Kings and free agency - part 2

Props to Vlade and co for at trying. But, IMO, we just dodged a bullet there.
Affalo was nice at $16M for 2 years. But $16M per year for a guy with almost same skillset as Affalo just would not make sense to me.

My suggestion for Vlade is to use his money to sign 3 players (1 at $11M, 1 at $10M, and another at $5M)
If DMC ($14M per)is your franchise player, his supporting cast should be nowhere near $14M.
That would make your franchise player happy.

Few wing players we should look into are: Lou Williasm, Mo Williams, Shved (nice stint in NY), Belinelli, Ben Gordon(bench vet), KJ McDaniels and J-Rich (bench vet).
Big men: Big Baby Davis, McGee, Elton Brand (bench vet), Charlie V. (vet min), Bargniani (probably nice piece to entice other Italian like Belinilli).
I'd rather have Nik, JT and Landry (plus the draft assets) than most of those players.

Short smaller contracts for some of those guys could help, but why would they come here?

No, they have the right to swap in both drafts, 2016 and 2017. It's not either or. It's both. What happens if we finish with the 10th spot in the draft and get a top 3 pick by the ping pongs? Still going to defend this trade as no risk?
Ok, I stand corrected. But yes, that is the risk.

You're telling me you'd rather not take that risk, hold on to our picks for dear life, not try to sign a major impact free agent. Hope we get Rondo regardless, etc.

So you're not a fan of the salary dump move? Or are you just playing devil's advocate. Let me start asking the questions now.

This team has been cautious, think small for far too long. Even if the result was the same this isn't Iggy 2.0 because there's still plenty of ways to make this team better with the space we've cleared. The core is intact, we aren't tossing a Reke or even an IT aside here. Nobody we lost is unique in any way. Hopefully if we can't sign guys that will impact the team we don't make poor moves that will harm us next year. We can be players at the trade deadline. Maybe give a guy a huge one year deal if we have to. Plenty more shenanigans will be going on over the next 12 months.
Wait, how are we going to be players at the deadline without any assets to trade? Take overpaid players from contenders so they can free space? So...just replace what we just spent 3 years of our future to get rid of?

It was a good gamble. We have flexibility in trades and room to improve our non existent bench. Only winning will repair what has been done.

Either it works and we are winning or it does not and we trade boogie for picks and young talent. In this scenario we won't be losing our picks until we don't suck. Sounds like we shafted only if the sixers are out of the lottery by 2018. I don't see that happening unless they use assets to trade for talent. We will happen to have the best talent avail at that point.

uhh.. you don't start hanging out big salaries and going back to where we were before with mediocre cap strangling contracts that we just gave a kings ransom to get rid of. 11m, 10m, 5m? cmon man

????

How many times do I have to go over this?

We traded those 3 players AND a 2018 (or potentially 2019 if Bulls get our 2017 pick) 1st round pick AND the right to swap picks in the next two drafts. Stop looking at just the players we traded. The draft is our future. Or was our future. Every single small market team has built from smart trades and the draft. They hardly EVER sign big fish. You sign role players to surround those big fish that you trade for or drafted.
Do you realize that the trade doesn't happen without giving them the pick(s)? Nobody has wanted Jason Thompson for 2 years. Nobody wants a damaged, overpaid Carl Landry. Also, you're whining about 2+ years from now. Like others have said, if we're in the position where that matters, we have a lot more issues than this trade.

watch a real pro in action when sam hinkie parlays landry, thompson into more assets for his perpetual rebuild. they will be worth something in a year when they're heading into the final year of the contract.

did vivek tell free agent's in the meetings that he has some software that will help them make decisions based on analytics so they don't actually have to think?

Well I agree none of these name I mentioned deserved anything more than $8M. It should just be take a look at these guys to fill the bench.

Hall of Famer
I simply said that some of the fans that were complaining about the possibility of signing Matthews -- for some of the reasons you just stated -- are now bashing the Kings because it didn't work out
And that's probably because whether you want Monta or not or want Wes or not, getting rejected by two of our top three targets while offering more money than anyone else goes directly back to the chaos and toxic situation created by the....Kings. And that's both a different issue and a more concerning issue.

I personally am most concerned that we appear to be too weak to fire Karl and will head into the season with him. If so, we better pray we have a good team to put out there in the slightest of hope Cuz/Karl could start winning and feel good about working together. Put a bad team out there and that's a grenade waiting to explode. Whether missing on Monta or Matthews, it's just another blow, another hurdle that makes it that much tougher to do that, and that too goes back to the Kings and the situation they(Vivek) has created.

I'm absolutely not a fan of the move. We had 10M in cap space to work with. We could have absorbed a contract. Traded the same package of players and picks for a player that was GUARANTEED to come here regardless. It's like we said LET'S DO IT SACRAMENTO!!!! without drawing up plans before hand.

Yes, we'll be forced to take their #4.

And won't matter anyway. If we are in that position then the game has been lost and Cuz is gone. All resources have to be fully mobilized to prevent that occuring. If it does its 6 more years of darkness.

Agree.. Can't stand when people are saying we're trading away the future.. If we're in that position in 2018 or whatever then we are already doomed and Cuz would be gone anyway..
