley. I expected them to jump up from their chairs and CHEER when they were talking about this guy. Isaiah Thomas said the only thing he'd be concerned about with Bagley is that there is nothing to be concerned about! They also pointed out (as I have said) that the offensive wasn't geared around him like it was Ayton. Just draft Bagley and be done with it.

By the way, they also made the Turkoglu comparison with Doncic. I'll pass on that all day freaking long if Doncic is Turkoglu. How many All Star games did he play in? I liked Turk as a King, but would I draft him #2? Hell no.
Since I don't watch the show, are you talking about Isaiah Thomas or Isiah Thomas?

Yeah, but you might have drafted him #2 if you had to do the 2000 draft over again. Hedo actually leads the entire draft in Win Shares, VORP, and Box Plus/Minus. He was second in WS/48 (Redd) and third in total minuted played (Jamal Crawford, Mike Miller). In addition to Redd/Crawford/Miller you could probably make a case for Kenyon Martin, and that's about it. On balance, Hedo may have had the best career of all of them.
Sure, in 2000 maybe I would, but not in this draft in 2018!

Thomas was actually a VERY good judge of talent come draft day. Dude made a lot of great picks.

Not that I disagree with him being a historically bad GM. In fact, it was almost Rainman-esque how good he was at finding talent in the draft compared to how awful he was at everything else required of a GM.

So if the original IT is gaga over Bagley, he may be onto something.
That's the guy!

You are TRIPPING if you think Bagley lacks skills.
Dude I support Bagley but his offensive game is almost exclusively within 3ft. Even within 3 ft he almost always goes with his left hand. He can’t play team defense to save his life.....

If you draft Bagley it’s off athleticism and motor and you hope like hell he develops some polish.

And to continue with the draft show, it was Greg Anthony who was also raving with the HOFer Thomas about Bagley. He said Bagley was playing with maybe four other guys who could go in the draft who were trying to prove themselves to the NBA scouts and Bagley didn't get the ball first [when he should have]; Bagley had to go get the ball [rebound it] before he could put up a shot many times; the guards hogged the ball, and despite all of that he averaged 20 and 11. That impressed the heck out them.

Oh, they liked Doncic's BBIQ (and compared him to Turkoglu), they liked Jackson and thought he will do very well and fit into any team that drafts him, they liked Porter a TON if he didn't have injury concerns, but they were unequivocally enthusiastic when it came to Bagley.
Can we have the draft now and draft Bagley and be done with it, please? No on Turkoglu II. Yes on Bagley!

To be fair they liked everybody. Doncic was dammed with faint praise.

Of course from all the projected top 6 guys we'll draft a player with the least positional value and whose play style is the least valuable in todays league.

Not from me.

And who has no hope of becoming valuable at that position because he won't be a good defender and the chances of him being elite offensively is slim.

I think ESP47’s view is the objective one for forum wide sentiment
I've already shown historical numbers here that backed up my opinion that drafting a big man with a high pick that has shown no defensive accumen is an extremely poor choice. Given the opportunity you should always take the pottential elite offensive player which is almost assuredly never a big man going back 30 + years.

All aboard the Bagley train!!!! Him and Giles are the new breed of big men and will wreak havoc on the league. Trade a big(WCS), sign a wing, and i feel confident this team will make a 10-12 game jump in the win column. Now lets see if Joerger can pick up the pace with this young athletic team.

That’s a big IF and a concern for me
