Dave Joerger has agreed to a deal in principle to become the new Sacramento Kings coach, league sources tell @TheVertical.

Official press release from the Kings:

Sacramento Kings Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Vlade Divac today named Dave Joerger as the team’s new head coach.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dave to the Sacramento Kings,” said Divac. “He is a strong and passionate leader with a proven track record of producing results. Dave shares our focus on creating a long-term culture of winning and I look forward to a bright future ahead for the Kings with his leadership on the court.”

Joerger joins the Kings after spending the previous three years as head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, where he accrued a 147-99 regular season mark (.598) and guided the franchise to postseason berths in each of his seasons at the helm.

I think it may be simpler than that.

If you can coax the whole family onto your plane and keep it in flight, you can kidnap them and make it physically impossible for your preferred coach to sign with anybody else. Then you bring in your scary twitchy little Buscemi/Pesci like owner to scare the beejesus out of him, and when he finally breaks down and agrees to sign, you can keep the rest of his family hostage back on the plane to make sure he goes through with it

Lets hope there is no horses head in anyone's bed ;)

Man, I had a crapty weekend. This was needed.

Not only did we get a great coach, I think we got literally the best coach we possibly could have gotten for our team. A defensive minded coach who also is a good offensive mind but is willing to work a system around the players he has not the players he wants. Like, that is literally everything we have been clamoring for in a coach. If he also brings Elston Turner back with him, it's like getting two head coaches.

I know we, as fans, had our hopes up before, but this just feels different. Step out of Vlade's way and watch miracles happen. What a get! VladFather cleaning house and establishing cohesive culture from top-down.

EDIT: Something just occurred to me - remember who DMC always said was the toughest to play against? MGasol/ZBo! I'm sure he's thrilled to have their coach now.

Congrats vlade on a great coaching search. It seems that it was done right. Very thorough and NO LEAKS!

As a cousins fan I'm 100% behind this coach. If for any reason cousins cannot get it together under Joerger then he just needs to go. The time has come to get it together.....
I hope the FO conveys to the entire team, they are 100% behind this guy. You cause trouble or for any reason quit on this guy, your outta here.

most excellent. i'm a big fan of the hire. it sure is nice to see the kings "get it right" for a change; dave joerger brings with him a very strong defensive philosophy and an understanding of how to play to a roster's strengths while still integrating principles associated with the "pace and space" movement of nba basketball. vlade's almost-comically deliberate coaching search has clearly paid off. :)

Its........HAPPENING!!!!!

Last summer Vlade drafted a defensive stud rookie. Went after another solid defensive big in Koufos. Attempted to get us a 3 and D player in Wes.

This summer, Vlade has gone out and gotten us a defense first head coach. I for one am super excited to see what other moves the Vladfather has up his sleeves. Our GM may be putting out the dumpster fire, and putting in some work!

Time for the Kings to lock a mutha luva up!!!!

Welcome aboard Joerger! #onthesamepage!!
