The 2015 KF.com Draft Big Board Part 2: Kings' Range

People keep saying this, but I'm not sure it's worth spending assets to dump Landrys deal unless you really think there's someone you can get with the cap space. How much could we save just by stretching him? Just doesn't seem to be the best use of the pick, IMHO, especially with the cap set to jump.

I agree. Landry isn't really helping us all that much, but he's not hurting us that much either and he only has two years left on his deal. I'd rather use his salary for a more productive bench PF, but not bad enough to trade down just to get rid of him.

If Russell is there at #3 or #4, what do you think it would take, coupled with #6, to move into one of those slots to nab him?
I don't think it's worth trading up this year personally. Collison and #6 is a decent package for somebody but I don't see anyone in this draft that I would give up our PG and lottery pick for. Russell is a talented player but so are Emmanuel Mudiay, Justise Winslow, Willie Cauley-Stein, Stanley Johnson, and Myles Turner. One of those guys is guaranteed to be there. We have so few assets as it is and we're probably losing next year's first-round pick to Chicago. Unless we're somehow packaging the pick for Nerlens Noel, we're better off just drafting at #6 and developing whoever we can get there. I'd actually like us to pick up a second top 10 pick so we can take a wing player and a big, hedge our bets a bit. But I feel that way every year pretty much.

c-webb, you and I have got to stick together. I think we're the club of 2 on this board with this point of view.:) Can we find a third musketeer?:)
hahaha Yeah its appears nobody else shares out viewpoints! Its not that I dont think WCS will be a good player or bad player either, im just wondering how he is going to fit with our team in the immediate future before he develops. If you want to make a playoff run within the next year or so it wouldn't be wise to rely on a rookie or sophmore to provide you defense and shot blocking!

every mock ive seen, from CBS to ESPN has us taking WCS and our biggest roadblock is Orlando. 1-4 will sort themselves out but that 5th pick man, god dam orlando i feel will jip us

Time to support Chad Ford in his still unquenchable thirst to pump up the value of European players.
Since a part of FO perfected mastery of spreading misinformation widely, might as well use it to make it known around the league, that Kings don't like players with unusual middle names. ;)

I wish I could find a web page that tracks previous years' mock draft and then compared those mocks to how it actually turned out.

The top of the draft goes the way of mocks usually. The top 3 picks in this years are basically a formality. In any case Orlando does have a need for rim protection and there is some talk of Boston trying to trade up to get WCS

I watch this almost every year and the final mock that draftexpress puts out on the morning of the draft is usually spot on for 1-8 or 1-10. I assume they have quite a few insiders working for them.

So I stick with draftexpress. Best NBA draft site out there.

He is an Orlando insider. Putting unexpected guys in top-4 would benefit his favorite team. His main argument is that Knicks pitched tent in Lexington to watch WCS, when Willie was a "casualty" of them looking at KAT.

Agreed, though the Knicks could also be a roadblock of sorts. If the top three are Towns, Okafor and Russell, that leaves Mudiay as the remaining player from the consensus top four. He seems to be the choice of many at #4; however, I have seen people question Mudiay's fit in Phil Jackson's triangle offense, though whether the Knicks build around this system would be speculation I suspect. That said, if they do pass on Mudiay because he doesn't "fit" the triangle, they could be a contender for WCS to give them that stud center, or perhaps they end up taking Winslow leaving Orlando with the choice on if they pass or take Mudiay, which may influence them to draft a big (hopefully Porzingis) if they decide that Payton is their long term choice at PG - in that scenario it could leave us with Mudiay or WCS.

I would be very happy if Mudiay or WCS is available at #6, though I wouldn't envy the person having to make the decision on which one to pick. But if Mudiay goes to the Knicks, hopefully Orlando takes Winslow or Porzingis, leaving us with the opportunity draft WCS.

Alex Martins, Magic CEO, gave a quote today, that FO "won't let Magic fans down by bringing in a foreign prospect who isn't interesting in coming over right away". Official Magic twitter posts links to articles about FA frontcourt options for Orlando (Amir Johnson is not in any of those articles). My guess is that Porzingis is their guy at the moment.

I have a feeling Myles turner will be our pick. Decent defender and can shoot. Pretty much what we need from the PF spot.

Exactly! I dont doubt WCS will be a fine defensive role player in maybe 3 years or so but that fact is he is going to be a big liability on the offensive end. His rebounding rate was TERRIBLE this past season and that was against the weak competition in college. Hes also just terrible on offense, lazy in transition, easily fatigued, and plays defense more like its just a game of volleyball and nothing more.

Our bench needs help and WCS is not going to cut it, trade that pick and shore up the bench! I have a feeling WCS like all rookies is going to struggle his first year or two as he adjusts and if thats the case then he isnt going to be much help and we may be going into next season with practically the same squad.

but with that said, we are probably going to draft him so i guess ill pray he becomes something special :p
I have no idea what your talking about. Either that, or you weren't watching Cauley-Stein. He's one of the best pick and roll defenders for a big man that I've ever seen. His offense wasn't terrible. It may have been non existent at times, due to the way Calapari wanted him to play, but it wasn't terrible. He shot just a tad under 60% from the floor for his career at Kentucky. If that's terrible, I'll take it. He's a terrific man defender on the perimeter. Maybe you were watching someone else. Or maybe, your post is a joke, and I just missed it. He will be something special on defense. All he has to do is be adequate on offense.

Let me ask you a question. Would you trade the pick straight up for DeAndre Jordan? If so, I would like to remind you that Jordan has little or no offense other than the same things Cauley-Stein is known for. Cauley-Stein is a better athlete than Jordan, and he's little taller than Jordan, and could well become the defensive presence that Jordan is. And he might eventually be a better offensive player than Jordan. He's already a better freethrow shooter, although that's not saying very much. It might take Stein a little while to adapt to the NBA, but it won't take two or three years. Defensively, he's ready to play right now. Offensively it's going to take a little time. His rebounding is up there with Okafor or Towns, but remember that he played along side of Towns who was a rebounding machine grabbing them at 12.7 per 40. Okafor was at 11.2 per 40, and while were at it, Myles Turner grabbed 11.7 per 40, while Stein came in at 9.8 per 40. But Stein was asked to play more on the perimeter this last season, which hurt his rebounding, and also hurt his shotblocking.

JT moves much better, so I assume Turner will be murdered going out on perimeter.
Turner was just horrible defending the pick and roll. Not for lack of effort, it's that he doesn't have the lateral quickness. He's an excellent post defender, but you don't want him defending out away from the basket.

The only player I would trade up for is Towns. The best offer I would make would be the 6th pick and McLemore. At this point in time, unless we have some sort of trade in the works, I wouldn't trade Collison. PG may not be one of our strengths, but it's not a weakness either. Trade McLemore, and sign a SG in freeagency to fill the spot until Stauskas is ready. Or just stay pat and pick Cauley-Stein.

Wow... I didn't even see that post by c-webb1s#1... Gave me a laugh though. Everything he posted about WCS is completely wrong, as is he was watching someone else and thinking that player were WCS? No idea....

I am on the WCS bandwagon, so that must be a good thing eh? lol. He's going to be a King and we will finally get our Joakim Noah.

He could play C/PF
The way Turner moves.... I just don't see him being able to guard quick 4s (or stretch 4s) like Draymond Green, Faried, Terrence Jones, Ibaka, Griffin, etc). As a 4, Turner would be dependent on the matchup where you can stick him with the Sullinger of the world.

To be fair no one in this draft could. He would have to develop strength over the first few years

Ok if the draft goes like this, what do you do?

Assume you've got less than desirable deal offers. So you have to draft like this is our guy.

1. Towns
2. Okafor
3. Russel
4. Mudiay
5. WCS

I've narrowed it down to Winslow or Porzingis.

I think unless Winslow really made an impression I'd probably go with Porzingis myself.

Who do you draft if it goes down like this, and nothing worth taking is offered in a trade or to trade back?
