Michael Porter Jr

Grant talked a TON about a lot of players, not just Fox, Jackson and Frank Mason. You're making a selective memory that is true only because hindsight is 20/20.
Yeah of course he talked about other players and talked a ton about the draft in general but he spent a lot of time on those 3 players I listed. I know and remember because I listen to his show nearly everyday. He also talked a lot about Josh Jackson, Issac, and Dennis Smith who were all projected in the same area as Fox. That was all understandable being in that the 5th Pick was highly important and it was a small group of players in the running for it.

What didn't make sense (unless he had insider info) was the daily talk about Justin Jackson and Frank Mason. Grant talked less about Mitchell, Leaf, Wilson, Ferguson, Anunoby, Patton, Collins, and the guys drafted in the middle of the first round. He did talk some about Harry Giles but it was usually about how far would he fall in the draft and who would take a gamble on him. I think Grant was surprised when the Kings drafted Giles. with the trade back.

Looking back at the 2nd round the only two guys I ever recall Grant talking about more than one time were Frank Jackson and Jordan Bell. He talked about those two a fair amount but Frank Mason was a daily subject of the show. Again, I ask who devotes that much time to a second round pick unless they know the team is very interested in that player? Again nothing wrong with that it's just reading between the lines. I think we'd all be naive to think Grant "has no idea" who the team is most interested in.

Going forward will be interesting to see if the amount of talk and/or tone of the talk around Michael Porter changes on Grant's show between now and early next week. If Porter stops being the #1 subject of conversation between him, Doug, and the guests then that's probably good news for those hoping they avoid Porter.

Hey I’m all in on Doncic, I hope they don’t burn the pick on Porter, he could turn out to be a superstar but way too high a risk. Doncic is a very safe pick, who at the very least projects to be an NBA starter for a long time, is definitely top 5 in the draft (exact position maybe debatable) and fits the Kings needs. He fits my vision of the Kings future IMHO (but I’m no GM and certainly not any kind of expert)

It sounds like the Kings are really locked in on either Bagley, Doncic or Porter.

Which is why I'm surprised that they're showing interest in Wendell Carter Jr (attended his workout and are now having him in for a meet & greet) but aren't bringing in Bamba or Jackson. I wonder if that's because those guys declined to workout for the Kings or because the Kings really aren't interested. I'd be disappointed if it's the latter but I'm guessing it's the former.

At this point I'll be relieved when the draft is over.

If Doncic is the pick I'll be okay with that. He feels like a solid double. He'll make the Kings fun to watch even as he struggles early with athletic NBA defenders. I think he'll figure things out and be a good to very good player though I'm positive one of the players taken right after him will be much bigger star. I'm okay with that.

If it's Bagley I'll wonder what it means for Giles, Cauley-Stein and Labissiere's futures with the team And I'll want to see him develop his right hand, his defensive rotations and his faceup game. But this would be my pick .

If it's Porter (either at #2 or in a trade down) I'll be frustrated and upset but hoping that he can prove me wrong by having a dominant summer league performance.

I don't wish MPJ ill as a human being, but I'm really hoping he flakes on the exam today which would hopefully be the final coffin nail in the Kings pursuit of him. I mean it sounds like even if his name WAS called #2 he would grimace because he wants to be a Chicago celebrity so bad. He does not seem like the Kings character guy from anything I've heard... more like a coddled brat. Bad teammate, all that. Very very worried and will actually be relieved if he cancels his exam again.

Who calls off one of the MOST important job interviews of your life (aka workout) because "hip spasms"??? Unbelievable. A spasm is untraceable. Comes and goes. Sorry can't make it to work today, "headache". So splitting. Similar vein as my dog ate my homework. I think a spasm would be convenient reason to back out of a scheduled appointment when in reality your back hurts. Just saying. And "unable to get out of bed? Laying it on a bit thick there, ya think?!??! The sad part is our GM probably fell for it hook line and sinker!
So you obviously don’t know what spasms are or how debilitating they are. But thanks for contributing.

It amazes me how you make personal critiques of people off limited perceptions. I get saying he looks unathletic or he’s not long or his shot is funky. But you ascribe negative personality characteristics like brat to someone you have never met. You did it with Porter and Hezonja. Do you do this often?

It has been published that Porter was a questionable teammate at Missouri - and that he has questionable adult coping skills due to being coddled. I find it believable based on his utter BS antics about his workouts/medical records. I just said I don't wish him ill, but he has been a brat in the pre-draft run up in my opinion.
Hezonja - I saw him at the Magic v Kings game and he was a disgrace. He was unprofessional, uncommitted, lazy and terrible. Evidence of my own senses was that displayed no killer instinct - no professionalism - no commitment to his craft - he was watching the game from under the basket it was incredible.

I'm sure both are fine human beings who respect their elders and hold the door for ladies. I just don't want them on my pro basketball team that's all.

Questestiobal teammate? Stop it. Everybody loved him when he got injured several players transferred. I’ve never heard of him being a bad teammate.

The party that should be flaking today is the Kings. Although I would not consider that flaking. I would consider that coming to our senses. Yes, this kid does seem self-entitled with a pencil-thin competitive streak . This helps culture how? Click on the link above and you will see instances where he stopped competing. This is Boogie-esque. Boogie would stop playing D when he was in a bad mood, usually related to not getting a shot or a foul call, or simply disrespecting the opponent. I bet this bum sits out of Summer League too.

And yet, all the rumblings still have the Kings really interested.

I don't get it.

But at this point I'm not going to be surprised to hear Adam Silver call his name at #2. Possibly the riskiest move possible and it would cement Vlade's GM career one way or another.

one thing about this - if Vlade passes on Luka... it might possibly say more about Luka than it does about Vlade. Because it is such an easy obvious default choice... and probably no NBA exec knows Luka better than Vlade.
seems more likely - all my own anxious crazy posts aside - that Vlade is in on Luka and keeping it secret from everybody except Luka. There is no chatter about Luka's camp stressing on his draft stock is there? hmmmmmmm

The cause-and-effect of these transfers is pretty questionable. In the period from April 2013-May 2017 (so BEFORE Porter had even joined the team, much less been injured) there were EIGHTEEN players to transfer out of Mizzou. EIGHTEEN. That's a program that has been in turmoil and upheaval for four full years before Porter got hurt.

How about the several players (well, if "two" is "several") that transferred after he got hurt?

C.J. Roberts - transferred because he wasn't getting playing time.
Blake Harris - had issues with head coach Cuonzo Martin.

It's not like Porter got hurt and dudes were like, "Aw, man, Porter's not playing, I'm outta here." Don't be silly.

I'd like to buy this narrative, but Vlade doesn't play poker. He's not a smokescreen guy. A disinformation campaign is frankly too sophisticated for him. I also contend the assertion Luka is the easy obvious choice. Based on what, conventional sentiment? Conventional thinking is usually wrong. Making a decision based on a consensus is rooted in fear, being able to absolve yourself of responsibility when the decision goes awry. So you can say, well, "Luka was the popular choice at the time, so don't blame me for taking him". This does not mean you automatically become a contrarian. But the decision needs to be made independent over the mock drafts and fan declarations. The other thing is this: Vlade is prideful over Fox and Boggy. These are two guys he got right amidst a bunch of decisions that turned out wrong. He wants to add to this. He wants to complement. Luka has overlapping skills. It is in this regard, in addition to questions about perimeter shot and athleticism, the decision to Luka becomes far less cut and dry. This is partly why I think the Kings will end up taking Bagley. Ultimately I believe there is enough sensibility and self-preservation motives in the "war room" to take a guy who checks most of the boxes.
