Vlade Divac

Being the executive and a new one at that, of a historically bad small market team, he did pretty well with the limited resources he had.

This team has been bad for so long, he had nothing to lose by doing what he did. Therefore, he certainly deserves kudos.

Get Rim protector and defensive big - MCS , Koufos Double check!
Get Star PG - Rondo Check
Resign fan favorite - Casspi Check
Get Stretch 4 - Dukan Check
Get some 3 pt shooters - Butler,Marcos,Anderson,Seth Quadruple check!!!!

You are so awesome Vlade!!!!!!
Definitely agree on the defensive bigs and fan favorites. Rondo isntba star pg anymore but if he can improve on last year, he definitely added another ball handler and passer.

Don't totally agree on the shooter. Butler and Seth are good shooters but may never see the court. Marco is a really good shooter but it's probably him or Mac on the court at one time and with rondo playing, we lose a shooter on the court. Dukan may be a stretch 4 in Reno so not sure he does much to fill that role for our team.

All told, a really smart offseason which should lead to a much improved team. May still be on the outside looking in on the playoffs but the best team we've seen in years

As for our shooters, this is how I see it from last year to this year.

PG - Rondo/Collison vs Collison/Sessions/McCallum (Miller)
Better last year.
Collison saw the floor for 35 minutes and was a good floor spacer at PG. This year, Rondo will be cutting into a lot of those PG minutes making our shooting from this position worse

SG - McLemore/Belinelli/Collison vs. McLemore/Stauskas
Better this year.
An improved McLemore and a Belinelli/Stauskas swap gives us much improved shooting compared to last year. Not to mention Collison will likely see time at SG and help out our shooting as well.

SF - Gay/Casspi/Butler vs. Gay/Casspi/Williams
Better this year.
I think all of these guys will see floor time with Gay and Casspi seeing time at PF. With that being said, the upgrade from Butler to Williams is there. Not to mention Casspi found his stroke towards the end of the season, so it's possibly that we get a good shooting Casspi all season.

Bigs - Cousins/Koufos/Cauley-Stein/Acy vs. Cousins/Thompson/Landry/Evans
Better last year.
Cousins, Thompson, & Landry were all able to hit down mid range jumpers. Cousins and Acy are the only bigs that will see time that have that range this year.

In your assessment, yes, Landry could shoot, but he was also hurt a LOT.

I'm sold on Marcos and Koufos. Rondo is a ? in terms of both character and ability. Butler is a ? in terms of how much is left in the tank. WCS is a ? until he's played in the NBA and I can see whether he's going to be a rather limited one dimensional weak side shot blocker or a more versatile defender/shot blocker/rebounder. The other guys are end of the bench guys and don't matter that much.

No Bonus is correct...he is hurt a lot.
Actually, he/she is not.

I was making a comparison from the shooting of this year to last year. Landry remained healthy for a large majority of the season (70 games). Not saying he was effective during those 70 games, but he played plenty to be considered in the shooting comparison.

On thing I remember, Landry played hurt/just off of injury a lot of the year... he just wasn't effective like that. And didn't he get hurt before they traded him?

Carl Landry played 33 minutes in the last game of the season. We traded him in the offseason, so barring any injury during the offseason, no he wan't hurt when he was traded.

But you're getting off topic. You said...

which to me meant "Landry could shoot, but he didn't play enough to be considered a contributor to our floor spacing last year."

Coming off of injury or playing hurt makes no difference. He contributed to our big man rotation for 70 games at 17 MPG and was a good mid-range shooter. Therefore, he was included in the original analysis.

Is there anything else to discuss?

He had surgery in the offseason

Vlade is a beast.

This roster is a mix of young and old, defense and shooting, passers and cutters and scorers and playmakers...

We have a team that should be vastly improved over last season, and is still young enough to grow.

There are definite weaknesses to the roster, as discussed in other threads... injuries to one of our PGs or bigs could have us over reliant on a kid .

But no roster is perfect, and ours took a huge leap this summer.

Its been awhile since we've actually had needs addressed. Petrie was a castrated cost cutter his final years here, and PDA.....Let's just say if he put half as much energy into being a GM as he put into being a snake he might have been half the GM that Vlade is.

Not only am I psyched about this upcoming season, but I am psyched about the future with Vlade at the helm. This guy is going to keep making good moves for as long as Vivek let's him.

In Vlade we trust!
