I'll be honest. I don't like this trade unless the #22 is packaged with #8 to get an impact player.
Depending if we take any Hornet in return, we will be clearing his $6 million+ contract off the books. The #22 pick will earn about $1.1 million, so that's roughly $4.9 million in new cap space if we haven't taken anyone on in the deal.
If don't draft a guard with #8, then at #22 we have all seen the likes of Valentine, Beasley, D Murray, Korkmaz and co be drafted around that spot. Adding a young talent with upside could be a good move for us over a player who didn't do much for us last season. Plus, their contract is a bargain under the new salary cap, and the cap space create should help us in free agency.
