It did seem like a shot he normally makes. I don't think it was a bad play call. At the point his initial move didn't work though and the entire defense collapsed, you have 4 open players on the perimeter standing around watching. Passing it out for the open jumper is the smarter play at that point. There was time on the clock. The defenders are going to go into full panic close-out mode to prevent a three and Boogie is already in great rebounding position.
Except that, when you have four defenders surrounding you, you're unlikely to have a clean passing lane.

BTW, one of the lower % passes you can attempt to make is when you're up against the baseline with four defenders all over you. In theory it sounds easy to find the open man, in practice go down to your local gym tomorrow, have four defender all over and try to pass out. What that is is a great way to not even get a shot off as eight hands around you greatly increases a chance of a deflection.

Most bigs can't even pass out of a double team above the block.

So we wanted better ball movement in the offseason and yet we passed up Payton, who put up 12 assists with only 1 turnover...

BUT WAIT, HE CAN'T SHOOT!

Oh he shot 5/10 today? And is shooting better than the college "sharpshooter" Nik Stauskas?

Oops.
he starts though...it's a bit different when your allowed to go through mistakes and the coach won't yank you out.

This is true. Who knows how Nik would look with a longer leash. For the record, I like Nik's skill set, I still think he can develop into a scoring spark off the bench at the least.

... still, with how hard our FO was going after Rondo, you'd think they would take the Rondo-esque PG in the draft. Just another notch in the Vivek **** up belt, I suppose.

If Nik could play defense like Payton he would be starting as well, Payton earned his playing time, Nik did everything to lose his.

Generally most losing teams don't use the 8th pick in the draft to get a "scoring spark off the bench", though.

Preaching to the choir buddy.

Bench scorers are a dime a dozen in the off-season FA market. We just always seem to miff the signing (Landry, then Sessions).

Kind of why I never get excited about the draft. Besides Cousins, we always **** it up.

Cousins should have made that shot. He got an open look and got away with a travel. Rudy Gay messed up two rotations - one that led to the Frye 3 where he and Omri ended up guarding the same guy and then a bit later the Harris 3. It pains me to watch Ray McCallum play big minutes - he's just not a good player/PG. He can score, and that's about it. Even Jimmer does a better job at running an offense than Ray does. On defense he couldn't keep up with Peyton all night and every time guys rotated over to help it led to open shots/dunks for the Magic.

Don't really blame JT for this one - guarding perimeter bigs has never been his MO. Don't entirely blame DWill either, a lot of times that he got scored on he got caught helping on one of the guards and had to rotate back to his man late, or got caught on switches against Oladipo.

Ben ... nothing to say here. Orlando draft picks >>>>>> ours in this game.

Makes you wonder whether it could be more of a development issue. But then again, TRob and Jimmer aren't exactly tearing the league up elsewhere.

Really sad about this team....I think it's very difficult to build around a center like Demarcus Cousins this day and age. Hopefully Karl can do something..

Robinson scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in 15 minutes today (none of them in garbage time).

I think the difference between Vitor/Payton (aside from being more talented) and Ben/Nik is they have a pit-bull like mentality where as Nik and Ben are just soft. You can outplay Vitor and Payton but they will still believe in themselves and play there game where as Nik and Ben they just crap the bed and give up and ultimately lose all there confident s.

It shouldn't be. Get some shooters, get a PG who can find him when he's in his spots. We already have a number two guy in Gay.

Our FO is just stubborn and dumb. They want hip, exciting, pace basketball. To Vivek, it's cutting edge....therefore, it's superior.

Put Cousins on The Spurs, I doubt they have trouble building around him.

Its the ****ing easiest thing to do in the entire league if you know what you are doing.

I could do it with my eyes closed.

Slow it down coach willing to turn every game into a war inside.
Rugged defensive PF
#2 weapon at either SG or SF
fill the rest of the roster who shooters and scrappers

Bingo. Wow, I feel like such a genius, or possibly just such a guy who has watched 30 years of NBA basketball. Too bad we don't seem to have many of those running our particular popsicle stand.

How the hell do you give up 119 to a team that won't win 30 games is is missing there best player and best bench player. You score 114 you should win that game 8 of 10 times

How is it difficult to surround a 24-12 center who plays defense with shooters/defenders. Mike ****ing Malone knew that you play half court when that's your best player. Don't blame Cousins cause we have the worst owner in sports and wants 113-119 games.

Yes as of right now "oops" indeed.

Not blaming Cuz for anything lol. I just think its difficult to build around a big man in a game taken over by guards.

This times 100.

Is it really that hard? The leagues been doing in for decades. We haven't even tried it once during cousins career. Baffling.

I'm not sure you could try any harder to f up a talent like his.

You need a hybrid PF. Someone who can block shots and protect the rim on defense, while shoot 3's on offense. Spacing has always been a problem because JTs always hovers around the paint. We need a non ball dominant SG nor SF because we need a star PG to keep with the rest of the league. Someone who can set up Cuz for easy shots and score. Having 3 ball dominant players in your starting lineup is terrible considering how high of a usage player Cuz is.

So you need to somehow trade for Ibaka or draft Towns or Turner
Then substitute Ben for Wesley Matthews or Danny Green
And trade Rudy Gay for Chandler Parsons
Then trade Collison for Jrue Holiday

I think the NBA has become a guard driven league. It is much easier to build around a PG than it is to build around a Center. It's harder to build around the strengths and negatives of a center than it is to build around a point guard. Not to mention our very limited assets to actually acquire new talent and upgrade the roster. Hope Karl can create a team that compliments Cuz....need Pete to do his GM magic though.

I agree with you in the sense that I think the league itself has become such that it's difficult to build around Cuz. It's not Cousins' fault, more along the lines of the refs let bigs like Cuz get whacked without calling too many fouls while you can't breathe on a guy like Harden. The way the game is called big guys like Cousins who just muscle their way through are at a disadvantage compared to the athletic high jumping bigs.
