Free Agency

I may need a fact check with a capologist in here but I'm thinking we still have roughly 20 mil in cap space. Afflalo may not be the biggest piece here
You can look for yourself:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1T2Eg_zvqNqQD_5TpE4Ns6xhElatXdLpYG1roZtRLyvE/htmlview#
A mod from RealGM does an awesome job.
Math a bit complicated to pull from that spreadsheet, but I decipher here :) :
8 guaranteed contracts add up to $55,643k
3 cap holds for first-rounders are $4,026k, since all three intend to play in the NBA next season
Cap hold for Acy is $980k (keeping it allows Kings to pay him $200k more than minimum without using cap space)
$25m over 2 years for Afflalo might mean starting at $12,225k with a 4.5% for the second year or just $12.5m each year.
Going with more favourable contract, Kings seem to have around $21.1m in space, plus Room Exception - 2-year contract, starting at $2.8m and $5.8m overall.
Just a reminder, if Kings would like to bring Seth back it almost 100% will have to be with cap space, so anything close to $20m for Anderson means no Curry back. Obviously Rondo being back means no Anderson, though Curry will likely fit into cap space as long as Kings are willing to match.

Edit: Kings can renounce that Acy cap hold and bump that space up to $21.5m.

Yo
If our plan this off-season is to let Rondo go, trade Rudy Gay, and spend our cap-space on Arron Afflalo and Courtney Lee than we should probably just trade Cousins too while we're at it. We're nowhere near competitive with this roster and we're moving backward.
u want to see what we get for Rudy first? What if its a starting caliber PG?

wouldn't be opposed to Brandon Jennings at PG. Would be a risk but he averaged 15 & 7 only a couple years ago. 2 year contract I think he'd take since he'd get back on the market at 28.

We had a starting caliber PG last season. Either way we're down a starter. Rudy Gay didn't have a good year last season, but the year before he was a 21pt/6reb/4ast guy and shot 36% from three alongside Cousins. How are we going to replace that production?

I'm sure on the 2nd say of free agency with 20 mil in cap space and no trades yet that we are done. This is final roster. Geez get a grip you are annoying

"Arron Afflalo ranked 2nd behind only Russell Westbrook in post up scoring among guards, but ranked 1st shooting 53% going 1-on-1 down low."

From synergy sport
Ben better hope he's leaving the squad because he still probably has nightmares of when Aaron did it to him in the games they played a few years ago. To have to put up with that in practice every day would be torture. :D

I don't think that in the event Gay is traded, it will be for a bag of chips.

Afflalo didn't have a good tenure in NY. Not the defender he once was and for some reason strangely became a ball stopper in the triangle. Had some injuries that undoubtedly slowed him down as well.

Still not a bad short term signing. Hopefully Joerger and good health can get him back to being a decent defender.

My comment isn't in regard to the current roster, it's in regard to everything that has been reported so far and 20 years of following this team. Remember when we were coming off two disappointing playoff losses in a row in 2004 and our big signing was Greg Ostertag? Or Shareef Abdur Rahim with no knees the next year? John Salmons the year after that? I guess that's on me for expecting things to be different. Watching other teams sign key free agents the past 2 days who are going to push them into contention while we scrape the bargain bin and unload the few productive players we do have feels like a kick in the nuts.

I think you are overrating this free agent class. Few players signed in the past days are going to turn bad teams into contenders or push their new teams over the hump.

But we still have 20 mil and we have no idea who might be traded or who for. Is afflalo not an upgrade over Marco or Ben? I say yes. Vlade has yet to downgrade in any move he has done. Let's just see what happens from here. Sorry I said you were annoying

Kinda. I understand very well. All we can do is do intelligent things. So far our perception coming out of the draft is not good. I disagree that our draft was that bad but don't want an argument. We need to build our reputation to become a destination team. It can be done with the staff we have and an owner who has learned he is not the center of the show.

Afflao once could play defense and so could Rondo. I am curious as to opinions on this: I think a defensive minded coach can make something of guys who know how to play defense but are losing their physical abilities. Being a vet is worth something. And, no, I don't want Rondo back.

Vlade is quiet and I will bet he has some solid trades in mind. I want to like Gay but he bugs me. If he had a solid three pt. shot, I'd fall back in love but that's not going to happen. He is NOT worthless as to trade. Neither is Koufos and although I kinda like Kosta, he is a victim of numbers. If we can't get a decent player with Gay, Koufos and Ben as trade pieces, I will have a crap fit. We need to sign Curry. He has value to this team not as a starter but as a three pt shooting backup. I have faith in his DNA.

I doubt it but will see, he's been living of his image as a defender for years but he's playing bad defense since his 2nd season in Orlando.

It's on a 2 year contract so that's a positive, but it's not a huge improvement to the roster.

It's a spur of the moment thing, no offense taken. :) There's a good chance I'm overreacting to twitter nonsense, but going into this summer I thought we had one chance to come back as a better team next year: keep one or both of Rondo and Gay and upgrade at least one position significantly. I don't see how we'll be competitive if we lose both of them. Afflalo/McLemore is an upgrade over McLemore/Belinelli but it cost us 6 million to do it. Swapping out McLemore for Lee -- eh, you're talking about two similar players on opposite ends of the career arc. This may be the season where they switch places. Those are small lateral moves though -- it's the big picture stuff that I'm just not seeing. Rudy Gay is a building block on this team. You really need to be getting something big back for him and that's not happening in a trade with Indiana (which is probably why no trade has been announced yet). Rondo was the second best player on the team last year. I know a a large number of Kings fans don't want him back at any price, but I see very few obtainable PGs who would actually be considered an upgrade.

Honestly, I'd rather we just bring last year's team back with an influx of rookies and a new coach and see if all that potential we saw last summer was really an illusion or if George Karl killed the team. Because I was re-watching some Kings games from early last season -- November and December -- and we actually looked really good. Granted that was when Ben and Marco were still hitting shots and Casspi was on fire, but maybe we were close to turning the corner? I hate feeling like we're leaving potential on the table.

Ha! I was thinking that he improves the team by being a designated starter and taking THAT mystery out of the sg position. Not sure how much that is worth.

Bench players made 7-8 mil last year. At 12.5 that is likely the range of a good bench player. Now get crabbe with afflalo afflalo off the bench. Trade Rudy and Ben for knight/Bledsoe and pj tucker and we have a good base

Bledsoe/collison/curry
Crabbe/afflalo
Tucker/casspi
Wcs/?
Cousins/kosta

Then the drafted guys

Free agent Ryan Anderson plans to sign a four-year, $80M deal with the Houston Rockets, league sources tell @TheVertical
I was never a fan of trading Anderson. Magoofs offered him more money than the Pelicans did, and he still signed them over us. Now, he picks the Rockets over us.

Glad he didn't come here at that price tag.

This is where I'm at.

I kinda like Anderson, but I'm fine with him joining Houston for that money. I didn't want to pay him that much.
It wasn't your money. We needed him next to Cousins. Tough blow. Anderson betrays his hometown to go play with a ball-hog. And I bet the money we offered was equal or greater.
