Michael Porter Jr

I'd like to buy this narrative, but Vlade doesn't play poker. He's not a smokescreen guy. A disinformation campaign is frankly too sophisticated for him. I also contend the assertion Luka is the easy obvious choice. Based on what, conventional sentiment? Conventional thinking is usually wrong. Making a decision based on a consensus is rooted in fear, being able to absolve yourself of responsibility when the decision goes awry. So you can say, well, "Luka was the popular choice at the time, so don't blame me for taking him". This does not mean you automatically become a contrarian. But the decision needs to be made independent over the mock drafts and fan declarations. The other thing is this: Vlade is prideful over Fox and Boggy. These are two guys he got right amidst a bunch of decisions that turned out wrong. He wants to add to this. He wants to complement. Luka has overlapping skills. It is in this regard, in addition to questions about perimeter shot and athleticism, the decision to Luka becomes far less cut and dry. This is partly why I think the Kings will end up taking Bagley. Ultimately I believe there is enough sensibility and self-preservation motives in the "war room" to take a guy who checks most of the boxes.

Per Napier, by tonight Divac will have the opinion from the doc on Porter. He thinks it's better than 50-50 they go with Porter if the doc gives a green light. Why? He thinks he has the best chance of being a star, based upon his conversations with college experts.

He also thinks the Leonard-Kings talk is for morons only; find a moron room and discuss. Interestingly, a guy interviewed on 1140 prior to the Napear show said he thought the Kings were "bonkers" enough to give up the #2 for Leonard, so I guess he thinks the Kings management are part of the moron contingent.

Napier also thinks a deal is possible, but that's boilerplate this time of year.

Edit: Napier also says if he were making the decision, he'd pick Bamba.

If Vlade is seriously thinking about Porter, it just lowers my opinion of him than the unvetted, unqualified image I already have. At the end of this process I’d like to understand that this was smoke.

If the Kings take Porter, it will drive me to some sort of action (social media attack, following another team)

I hate even being placed in the position of rooting for a young man to have a career injury on this test

If we draft MPJ at #2 then Vlade isn't going to be losing his job. I guarantee Vivek is all in on a guy who shoots like Porter and if they think Porter has the highest ceiling, Guys like Vivek take chances. I mean he came to the USA with nothing right.

I think Vlade has concerns about the ceiling of Luka. Vlade seems like the kind of guy who feels secure in what he thinks even if he makes mistakes, Papa being the best example. So if he has concerns with Luka and the rest of the staff have concerns about Bagley. What are you going to do? They know that if they pick anyone else they all have question marks as well. Might as well go for MPJ

Myself on the other hand am not a risk taker. To conservative in my old age, I would take Luka and be happy. But there is a part of me that can dream what if MPJ becomes a superstar, What if he is the start of us not just being good but being great again.

I am a Kings fan, I can dream can't I??

The evaluation in Chicago with Missouri's Michael Porter Jr. was characterized as having gone well for the draft prospect. A specialist led teams, including the Kings through an evaluation of Porter's medical report. Haven't ruled out visiting teams prior to Draft, sources say.It went well.
Porter’s camp not ruling out individual workouts next week

Oops. You accidentally spelled his name correctly. I knew you were fooling all this time. :p

Be careful about making those kinds of dramatic statements. You might have to actually follow up on it. I know from years of experience that nobody around here forgets anything. ;)

Wonderful. Just when I thought the Kings had their red flag reason not to follow through with drafting this kid, now this.

There's only one pontential egregious mistake to make with the #2 selection in this draft and the Kings will likely make it by taking Porter.

Luka Dončić and Marvin Bagley may or may not develop into homerun picks, but I feel very, very confident that they won't be total mistakes.

"...characterized as having gone well for the draft prospect"? By whom? His agent? I'm not willing to take a chance. I truly do not think the Kings are either. They aren't going to come out and say so, however. Porter apparently didn't fall down or collapse in a heap so I'm pretty certain people are going to make non-committal comments. "It went well." Yeah, that's the equivalent of "both teams played hard" IMO.

I hope you're right.

Because where I'm sitting this train seems like it is barrelling down the tracks towards Michael Porter Jr and that just makes no sense to me.

I am glad you predicted the Kings will not see him for a workout next week. If they do, I will remember their not interested and it’s a smoke screen.

If it's all about skill, then bring back Jimmer.
This narrative has to stop. Jimmer was never skilled. The only skill he had was shooting. He coudnt dribble, not a good a passer, bad IQ. Doncic on the other hand is one of the most skilled / high IQ players at 6'8"/6'9" to come into the league in a long time. Not to mention, "Jimmer-like athleticism" got to be a joke right? I mean, Doncic is not prime Lebron out there, but come on.

If you dont think doncic will be a number 1 scoring option, thats totally fine, but at least make reasonable arguments for it.

Oh and by the way, you can also read up here that there are just as many top athletes as non elite athletes doing well at SF.
