Don't know this author and don't like the Post but here is view about the coach:

Some on this board have articulated it better.
His answe is to put Green at the 5? When they have gone small in the last two games during the 4th, they have lost the big leads. They start getting killed on the boards and in the paint. And you can put anyone at center but they don't really get many touches on offense. Not that Jordan needs touches, but Cuz has nothing run for him.

I agree that there is some mismatched lineups though. If I was to be critical of someone on that team, I'd zero in on Durant defensively and offensively. Defensively he's been very poor.

I'm somewhat curious about the context of that conversation. If you are broadcasting a game between Argentina vs. Spain, why would you be taking the time to roast Cousins?
He was roasting him and Jordan cause they can't defend pick n rolls

I think more than anything, the strength of a lot of the international teams are the pick and roll game and USA came in to the conversation because the bigs struggle to cover the pick and roll and therefore Cousins came in to the conversation along with DeAndre.

OK, that is a little different than singling out Cousins.
I think most are primarily focused on Cousins because he is the starter and that more often than not gets the bulk of the blame. Most will follow up with a little bit on how DeAndre is getting pulled out of the key and exploited the same way too but for the first reason I said it doesn't get as much attention.

It does surprise me though how little is talked about how Kyrie is not doing them any favors, pretty sure this is because most already know him as a poor defender and expect the "hub" of the defense to be the center and cover up for his mistakes. Good luck with that with how skilled these teams are at moving the ball!

and I didn't hear what Fran said, but trying to dump all the P&R problems at Cuz and DJ's feet is pretty ignorant

they are getting poor work from Irving especially ahead of them, and then a huge critical and ongoing factor has been the effects of the lack of PF -- Melo, Durant etc. have been playing like complete wusses on the backside, and aren't rotating down to help at all, and when they do, not effectively. So play after play the pattern goes:

-- pick and roll
-- USA big either has to a) switch onto smaller man, or b) show for an excessively long time waiting for the guard to catch back up; or c) end up having to try both the guard and linger back far enough to cut off the pass to the big
-- while the big is thus occupied up top guarding 2 men, the "PFs" are being complete wusses, not rotating to the baseline, not fighting when they do rotate, and losing their men on backcuts. All of the above is going on behind the bigs.

End result is extended series of plays like:

-- big switches onto guard, guard beats big
-- big switches onto guard, guard throws pass into the post behind big, where nobody else has rotated onto big's man
-- big switches onto guard, guard throws pass to baseline behind big where forward's man has run right behind him to the rim
-- big shows hard on guard, guard throws pass behind big to his man who nobody has showed onto

Its a rambling wreck. But its hardly all on the bigs.

Familiar sights of the last season and Boogie gets more than his share of the blame as usual.

One nice thing about them starting Deandre this game is at least we don't have to hear about how the U.S. struggles again are Cousins' fault.

This team just doesn't function very well together. Much softness.

Boogie and Lowry in next. Have not seen much of that so far but if earlier games are any indication Lowry + anyone is infinity times better on defense.

I'm obviously rooting for USA, but a biiiiggggg part of me gets a lot satisfaction watching Kyrie getting dominated by his matchup. Never really liked Irving. He comes off as entitled to me. Might just be me...

Boogie is not the problem. USA thinks they can shoot their way into the lead and can be sloppy on defense. Sitting Boogie may have set a very big fire.

As Boogie blocks one.

**** 'em, Boogie!!

Sitting Boogie was a great move for a couple reasons. They don't need his fire power with the starters and sitting him pisses him off. :) Perhaps I should have said it motivates him.

Irving is lazy on defense and god awful when he tries. It's pretty impressive to be THAT incompetent.

I'm starting to see why Cleveland was more successful with him on the bench this year.

Takes some really good teammates and system to cover up that kind of player. Team USA doesn't practice for fear of injuries is what I read coach K said. It's fun to see the night and day different between Kyrie and Lowry. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to have any discussions about it cause YAY LOTS OF POINTS AND SWEET MOVES vs boring defense are not even on the same spectrum of importance in internet land. That's one reason I like this site, one of the few where it's possible to talk about such things!

Boogie actually got some touches tonight. Yeah, he's good Coach K.

Paul George is really good......should be on the floor quite a bit.
George, Butler and Lowry provide a defensive perimeter that is pretty damn impressive. When those three come in the game things get harder for the opposing squad..

If you squint your eyes real hard you can see the Kings squad being a poor mans version of this USA Team second unit we are seeing playing with Boogie.
