Kings and free agency - part 2

Entity

Hall of Famer
Is this the first time there's no leaks about the organization?! I really wonder how the Wesley Matthews meeting went..
Funny you say that because the trade last night got me thinking. We heard NOTHING about that and as you stated nothing on the wes meeting. Makes you think maybe all of that other per draft stuff was completely fabricated

You don't say? :D
We'll never exactly know who, but at least we've figured out why. Kinda.

That might be the first time since draft day that anybody has used the term "damnit" about not being able to get TRob. the good news is that at the rate he's going, he will have played for every team in the league by 2020, so everybody should get their fair dose.
Mock if you must, but Thomas Robinson was a productive player this season (15.29 PER on the year but a 19.3 PER in 22 games with Philadelphia) and he cost Brooklyn almost nothing to sign. We have two rookies (Eric Moreland played 3 min last season so he counts as a rookie) and DeMarcus Cousins in our frontcourt rotation and we're talking about spending $24 million on our backcourt. So yeah I count this as a big missed opportunity for us.

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA
Free agent center Robin Lopez discussing deal with Knicks that would earn him in range of $12M-$13M per season, league sources tell Yahoo.

There goes another target... though it was fairly obvious and we didn;t really needed him anyway...

EDIT: my bad, it's not final- misread it..
If Phil Jackson keep these types of contracts up, he's going to have to buy some Tarn-X to clean off his legacy.

As I said before, if you're an above average NBA player, you get 12-15mil.

thus, Wes Matthews at that price is not a concern, assuming his physical checks out.
No doubt about that if he is health that's a bargain, the only thing I'm worried about is what you do in the (fairly possible) case the Medical stuff comes with a diagnosis of "inconclusive"- would you still go ahead and sign him?

Stein saying we offered 3 for 45. Not sure if that gets it done, but Dallas was hesitant to go beyond 12, and Toronto is inundated with wings. If Dallas gets to 15 he'll probably go there. I would guess if Jordan goes to Dallas they bite the bullett and pay Wes and we lose. If Jordan stays in L.A. Dallas probably get's more protective of their space and holds off on pushing up to 15m and we win.

Hate feeling like we're being leveraged, but when your offer is made public this quickly it sure winds up feeling that way.

Don't sleep on Portland, LMA is taking is sweet time to decide, and if he's gonna stay in Portland (Lilard flew to meet with him in LA) I'm pretty sure they'll go all-in on retaining Matthews...

That actually seems kind of lowball. Why not go 4 years and $54 million? That gives him the security of a 4th year and the first year salary would be only 12 million not 14 million. It helps us and it helps him. Unless he wants a 3 year deal, to cash in again once the cap goes up.
