MPJ, a guy whom I already view as playing upright and stiff, and to have all of these medical mysteries is just a player I would not touch with any pick 2-7 in this draft. This may be a freezing cold take in a couple years, but I'd be ok with that.
This really does have Oden written all over it. And the fact that it's a back and not a knee or a wrist is about 10x more concerning. Your whole system is tied to your back, so every part of the body is compensating. Plus from what I understand about the surgery is it's likely a degenerative condition and not a repair. I just don't see him lasting 7 years in the NBA.
I hope I'm wrong. I really do. This is awful for him. But he should be picked where we picked Giles. NOT #2.
Who knows. But if I had to guess, it would be that he is in nowhere near NBA level basketball shape after not playing any major game minutes for 8 or 9 months. Then he starts working out hard to impress the scouts and he overexerted himself.
Regardless, no team wants to evaluate a player to see how one injury is holding up, only to hear that there is another injury too. No bueno.
I've wanted to have MPJ on this team for several years now but I am starting to feel like your assessment is spot on. The risk may be too great. Take Bagley
Former Missouri forward Michael Porter Jr. canceled his second pro day in Chicago on Friday because of a strained hip, sources told ESPN. Porter couldn't get out of bed because of muscle spasms, according to the sources.
Either this, or he's gaming the system because he really wants to play somewhere farther down the draft. Either way, I see too many glaring red lights.
As much as I'd like my Mizzou and Kings worlds to come together, I think the FO needs to give MPJ a hard pass. Its Doncic for me.
I would just like to remind everyone our GM wanted to give Wes Matthew a max contract after he snapped his Achilles and at the time said "injuries are part of the game" not differentiating between a sprained ankle and a devastating career-altering (ending) event.
Our GM also had the same back injury as MPJ and I am sure he is thinking "didn't slow me down", never mind that Vlade couldn't jump over a phone book towards the later half of his career.
If there aren't deafening alarms going off right now in everybody's head, people just aren't paying attention. This is a KID, not some little old lady who wakes up in the morning with aches and pains. As Blob referenced above, they're saying he couldn't get out of bed? Good grief. Do not walk away from him...RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!
I think moving up to 2 was actually a curse in disguise for us fans. I think if they stayed put at 7/8 we all wouldn’t be collectively losing our crap right now lol
Oh please. If we were 7/8 we'd be even more of a mess. Remember all the conjecture/panic about our fears that someone would steal Fox? This fanbase is always gonna be one little step away from the edge. It all started in 2002 and I don't see it ending until we get past the WCF.

I think whoever drafts him should think about putting him on the shelf for at least a half year or the entire next year and rehab his back, like what Embidd, SImmons, Griffin and Giles did with their injury. Strengthen his core for a whole year and come back fresh and 110% the next year.
If he can establish his health without the pressure of coming back too soon, he could be special, but I don't think the Kings can take that type of risk and time (no 2019 1st round draft pick).
Who calls off one of the MOST important job interviews of your life (aka workout) because "hip spasms"??? Unbelievable. A spasm is untraceable. Comes and goes. Sorry can't make it to work today, "headache". So splitting. Similar vein as my dog ate my homework. I think a spasm would be convenient reason to back out of a scheduled appointment when in reality your back hurts. Just saying. And "unable to get out of bed? Laying it on a bit thick there, ya think?!??! The sad part is our GM probably fell for it hook line and sinker!
